My best round this year was an 85 and my worst was a 100. Not trying to make excuses but on my worst round there were insane winds that would push around my ball like a piece of paper, but you can’t dial in the weather now can you.

I’m enjoying it and the process of improving. Your vids are helpful. I’ve noticed that here, people don’t play when it’s a steady rain. I had the whole course to myself yesterday. It was great! All it takes is some waterproofs and the Footjoy rain gloves.
Where are you based? I can handle wind, or rain, but both together isn't much fun! I played in Scotland a few years ago and spent half the round chasing after my umbrella!
Getting back into golf after a hiatus. Was pretty good in my youth by got the yips with chipping/pitching after college....had to hang it up. Trying to reinvent , rediscover my game. One frustration was using old 1974 Ben Hogan clubs (missed 6-iron would barely get by 125 yards). Upgraded equipment, that has helped with the fun, a bit. 89 (+17) with a couple “do overs” in April with the old clubs. 81 (+11) most recent outing. (Some stellar shots, some atrocious ones - from hole to hole. Lots of variation in the swing!!) In the interim, i did take a couple of short game lessons . And attend, almost weekly, a clinic at the local driving range. ...Still in the process of trying to eliminate my downswing slide (actually trying to swing “over the top” to correct it). (Not sure I’ll play this weekend since I’m hitting it left off target by 60 yards !!)
Hcp 12. Best 78 worst 95. Lots of lots of rounds in the 80's but don't seem to be able to put together two 9's in the 30's on the same day consistently.

I don't have a handicap, not sure what it would be to be honest. I was advised not to keep round score, but to play each hole as it's own and each shot within a hole as it's own. There's no quicker way to get discouraged than to not make progress. Before my knee surgery, I focused on getting up and down / seperated that from approach shots / I was learning to think course strategy from the tee at that point. Breaking a round down to those aspects helps to quickly improve. I always practiced before a round and afterwards when at all possible. I'd say the number one reason we're so bad at golf is because the courses we play on are very awful most often than not. Small greens, unkept bunkers & fairways. The average pro plays on a course that has almost 15 acers to a single hole the average 18 hole club course has 5-6 Acres dedicated to a single hole. You have to get good before you can get better, so many current day pros flyon to the scene with a bang, that's because they all of a sudden are surrounded by better, but they weren't always a pro, they were just good enough then they could afford to get better. In the end one word. Commitment.

You asked how many rounds. About 65 per year. I attribute consistency to meditation. I practice meditation daily and do not allow a bad shot or crazy competitor (there are some out there) to ruin a round. Spent the winter working on my fitness (2 boot camp classes, one cardio combat, one total body workout class and one yoga class per week, all classes one hour in duration) and am looking forward to testing a much stronger body on the course. Golf simulator showing a few more MPH ball speed and carry distance. Endurance should also be improved so will I be deeper in the woods or lower in handicap? I will let you know. Still lots of snow here so I will give you a SITREP in May.
I've tried meditation using the Headspace app but didn't manage to make it a daily habit. Do you use anything to guide your meditation or just do it yourself? I'm sure your effort will pay off over the course of the season!

Best 75- Worst 89 - Hcap 5. The handicap system does not really help with mind-set here i think. Handicap gives an indication of what your ‘average-best’ score should be so i often find myself irritated that not hitting these scores. Not really sure why handicap shouldn’t just be average. Would be good to know why and perhaps a system should have both - a handicap for tournament play and then average for generally gauging progress
Over my golf career I've been all over the place from sub 10 hcp shooting as low as - 2 and scratch a few times to only playing a couple times a year and struggling to stay in the 90s. During that period I seriously considered selling my sticks and never playing again because it was so frustrating playing that poorly compared to how I use to play. This past year I really made a go and trying to get back to where I was in my early 20s and play 2 to 3 times a week. So far this year my lowest round was a 77 where I'm averaging typically 10 over a round. With almost playing for 23 years I can honestly say that I think golf is the most unforgiving sport if you don't give it attention.

