Like the rest of the comments, your video popped out out nowhere, i too live in Ontario.with dyw videos out there,it was nice to see someone in Ontario,so i watched your video and subscribed to your channel, all the best for family
Found your family today by accident. I subscribed right away! It’s so nice to find other christian families that are homesteading. We are building our house on 80 acres in northern Wisconsin. You did an awesome job on the video! Keep up the great work, we will be following along!!!
I never really understood why we sheath the entire building in OBS instead of putting in a few diagonals. Also, it is my understanding that a solid OSB wall is already a to code vapour barrier. So I dont think you need any plastic added on top of that (other than taping the cracks). Which is another reason why I dont understand how it can be considered a good idea to sheath the outside of a house in OSB. Congratulations. Only a year is a huge accomplishment.
Thanks! Yeah the way they build in Europe is completely different. The A-frame roof is completely vented to the outside which is really nice 😊 You’re probably right about the vapour barrier BUT it came with the kit so we might as well do it! 😛
So happy for you guys just found your channel and like how you thank God because its something you don't hear or see much lately, this is my dream since I migrated to Canada 14 years ago, also checked same company Avrame, God bless you and your family more good bye
Awesome job with the build, we live in the same area and are also clearing land looking at the avrame kits to build in the next year or two. Would you mind sharing what the delivery cost ended up being for you guys on this kit?
Hey! Sure we can share! Feel free to email us: canadianAhomestead@gmail.com If you’re nearby we’d be happy to host you for a visit too and show you around our build. 😊
This is awesome and something I would love to do. I’m in Southern Ontario and hope to move north in the next 10 years. How far north are you? I worry about the winters north of North Bay
Go for it! You can totally do it. We’re about 40 minutes to North Bay. The winter was brutal for building but in our other house where we live, the wood stove has us opening our windows at night. It’s really not that awful though 😛 The thing that you have to learn to adapt to on the homesteading side of things is the shorter growing season. Most of what we watched and learned on TH-cam before starting was US-based gardening in zones 5+ whereas we are zone 3. Huge difference and slightly disheartening. We’ll get more into that soon but it seems a greenhouse will be necessary!
Just stumbled across your channel. Nice to meet another homesteader in Ontario. Among what you have done so far. I look forward to seeing more as time goes.
Here in Southwestern Ontario we have to use a vapour barrier over the insulation. I noticed you didn’t do that. Is it because of the type of insulation you used?
Hi! We do use insulation on top (this is where we are continuing on from after this video)! That goes on after the OSB. The vapour barrier is the inner most layer before the finishing material.
Hey! We are organised. It really didn’t change much at all. It’s funny when we started we thought unorganised was the way to go but all we had to do was submit permits and so far it has actually been pretty nice because the building inspector has been able to help us answer some questions about how to go about doing things and has been a support to us. The cost of our permit was something around $1000. But it was approved. As long as your plans follow Ontario code and are stamped by a certified engineer (which the Avrame houses are), then they legally have to accept what you plan! 😊
I definitely do strap when it’s a slippery situation. But I find sometimes if I strap myself when it isn’t slippery the fall arrest becomes a tripping hazard. We take safety very seriously, though. Thanks for your comment!
We’re sorry you feel that way! There were just too many miracles along the way for us to call it “chance.” The outcome was always far beyond what we could have orchestrated on our own. Surely a greater power at work is observable in your daily life too. ❤️

Agreed, and I immediately followed after hearing the outlook and thanking God for everything. Many blessings to your family this holiday season.
That is so nice to hear. Thank you!!
You did all that work in the dead of winter? Crazy.

Are you un, or organized? How did that affect building permits taxes if organized?

please strap yourself to the roof next time. Very nice work.
