Thanks MM for the video! ❤ Anyone who is interested, let me quickly highlight how this synth is unique or interesting IMO: - the LFOs, apart from the usual shapes, come with complex custom shapes (the "+" symbol above the waveform button) - in the dual VCOs there is a wavemix feature where you can set the balance of levels between pulse and triangle / saw (/which you can also mix freely!) - you can program a lot of generative behavior into the sequencer with gate, velocity and note chance / probability for more unpredictability - there's dual timbre addressing in the sequencer so it can play both timbres at once or only chosen notes for timbre A and B (which makes it more fun!) - in the mod matrix you can use functions to change the well-known shapes of sine, square LFOs into uniquely new ones, or create custom curves for envelopes / aftertouch response, etc. - the mixer allows for a clean mix of all analog sources but you can also use the overload slider to overdrive the signal like the classic Moog CP-3 mixer does - the delay works like vintage digital rack units in that it's highly configurable and can provide stereo delays with ping pong behavior, filtered multi-tap tape echo-style delays, or reverb + dreamy chorused-diffusion trails. Generally it's a sonic playground for time-based effects. Thank you Moog!!!
Mate, thanks for stopping by and big respect to you!! And thanks for highlighting this (I am glad to say I actually touch on nearly everything you mentioned in this vid!!) - My favourite other non obvious 'trick' is that you can created a magic 'RND Trig' in the Mod Map and map it to things, so that you can make the sound vary on a per step basis, without using up any LFOs at all. I show this at 25:09 x
@@mylarmelodies Yep! There are 16 instances per timbre, and as you say they operate per note, so it can get random as hell;) (actually I've been involved with Moog on this, made some of the Muse factory presets) cheers!

More I watch this, the more bits of Moog One I see in it, the mod matrix with the functions, the destination and more buttons, the VCOs are almost a dead ringer with the SAW/TRI SQ mixer but is some ways its goes beyond the One. I have a Moog One and the biggest issue i find with it is the FM is very weak being linear only and really rather restricted, the Muse seems to do it much better. The filters are similar but in the One filter 1 is a state variable and non resonant but here both are and filter one can be HP so you can get band pass by combining them. I must admit that it seem to have more presence in the basic sounds, you have to do a fair bit of fiddling around to get the One to sound more ballsy but it has many more options, VCOs, LFOs, Envelopes, polyphony, tri-timbral. I'm just wondering how long the Trigon 6 module I just bought might stay around before its replaced by a muse to get that ballsy Moog sound with many of the features that the Moog One introduced.

As a long-time fan of classic synthesizers, I've been keeping up with all the new releases over the past two decades. After spending hours watching demonstrations of the Moog Muse, I have to say they've really hit the mark! It's incredibly versatile, with sounds reminiscent of the 70s, the ability to emulate a CS-80, and metallic tones similar to a DX. The level of control it offers, combined with what I believe is the most amazing arpeggiator/sequencer, makes it incredibly creative and inspiring.
Great great demo, thank you! People have been saying: same old same old, and that any Hydrasynth can do the same and more. Well, let's leave aside the hearing capacities of these people, but if you think about it, Moog have done an ingenious job of bringing their heritage to 2024. They have built on the glory of what we love in a Moog, the sound foundation, you might say, and then they have vastly broadened the spectrum by the modulation and those hyper-modern capabilities of Arp and Seq. The only area where the Muse really falls very short, is controllabilty. Being able to overdrive the mixer is good, so long as it doesn’t overdrive too easily/before you want it to … that was why a successor to the og Sub37 was made, as I understand it: to correct (or, at least, alleviate) that problem …
Your demos of gear are unlike nearly all others because you always focus on SOUND most of all. And thats why I watch your videos and not the others. Its all about SOUND!
I wish the Muse was a 16 voice for that price but for the ever good Moog ladder filters and also main highlight for me, the variable LFO they have added in(although i do have Moog Model 10, i like to get a key playing oriented synth in Moog too) cause I'm mostly into jazz improv, i enjoy both my Rev 2 and new Ub-Xa for that for adding embellishments to my tracks along with my recorded piano melodies and percussion loops. But still i want to get this for posterity sakes cause why tf not?!
Awesome video man. Quick question. Can you play against the sequencer? Like while the sequencer is playing can you play chords or base lines over it? Or will it automatically transpose it like on the grandmother?
