Most people cant write their signature 10x in a row consistently.. good topic to define this concept besides a tight ball grouping.. impact, sequence & backswing position are good metric references but other, often mentioned indicators are: preshot routines (watch Tiger or Jason Day), ball position, strike point(s) on the clubface (i.e. Justin Thomas), swing tempo / rhythm & swing plane relative to club selection. But since every shot is "different" based of the course, conditions & shot calculation.. it is all relative.. Drive for show, putt for dough? Be pin high, putt to the high side, aim to center of green, use the bounce.. drills help but golf is a nuanced art or managment, feel & luck as well.. u can be off by an ounce or pressure or foot on landing and be in the water or in the hole.. half of the birdies i make on par 4s come from scrambling and most of the the last 6 eagles i made i dailed in but as Hogan put it, making a hole in one is luck, putting the ball within 3 feet of the cup is skill. I would like to find some sense of consistency that is my own or an amalgam of the great paradigms, but a good measure of consistency for me is shooting single digits, striving to be bogey free, averging 3 to 5 birdies a round.. golf is always a work in progress and depends what u want out of every round.. too many variables in a game of oppositrs where less is more, achieving excellence or competing on a field where people play by thier own rules is an exercise in futility.. but somehow the honing of our skills is addictive.. it is a journey toward self knowledge, exploration, understanding, excellence & mastery of the game..

Great stuff and so true. I'm retired military and when I served with a Special Forces group, one of the Special Forces guys said "Special Forces guys are nothing more than regular guys who do basics, extremely well." True in golf, true in life. I truly do not believe we need "special" equipment or training aids, just regularly grounded, everyday basics!

Good thought provoking video again Russell. In a nutshell you seem to be saying 'If you want to be consistent you have …..'Be Consistent'.

Thanks Russell. Love your channel. Been searching for answers since deciding to learn to play golf after 20 odd years of scratching around not knowing what I was doing. Never got better than 17 handicap. Your instruction is so easy to understand and after many hours in the backyard practising I am confident my next round after 2 months of not playing will be excellent . Gonna shoot a 75. .... Just not sure if it will be by the 14th or 15th hole. LOL

I had three misconceptions for over a decade...the flat lead wrist, hitting down on the ball/shaft lean and swinging in to out . I had a bad inside move and poor backswing and steep downswing. I had to do hyper slow 15 yd pitch shots to feel taking the club back on plane to trust being able to get back to the ball from being on plane and what felt like being miles outside on the takeaway. I sorted it in a weekend. Keep up the great content

Thank you Russell, yes I am guilty today at the range. I need to have my game plan in place or fundamentals before I step up to the plate other wise it s anything with small successes. I caught myself trying things in the middle of my swings....not good. Very appropriate timing for me and moral booster.

Hey Russell.... Since no one is using that chair back there, what are the odds of me bringing a six pack and just kicking back and taking notes for a few hours?

Fear is you can ingrain improper swing mechanics, without proper guidance

Swinging at the ball instead of just swinging the club 'the ball is just in the swings path'.