Handicap 8. Best round 77. Worst round 85. Was 1-over through 15 on Tuesday evening but ran out of light! As a point of interest, the 85 featured a front nine of 35 and a back nine of 50 - especially poignant since we're discussing consistency!
Hcp 32.5 (but it's an EGA hdc, so with slope rating for our course I play off 37) best round was 104, worst round something like 125 ... I stopped keeping count eventually, because I was frustrated so much and it was only a private knock anyway.
Low 81, high 97 (ouch...totally quit on myself). Hcp 13 on par 72 course, slope avg 122. Best round ever on this course 74 (we have 27 holes). Shot 4 rounds in the 70s last year. My swing is in transition.
I recently subscribed you your channel, liking the no frills honest golf tips so far. My best round this year, so far, 89 on a par 71. I play off 23 hcp. Worst round, 106. Recently only played 9 holes for the last few weeks, shooting 41-43 on the front 9, which is par 36. I totally agree with your thoughts here, if golf was easy, it would be boring! It´s that perfectly stuck tee shot that goes 300 yards, or the big draw around the trees into the green that we didn´t think we could hit but did, that keeps us coming back.
Hcp 6 right now. Lowest round (with other people) is 76 and highest was 89 in really windy conditions. Usually score around 78-82 though. Started last summer at 17hcp after a 6 year break and took it down to 7 going in to this year. So gone down a bit this year as well, haven't played too many rounds with other people so haven't been able to take it down that much though. Great videos anyway! Thanks for sharing your journey. Well i stopped playing at 12-13 and started again at 19. So first of all I picked up like, no joke like 150 meters+ with the woods, and where I used to hit 3wood i can now comfortably hit like 8-9 iron. (I was a small kid). I've also been playing alot of squash (and still am) through my teens which I think has given me better timing lots of touch with the shortgame.
handicap 9. down from 12. worst round 88, best round 73. home course par 67. have to add i shot a scratch 85 on the championship course at carnoustie off the front tees and a scratch 76 on the budden course at carnoustie. off the back tees.

Play off 25 starting playing in may, last card was 88 2 weeks ago with 2 blanks but could of been better as chipping and putting was bad, worst was 110 when was first getting handicap
I think one reason for inconsistency is our overconfidence or lack of confidence. When we're swinging well, we become confident. We become certain we can fit the driver in the tight fairway. Or fire at the pin tucked behind the bunker. That worked out on Monday because we were swinging so well. But then on Tuesday we come out with the same approach and we're not quite swinging as well. The driver goes into the trees and bounces OB and the shot at the pin hits the hill on the side of the green and rockets into the deep grass. A terrible score results. Similarly, when we're not confident, we take the 5-wood off the tee on that tight hole, and rather than going at the pin we aim for the front left of the green so we can at worst, chip on and have a putt at par. That conservative play brings us back to a pretty good score. Not as good as when we could do nothing wrong, but respectable. Then the cycle repeats.
Best round 94; worst round 115; 23 handicap. I didn’t play golf for 17 years until I started playing again last November. I didn’t start playing golf until I was 22. Never took lessons and only played maybe 5 rounds per year. I was terrible and never broke 110. Gave up golf completely for 17 years but started playing again 3 months ago. I caught the bug and I’ve been practicing at least 10 hours per week, doing drills watching tons of TH-cam instructional videos, and playing an average of 1 round per week since November. Started taking lessons 2 weeks ago. My first time out in November, I shot a 116 but consistently got better little by little and started breaking 100 consistently in December and early January, but my last 2 rounds in the past 2 weeks, I shot a 111 and a 112. I feel like I wasted 3 months and haven’t improved my game at all, despite practicing religiously, doing drills for 10 hours a week, and playing at least 1 round of golf per week. My biggest problem is that I hit the ball well at the range and in drills, but choke and fall apart out on the course. Today I shot a 112. I shot a 74 on 14 holes (21 over par, but on 3 of the par 5’s and the par 4 18th, I had 3 10’s and an 8 for a total of 38 strokes (19 over par) on just 4 holes. I absolutely love this game and I absolutely hate this game!
I’m a 16 year old with a 10 handicap, best round this season was a +6 77 and my worst was a +31 102, that 77 was one of only a few good rounds this season unfortunately. Inconsistency is my worst trait, thankfully that was my only 100+ round this season
Hi... Can u maby make a video on how to hit longirons, hybrids and woods better. I have asked my coach and he says its the same swing... I find short irons is much more esay to hit than long clubs ( like my PW and 9 iron are so consistant i can put it 5 feet away my long irons i can get up from 150 yards with a 7? Eny tips
Short irons will always be easier to hit because they're shorter. Get your coach to have a look at your hitting clubs you struggle with and see what he says - likely to be more helpful than me giving you generic tips!