I've been struggling with some decisions... selling my PolyBrute 6 and buy the PolyBrute 12 or save some money and buy the Peak, but now this shows up and I'll probably thin out the herd and let the bugs show up in the Muse before I throw my money at Moog. I own 6 of their synths already, but all mono.. I love many things about this including this sequencer 🤯🎹💖
I was just thinking about sending my Moog Voyager in for repair a couple days ago - makes an annoying static sound on some patches - but wowza maybe I need to get this instead - would be much easier than shipping something back to Moog for repair!
why couldnt they make one of those multi-fader sections a little murf style bandpass filterbank? wouldnt that be the coolest thing to have on an analog poly, aside from all the cool fm stuff and complex modulation
I waited until the demos of the muse came out today to help me make a purchase decision and the thing that never got addressed is wether or not the muse can globally if needed sync both modulation and sequencing to external devices ( drum machines ,computer, etc ) extremely accurately and in that mode offer intervals and other time based functionality ? Because no one seems to know I bought a new Waldorf quantum which does do that . These demos should always have a section for exploration of a devices SYNC to clock super powers . Many synths in this category fall short of the frame accurate benchmark that both film music and modern pop music demands . So is this one of those ? 🤔👽✌️
Hey Christo!! Yes it can. You can sync Arp, Seq and LFOs to external clocks. You can also choose interesting time bases for each (straight/dotted/trip etc) so the time divisions in the dial are constrained to the flavour of timing you want. If you buy one please feel free to use my affiliate links in the description!! ✌️👽
@@t55a2 I don’t think so because it’s very versatile and I have a matriarch and a grandmother that are very reliable but if they did a new mono synth with the clock sync ability and the oscillator section with wavetables as well with semi modular abilities and a touch pad for xy modulation I would be very interested. They need a real hot rod aggressive synth in their line to fill in the mini Moog gap in my humble opinion. A real meat and potatoes synth everybody has room for .👽✌️
lol I was just watching his video before this thinking that as well, he’s such a legendary player. Nice to hear things from a more sound design perspective
Okay okay okay. Here’s a question: would you be okay with this being your ONLY polysynth? I’m trying to make my mind up between buying this, the Super 6 or TEO-5. Don’t know or if I’ll ever buy a polysynth again, so I need it to be the most versatile. I know they all sound different etc, but which one is the most “workhorse” to you?
There's absolutely no accounting for taste is the thing - hence some people react to this video going "sounds great" as well as "not for me". If we're talking about specifically myself, I'm a sucker for Roland filters, so I'd definitely want MY only poly to have that sort of vibe to it. Don't forget about PolyBrute too of course. Depends entirely on: 1. The tone that speaks to you on a lizard brain level 2. What interface/design appeals to you 3. What specific features you might feel you need Everyone is different!!
I want to know please, why the 24VCOS in Unison Mode and Detuned don't sound so "vintage" as expected. Is there anything you can do there to make the Muse sound fat and warm and mind blowing when in Unison? Thanks
Seems incredible but also less versatile range of sound than I would expect given the features, I suppose it truly has the moog character encrusted through it which is what people want from a moog I would assume.. Maybe the ultimate synth for funk.
@@screenwhirlpool Didn't have a tuner to hand to fine tune the ranges/amounts but you can absolutely map KB to LFO freq, then LFO freq to other things and get warm and also fizzy FM, but I wouldn't expect mega broad precisely tuned DX7 thru zero FM results with that, better to use crossmod!
@@mylarmelodies too bad! I’ve never done a head to head sound comparison with a similar filter that has that feature. On the Rossum Evolution it’s not automatic (there’s a separate knob) so maybe there’s an inherent trade off. Edit: great review btw. I’ve been hooked ever since you reviewed the 0-coast!
Thanks for sharing this excellent video, where you let the Muse SING indeed! ;) Our wild guess: It definitely gives off a lot of Prophet-6 vibes in terms of usability. Like the Prophet-6, which was designed to be a successor to the P5, this instrument seems to aim for the same goal, but perhaps even better or in a unique way. While the Moog One is a sound designer's dream, it can be a bit more complicated and overwhelming and where the Matriarch sounds incredible too, it doesn't save patches. This synth seems to have solved these problems. After working with it for a month, you'll likely feel right at home, like it fits as comfortably as your favorite jacket. We could be utterly wrong ofcourse... Would you agree?
I own a Moog Sub 37 and want to purchase a polyphonic synth. I was ready to buy the Prophet 6 or Trigon and just saw this new synth. Does anyone have any opinions as to which synth you would purchase as they are all very close in price. I am guitarist and NOT a keyboard player. Synth would be used for producing EDM and also for keyboard players when they come to my home studio. The cool thing is I play midi guitar and can control both hardware and software synths with my guitar. Love to hear what fellow musicians think about this synth versus the Sequential synths. Of course I realize each is unique and have their own unique sound and workflow. I was also considering the Arturia 12 voice PolyBrute. Thanks for any advice🙏
Personally, I own a prophet 5, but that is a very niche purchase. Between the prophet 6, the trigon 6, and the Muse, I would definitely go with the Muse…

@@director2bob in the synth world, vintage synths (or faithful reissues like the 2022 Moog Minimoog) occupy a particular niche, much like a 1959 Gibson Les Paul might function in the guitar world. Being able to overdrive the mixer is good, so long as it doesn’t overdrive too easily/before you want it to … that was why a successor to the og Sub37 was made, as I understand it: to correct (or, at least, alleviate) that problem …
It doesn’t!
your laughs make me laugh!
