Everything you said is true. Is humid all year round. The difference is during the winter there is no sun to compensate for the humidity. When is really bad, even your bed sheets feels like they are damped. yikes.

Lima is a beautiful city, there is traffic but a lot of times you can just walk everywhere that's common for the locals such as me. All though it's humid it's very beautiful and highlighted. In the summer time in Peru, it's lovely with nice sunshines and amazing sunsets.

si, pero los inviernos son los que "deprimen" más a uno, porque todo es gris, debido a la geografía de Lima, para un peruano/a incluso como yo, nunca me he acostumbrado a eso, imagínense para un extranjero que viene de zonas soleadas

I lived in Lima for 3 years and will be moving back asap. The weather is not that bad, except in July and August. I can live with gray weather, but gray and cold? It can be depressing. And yes, the traffic is terrible from morning until around 8pm. Sundays is the only good day to drive. Pollution is bad, but not terrible. I have traveled all over Lima and Peru, and never had any issues with anything other than terrible drivers and scammers.
Also, there are a lot of nice, residential, green areas around Lima, like San Isidro, San Borja, Surquillo, San Miguel, Magdalena and Barranco. But yes, the further get away from the coast, the more pronounced the desert environment becomes.
I will say this though, if you move to Peru, the pluses will be the food, the culture, the beautiful and varied landscapes, the parties, and Lima is pretty much the gateway to Western South America.
The downside will be the scammers, the bad drivers, and the bureaucracy (not just government, but business as well).

I find misleading that some people compare the San Francisco weather to Lima's. Lima has very hot summers, and humid and cold winters. Humid in terms of you can even breathe the humidity. I would say that Lima's weather resembles pretty much to the highlands in Peru.

I lived in Lima from May through August one year. I can attest to the misty "winter" (more like spring temperatures to me), with its humid-yet-chilly days.
It's not that bad, and it may be a welcome break from the hotter months.. However, it can be a little bleak-looking day after day, and you don't get as much sunlight.