Just started this year, don't have a handicap I was in the 130s maybe more when I first started(didn't always keep score or know the rules haha)...best round was 98 so far.
Best round of the year was 80. Worst was 87. 40+ rounds which is the most I've ever played in a single season. Most consistent weekend duffer around...lol. My key to consistency is course management, something my friends I play with aren't good at. I'm a very safe player. On the more risky tee shots I'd rather hit from the fairway at 150 than take a chance on hitting from an unknown lie in the rough or behind a tree at 110. I might take a 5 on a par 4 even with a perfectly straight drive up the middle but short, but I won't be taking a 6 or 7. In fact, I found a 14 degree driver last year that I cut down 2" shorter than my regular driver and I use it as my "safe" driver. Almost never miss the fairway and it's the easiest club in the bag to hit. On the approach I'd rather miss left and be in the grass than for the pin that's right centre but with a huge deep bunker 15 feet to the right of the pin. If there's lots of room I"ll shoot straight at the pin, but if it's in tight I rarely go for the hero shot. My friend's think it's pretty humourous sometimes but it works. The other key for me is the short game. I practice chipping and putting more than full shots. I have a good course to practice on and practice on all kinds of lies and all kinds of shots. Most of my buddies only hit the range and then a few chips and putts and they're done and their short games are hit and miss. They usually fall apart under pressure.
Good video. I wonder if there are tour players who are more consistent than the top players but their best rounds aren't as good so they don't tend to win tournaments but plod along making a lot of cuts
I don't think anyone has ever matched Tiger's scoring average. In fact his average in his best ever seasons was almost a full shot lower than anyone else's. I guess people like Kuchar are very steady, racking up loads of top-10s etc.

This is a great post you have done every one has their very bad days and you gave a great example of the best players in the world, but heres the kicker those who can take sides of golf courses will be more consistent like just imagine you go and step up to any golf course, its different, if you know what your ball will do once hit your percentage is high for example take dustin or DJ why has he stepped up to the plate he aims left and smacks a fade and takes the left out of play, you can take the right out of play depending on your shot shape, what i see is Handicappers just sort of tee it up and try to hit strait some can do it but as a percentage day one will be different and and day 2 will be different. the first and second shot in golf are very important. Been playing around 2 years, haven't kept a cap, best round was an 89, worst was a score that wasn't kept and was considered a "practice" round, but if guessing, I'd say 125ish. I do feel like I'm starting to get an idea of a semi competent game, but we'll see what 2018 brings.
Scratch Golf love the game, will probably be playing for the rest of my days, had one lesson early on, but for the most part, self taught and TH-cam taught. I don't ever expect to be amazing, just to learn gradually and enjoy the game with family and friends. Golf has been an amazing tool for me to make some significant life changes, and for that alone, I'm happy. Thanks for the reply, kind of you.

I hope not! Only had 3 rounds with that handicap. Hoping to get down to 10 pretty quickly, as we use the US style (best 8 of the last 20) and I've only got 6 rounds in my history (the 77 didn't count 'coz "bisque par" wasn't handicapped). First actual lesson on Tuesday :)
I started playing golf in the beginning of 2017 with a round of 110, finished the year with a best round of 82. So far in 2018 I have played 3 times - best 86, worst 106...and although it was a 106, there were a lot of positives - scrambled really well, putting was very good. The round before was a 95, one of my best rounds with the driver, I hit 10 out of 16 fairways...and yet...it was a 95. To be honest looking back at my best round 82, it was nothing special in any area, just ok-ish. If I could pick the best parts of my game in any given day I am sure that I would have broken 80 by now...lol.
About as consistent as tour pro then! And yeah, conditions will play a big part. Amazes me when people expect to shoot the same score as normal when it's blowing a gale and/or chucking it down!
pedro gonzales A lot! I have no proof of this whatsoever but I reckon the majority of people who get to scratch do it when they're young. You have lots of spare time - school holidays playing golf all day every day etc. You don't hear of many high or even mid-handicappers suddenly getting good enough to reach scratch!

phil mickelson won a golf tournament were he made from inside 7 foot 48 for 48 putting, if he missed just 5 of them he would not have finished inside the top 10, I would make 24 at best, out of 48 from 7 foot and in under pressure

16 handicap - best was 80 (did it twice) worst was 97 at the start of the season but just last week i shot a 93

13 handicap 80 and 98. Played for years, still go out and hit it like a beginner, or a single figure player. Nothing in between.
For nine holes: 39 to 55. For eighteen holes: 94 to 104. Unofficial handicap of around 18, last handicap was 12.