Your demos of gear are unlike nearly all others because you always focus on SOUND most of all. And thats why I watch your videos and not the others. Its all about SOUND!
Only thing is function is important too.... Otherwise, you never realize the sound. Well maybe by accident. 🤷🏾♂️
Damn man. It sounds really good.
If you think you've missed out on some vintage synths ,
Don't cry.
This will do, and top it as well.
Sounds like it could be the ultimate Avant Garde synth.🤯Very nice, added to our wishlist.😀
I've been told the sliders feel fragile. is that true?
What a glorious demo. When the aliens arrive, I vote we send Mylar and this synth to greet them at Devil’s Tower.
I wish I could do a Matrix download of Mylar's analog synth brain knowledge. To play with such skill and confidence ❤
big BIG Underworld vibes I’m sold!!
great vid as usual - you made the Muse sing and growl 🙂
Awesome video man. Quick question. Can you play against the sequencer? Like while the sequencer is playing can you play chords or base lines over it? Or will it automatically transpose it like on the grandmother?
you can! I do this a bit in the sequencer section as I’m planning what to record next
4:34 As well as pulse width modulation for Nick 😂😂😂
Ooookay you had me at that unison bass. 😱 🤩 🙌
Wow, Wow, Wow, I can probably never afford it but I love it!
Deepimind did baking chords into keys quite a few years ago 😉
It's a new...Moopiter 8!
It’s so Moopiter!!
Sounds different, jp8 more clear and nicer tone
7:25 🤤
Super clean 3 osc pads!!!!
Maravilhoso instrument , beautful sound 😢
Fantastic Alex! Thx m8!
I love many things about this including this sequencer 🤯🎹💖
sounds great in this vid; in other vids it sounded sterile
Exactly my thoughts.
I was waiting for a friend to show this new beauty, and you're perfect for that matter. Even "FM" sounds like "MF" when it's you!
Mezzoforte, Muzzafokka!
I was just thinking about sending my Moog Voyager in for repair a couple days ago - makes an annoying static sound on some patches - but wowza maybe I need to get this instead - would be much easier than shipping something back to Moog for repair!
voyager rme is more valuable atm...
Does it have an internal slot to add 8 more voices?
52:16 I'm glad folks are finally realizing none of actually play keys, we just love the sounds 😂 (I kid, I kid...or do i?)
Sequencers and arpeggiators exist for a reason!
why couldnt they make one of those multi-fader sections a little murf style bandpass filterbank? wouldnt that be the coolest thing to have on an analog poly, aside from all the cool fm stuff and complex modulation
I would have loved a resonator on this
I waited until the demos of the muse came out today to help me make a purchase decision and the thing that never got addressed is wether or not the muse can globally if needed sync both modulation and sequencing to external devices ( drum machines ,computer, etc ) extremely accurately and in that mode offer intervals and other time based functionality ?
So, are you going to return your Quantum, for the Muse?
@@t55a2 I don’t think so because it’s very versatile and I have a matriarch and a grandmother that are very reliable but if they did a new mono synth with the clock sync ability and the oscillator section with wavetables as well with semi modular abilities and a touch pad for xy modulation I would be very interested. They need a real hot rod aggressive synth in their line to fill in the mini Moog gap in my humble opinion. A real meat and potatoes synth everybody has room for .👽✌️
@@christoroppolo8742 I think that sounds a terrible idea, tbf
@@christoroppolo8742 You could do that with modular stuff and save money, even more if you make the modules from kits
First impression is giving me Jupiter vibes, but like a fatter fuller Jupiter. Pretty cool
This is my favorite review. I just wanted to know how good it sounds when you don't play like Matt.
LOL…Matt reviewing things skews the results upwards on every synth.
@@entropybentwhistle exactly everything he plays sounds amazing I need to know if single notes sustained, bleeps and boops sound good on it also.
lol I was just watching his video before this thinking that as well, he’s such a legendary player. Nice to hear things from a more sound design perspective
Sounds much like vintage moog in terms of transparency and brightness, wonderful synth !
Depends entirely on:
1. The tone that speaks to you on a lizard brain level
2. What interface/design appeals to you
3. What specific features you might feel you need
Everyone is different!!
