They are called heat checks. They are actually fine. When I was machining flywheels you'd consistently see heavy truck flywheels come in for resurfacing with them. No way to avoid them due to the loads these trucks haul which causes the clutch and flywheel to heat up excessively. The biggest problem is this is a stepped flywheel. See those raised parts around the edges? They are supposed to be machined down the same amount as the disc surface (which they weren't and will cause premature clutch failure because the clutch has more distance to travel. This will cause a high pedal and quick clutch failure).
The ones you have to worry about are the cracks that migrate to the crank bolt holes. Other than that, 90% of flywheels habe these heat cracks..no biggie
Absolutely ingenuous way to perform such precision machine shop operation. The technicians have an ocean of hacks to get such accurate work done. Shabaaash.
Preciscion wire runout guage. The grinding wheel is perfectly round and concentric and doesn't decrease in radius as it wears out. Also the two massive vissible cracks which go most of the way across aren't of any concern. Other than that perfect resurfacing job.
Guys, you did a great job of making the face flat. BUT, if you grind the face back 1mm, you must grind the outer stands down 1 mm. The pressure plate has a certain designed installation height. You can probably make some kind of adjustment internal to the pressure plate to compensate but, it would be better to maintain the correct installed height for the pressure plate. If you don't have the right installed height, there will be low pressure against the clutch disc..
Thats .040 and i doubt he ground that much off. Its probably underpowered anyway and will hold fine if the crappy driver quits slipping the crap out of it
What a talented young man. A lot of modern turner's would not know how to set-up a job without a clock gauge. Also, the turner must have been taught to look after his lathe, judging by it's appearance and his pre start-up oiling. Greetings from England
Amazing people ❤, with very basic tools and zero safety equipments they fix you up and get you back on your way for misery of 20 quid. My heart goes to them , This is what I call survival 👍👍👍👏👏👏✌❤☘
Omg I can’t even handle it 🤣. So he took OUT the cutting bar and installed a jimmy rigged grinder into a lathe to face off the clutch surface!! Even if you have the proper tool JIMMY RIG IT!!! Love it.
I would like some captions or commentating. Explaining everything they are doing and why. Like the hanger wire device he was using. Was he checking for wobble to make sure it is even and ready for resurface? I also noticed the belts were on different pulleys. Slower speed for different type of cut. Nice
There arnt many flywheels that come of trucks that are not cracked flywheel can be surfaced a few times without trouble well done that man save rhe planet
Clutch cover (pressure plate) mounting lugs should be reduced in height by same amount as disc face .... Cracks may distort when hot and reduce friction material life by shaving its surface .... good repair but only half completed .... machine those lugs.
Except it was completely wrong. That is a stepped flywheel. He only machine the clutch surface, not the other portions which will cause the clutch to fail prematurely. And the cracks are called check and are normal for truck flywheels.
You should really stop drill all those cracks so they don't get bigger. You've got a drill press wouldn't take more than 30 minutes. Pretty ingenious way of machining tho!! 👍👍
Man...work with what ya got...but you got a fairly decent lathe!!! Find some tool steel and grind a good cutting tip..forget the grinder you can remove much more material, much quicker and much more precisely with a well made cutting tip and save money on grinding discs
With all those heat checks in the surface there will be hard spots that won't cut with a tool bit. Now if they mounted up a cup wheel and ran it flat against the surface instead of traversing they'd get a proper job.
Nice job but cracked flywheel can't be reused. If it brake into pieces on the engine it will damage the engine block or the gearbox. I guess customer agrees to take the risk
Hi friends, Don't use this grinder machine , original flywheels were made in lathe machine, too hot on surface could make micro cracks and origin big cracks in the future. It's really, I'm working forma Years in a flywheels factory.
The duration of the milling operation is completely wrong!!!! Because the surface of the flywheel gets extremely hot and causes hairline cracks on the surface of the flywheel, and the flywheel will not last long, my good friend!!!!
Creative way to do it with the tools and equipment they have at their disposal. I just feel bad for these hard workers who do this work with zero safety equipment like safety glasses. Someone from OSHA would have a heart attack watching one of these videos from this channel.

Yeh, don't worry about those cracks. Those are supposed to be there.

How do you say, "grenade" in Pakistan?
@@coollasice4175 Nope. those are normal, trust me. Granted, if they get too long and too many, it will be a problem but not always.

I love your videos. They make me feel and remember the time i worked with my dad. And i also learn a lot. I love you guys.

Are you trying to be funny?
right, saw those cracks and was like.... sure that'll be fine at 5000rpm.
Those aren't cracks, they are expansion gaps for when the flywheel heats up.

Washers
No point adding washers, it'll make the problem worse. as already stated pressure plate mounting surface also needs machining by same amount
Thats .040 and i doubt he ground that much off. Its probably underpowered anyway and will hold fine if the crappy driver quits slipping the crap out of it

Excellent skills involved here, just shows what the human eye is capable of to get so little run out when setting this up.
Is the wire measuring run out metric or imperial?
Look at you go to town on that fly wheel, amazing work , keep up that talented 💪🏻🤙🏻
Why you didn't used a toolbit cutter bro?

In this way you're destroying a lathe bed. You need to cover the bed, because dust from grinding is harder than this, so it will be harmed quickly.
Exactly. My heart aches when I see lathe abuse.

Please tell them to cover the ways to prevent grit from the grinder wheel scraping the ways. 🤔
I’ll see a lot of stress cracks but nice clean and ingenious equipment

Its a general technique to resurface there.
The guy should cover the lathe bed during grinding, because the abrasives could ruin the surface of the bed.
