The truth is that basic training only makes it appear as though following orders without using your brain is what makes a good soldier. Basic training is just meant to enforce the idea that you follow orders no matter what. In the real military you have to think all the time to figure out how to carry out more complex orders/taskings and why they were issued in the first place.

Beyond that it had great and hilarious writing, moments, characters. Great jokes, great acting. I think it's very real, he's a teenager, no matter how smart he is, he is gonna make mistakes and has to learn from them. That's what I like about Malcolm, he is a very flawed person and the show makes it clear, and he has to learn from the other characters in order to change.
They all have loose self control, bordering on criminal. But among all the family members, only Malcolm can f*ck everyone: classmates, teachers, family, community (?) and get away with it. Definitely a genius.