I want to know please, why the 24VCOS in Unison Mode and Detuned don't sound so "vintage" as expected. Is there anything you can do there to make the Muse sound fat and warm and mind blowing when in Unison? Thanks
Cool story
Seems incredible but also less versatile range of sound than I would expect given the features, I suppose it truly has the moog character encrusted through it which is what people want from a moog I would assume.. Maybe the ultimate synth for funk.
Change your name to mymusemelodies!!!
You hit it out of the park, thank you so much.
@mylarmelodies can the LFO's do audio rate FM/keytracking?
Yes, they go up to 1khz and yes you can absolutely map KB to them! Wish I’d tried that now
@@mylarmelodies if you keytrack them do they pitch chromatically?
@@screenwhirlpool Didn't have a tuner to hand to fine tune the ranges/amounts but you can absolutely map KB to LFO freq, then LFO freq to other things and get warm and also fizzy FM, but I wouldn't expect mega broad precisely tuned DX7 thru zero FM results with that, better to use crossmod!
Yes I want one. Yes.
Are the ladder filters volume-compensated when you turn up the resonance?
Edit: just searched the manual couldn’t find anything.
Nope, they lose bass as on other classic Moogz!
@@mylarmelodies too bad! I’ve never done a head to head sound comparison with a similar filter that has that feature. On the Rossum Evolution it’s not automatic (there’s a separate knob) so maybe there’s an inherent trade off.
Edit: great review btw. I’ve been hooked ever since you reviewed the 0-coast!
fwiw remember you could set up the Macro knob to actually do volume compensation by adding drive while increasing resonance. need to try that
I'm hearing sounds that I can't create with my current pile of synths. That's never a good thing for my bank account.
Are the bugs fixed yet?
LOL at 26:00 "Every time I push a key" .. I was fully expecting the rest !
🤖
Well done!
Thanks for sharing this excellent video, where you let the Muse SING indeed! ;)
Our wild guess:
It definitely gives off a lot of Prophet-6 vibes in terms of usability.
Would you agree?
what a BEAST
I purchased Muse today.
Personally, I own a prophet 5, but that is a very niche purchase. Between the prophet 6, the trigon 6, and the Muse, I would definitely go with the Muse…
@@jibberish00 I was hoping you would recommend the Muse. I LOVE Moog gear and am going for the MUSE. Just out of curiosity what specific niche are you referring to regarding the Prophet 5? Thanks for the reply.🤘
@@valeriytroshin awesome bro. Enjoy the new synth. I am happy for you. Life is too short not to have a few professional pieces of gear that will NEVER become obsolete. Just out of curiosity if the MUSE didn't just drop what other synth were you considering? What other synths do you own? Rock on brotherman 🤘
@@director2bob in the synth world, vintage synths (or faithful reissues like the 2022 Moog Minimoog) occupy a particular niche, much like a 1959 Gibson Les Paul might function in the guitar world. These are expensive and limited in terms capability, but they offer tone and character that you don’t find elsewhere. I have a Prophet 5 because I love the sound and nothing else sounds quite like it. It’s not necessarily practical for a guitarist who just wants a capable studio tool though.

for me the sound feel thin and cold. arpeggiator is good and preset are useful but the sound have not the matriarch deep.
Wow I didn't know Russel Brand was so good at synths!
They need to finish the effects section
What do you mean?
@BullyMaguire4ever synths benefit from effects. Having 1 digital effect is not enough. Even worse I tried the muse in a store with headphones. That 1 digital effect is not very good and is actually very noisy.
Each time I watch a demo of yours, I end up spending $. I need to go offline :p
Dammit, Alex. All the other encyclopedic reviews left me feeling MEH. Your ever-contagious enthusiasm and approach to start simple and end sick...damn. DAMN. Fantastic overview, sounds great, and good job, mate!
Thanks m8, glad this approach hit the mark!!
Seriously considering selling an OB6 and Rev2 for this.... like SERIOUSSSLY
Oh my god!!! a vision in my dream has entered reality!!! If only I was not poor, damn it
omg why does it sound so good!!!! G A S. . .
YEAH, YEAH, YEAH ............... But, where is the full Intellijel Atlantix video??!! 😀 Now I want a Moog Muse as well as the (previously videoed, post Atlantix teaser video) Moog Labyrinth. EDIT, or not! Just seen the price of the Muse here in Aus - just shy of $7,000!! Do I think it's worth it? - YES. Can I afford it? - NO. Am I going to get one anyway? - I wouldn't mind a bet!! 😀
Atlantix next!! 🙌 (Also there is technically some in here!)
@@mylarmelodies Cool, cool. Still waiting on mine. They seem to be taking forever to reach these shores, here in Aus. Captain Cook got to Australia faster than the Intellijel Atlantix modules have!! 😕