Now that this video is 5 months old. I am a 8.4 handicap and my best round was 4 over 76 with my worst being a 96 on the same course

Play off 25 starting playing in may, last card was 88 2 weeks ago with 2 blanks but could of been better as chipping and putting was bad, worst was 110 when was first getting handicap

I think one reason for inconsistency is our overconfidence or lack of confidence. When we're swinging well, we become confident. We become certain we can fit the driver in the tight fairway. Or fire at the pin tucked behind the bunker. That worked out on Monday because we were swinging so well. But then on Tuesday we come out with the same approach and we're not quite swinging as well. The driver goes into the trees and bounces OB and the shot at the pin hits the hill on the side of the green and rockets into the deep grass. A terrible score results.
Similarly, when we're not confident, we take the 5-wood off the tee on that tight hole, and rather than going at the pin we aim for the front left of the green so we can at worst, chip on and have a putt at par. That conservative play brings us back to a pretty good score. Not as good as when we could do nothing wrong, but respectable. Then the cycle repeats.
Best round 94; worst round 115; 23 handicap. I didn’t play golf for 17 years until I started playing again last November. I didn’t start playing golf until I was 22. Never took lessons and only played maybe 5 rounds per year. I was terrible and never broke 110. Gave up golf completely for 17 years but started playing again 3 months ago. I caught the bug and I’ve been practicing at least 10 hours per week, doing drills watching tons of TH-cam instructional videos, and playing an average of 1 round per week since November. Started taking lessons 2 weeks ago. My first time out in November, I shot a 116 but consistently got better little by little and started breaking 100 consistently in December and early January, but my last 2 rounds in the past 2 weeks, I shot a 111 and a 112. I feel like I wasted 3 months and haven’t improved my game at all, despite practicing religiously, doing drills for 10 hours a week, and playing at least 1 round of golf per week. My biggest problem is that I hit the ball well at the range and in drills, but choke and fall apart out on the course. Today I shot a 112. I shot a 74 on 14 holes (21 over par, but on 3 of the par 5’s and the par 4 18th, I had 3 10’s and an 8 for a total of 38 strokes (19 over par) on just 4 holes. I absolutely love this game and I absolutely hate this game!

I’m a 16 year old with a 10 handicap, best round this season was a +6 77 and my worst was a +31 102, that 77 was one of only a few good rounds this season unfortunately. Inconsistency is my worst trait, thankfully that was my only 100+ round this season

Hi... Can u maby make a video on how to hit longirons, hybrids and woods better. I have asked my coach and he says its the same swing... I find short irons is much more esay to hit than long clubs ( like my PW and 9 iron are so consistant i can put it 5 feet away my long irons i can get up from 150 yards with a 7? Eny tips
Short irons will always be easier to hit because they're shorter. Get your coach to have a look at your hitting clubs you struggle with and see what he says - likely to be more helpful than me giving you generic tips!

Thanks for the video. I'm a 18.4 an dropping. Yesterday played 91 and happy. today was a chit show and could not hit an iron to save my life. Makes me want to quit... but that won't happen. Glad to hear it's not just me.
play to 24 but who knows. 95 best round so far this year but hoping for much better come this friday! Shot at 42 for 9 holes the other day. And please keep up with the videos because I think they're great!

Handicap 5.2 lowest tournament round 73 (par 70). Worst 98 (I could barely walk though, screwed up my back)
Don't carry an official handicap, but my best round this year was an 84, worst round was 105. Par 72 course. Average round would be around 90- 94
handicap is 14 best round is 8 over worst round is probaly about 98

OK. Am playing off a 14 and best round is a 81 (11 over) and worst round is 89 (19over par). Have played only 10 rounds this year though.
28 101 (last week) 121 (1st round this year) played 8 rounds so far this year.
The question is wether between -9 and +9 from your average is inconsistent.

Just started this year, don't have a handicap I was in the 130s maybe more when I first started(didn't always keep score or know the rules haha)...best round was 98 so far.
That's good progress. I still remember the first time I broke 100 to this day! (Sorry for the slow reply, by the way.)
Best round of the year was 80. Worst was 87. 40+ rounds which is the most I've ever played in a single season. Most consistent weekend duffer around...lol. My key to consistency is course management, something my friends I play with aren't good at. I'm a very safe player. On the more risky tee shots I'd rather hit from the fairway at 150 than take a chance on hitting from an unknown lie in the rough or behind a tree at 110. I might take a 5 on a par 4 even with a perfectly straight drive up the middle but short, but I won't be taking a 6 or 7. In fact, I found a 14 degree driver last year that I cut down 2" shorter than my regular driver and I use it as my "safe" driver. Almost never miss the fairway and it's the easiest club in the bag to hit. On the approach I'd rather miss left and be in the grass than for the pin that's right centre but with a huge deep bunker 15 feet to the right of the pin. If there's lots of room I"ll shoot straight at the pin, but if it's in tight I rarely go for the hero shot. My friend's think it's pretty humourous sometimes but it works.
The other key for me is the short game. I practice chipping and putting more than full shots. I have a good course to practice on and practice on all kinds of lies and all kinds of shots. Most of my buddies only hit the range and then a few chips and putts and they're done and their short games are hit and miss. They usually fall apart under pressure.
Good video. I wonder if there are tour players who are more consistent than the top players but their best rounds aren't as good so they don't tend to win tournaments but plod along making a lot of cuts
I don't think anyone has ever matched Tiger's scoring average. In fact his average in his best ever seasons was almost a full shot lower than anyone else's. I guess people like Kuchar are very steady, racking up loads of top-10s etc.

It's still only Feb, I've played once this year, I hit 107 shots for 28 points. My handicap is 26.
best round, -3 worst 83, play of 0, forgetting lessons and coaching and getting one side of the course out of play is the key.

This is a great post you have done every one has their very bad days and you gave a great example of the best players in the world, but heres the kicker those who can take sides of golf courses will be more consistent like just imagine you go and step up to any golf course, its different, if you know what your ball will do once hit your percentage is high for example take dustin or DJ why has he stepped up to the plate he aims left and smacks a fade and takes the left out of play, you can take the right out of play depending on your shot shape, what i see is Handicappers just sort of tee it up and try to hit strait some can do it but as a percentage day one will be different and and day 2 will be different. the first and second shot in golf are very important. Been playing around 2 years, haven't kept a cap, best round was an 89, worst was a score that wasn't kept and was considered a "practice" round, but if guessing, I'd say 125ish. I do feel like I'm starting to get an idea of a semi competent game, but we'll see what 2018 brings.

Scratch Golf love the game, will probably be playing for the rest of my days, had one lesson early on, but for the most part, self taught and TH-cam taught. I don't ever expect to be amazing, just to learn gradually and enjoy the game with family and friends. Golf has been an amazing tool for me to make some significant life changes, and for that alone, I'm happy. Thanks for the reply, kind of you.

I dont know what my handicap is but my first time playing shot a 171 best round was a 120 (started playing 6 months ago)

I hope not! Only had 3 rounds with that handicap. Hoping to get down to 10 pretty quickly, as we use the US style (best 8 of the last 20) and I've only got 6 rounds in my history (the 77 didn't count 'coz "bisque par" wasn't handicapped). First actual lesson on Tuesday :)

I started playing golf in the beginning of 2017 with a round of 110, finished the year with a best round of 82. So far in 2018 I have played 3 times - best 86, worst 106...and although it was a 106, there were a lot of positives - scrambled really well, putting was very good. The round before was a 95, one of my best rounds with the driver, I hit 10 out of 16 fairways...and yet...it was a 95. To be honest looking back at my best round 82, it was nothing special in any area, just ok-ish. If I could pick the best parts of my game in any given day I am sure that I would have broken 80 by now...lol.
Hadicap is around 10. My best round I shot was a 83. My worst is a 99
A 16-shot difference then? I'll take that!

About as consistent as tour pro then! And yeah, conditions will play a big part. Amazes me when people expect to shoot the same score as normal when it's blowing a gale and/or chucking it down!
19.6, 90, 112. Normally I’m mid 90s hopefully mid 80s by the end of this summer. Breaking 80 at some point would be awesome.

pedro gonzales A lot! I have no proof of this whatsoever but I reckon the majority of people who get to scratch do it when they're young. You have lots of spare time - school holidays playing golf all day every day etc. You don't hear of many high or even mid-handicappers suddenly getting good enough to reach scratch!

phil mickelson won a golf tournament were he made from inside 7 foot 48 for 48 putting, if he missed just 5 of them he would not have finished inside the top 10, I would make 24 at best, out of 48 from 7 foot and in under pressure
