I just finally got mine going again after it sat in the shed for a while. Absolute beast of a bike, titanium intake valves tend to wear out every 150 hours or so but otherwise rock solid. Definitely be keen to see some klx450 content

Good call, I had a WR500 to replace my aging TT600 way back then. Bought a KX500 new and that was me for a few years. Too many hospital trips and broken bones means I won't ride the 500 anymore. Might have to look at a KLX450 . Got a DR650 modified to get me off the road and a ZX14R to keep me on the road. I'm only 62 so, I'm still a young fella. Just subscribed.

    Good choice Curtis.
An underrated bike imo and a bargain at $2800!
That will take you anywhere your Vstrom won’t, and you could turn it into a lightweight adventure bike if you wanted too.
From someone like me who doesn’t need the latest sand greatest I endorse your choice of dirt bike 👍

I wanted to thank you for your videos and sharing your rides. I found your channel when researching the VStrom 800DE. I bought one and love it and appreciate what you've done with yours and the places you take it! I also think it's a good move going to a lighter dirt bike. I can also attest to the earlier comments about hospital trips and broken bones with a KX500. I had a highly modified CR500. No hospital or broken bones but she was called the widow maker!
    Awesome channel and content!

  • @Escape-24-7
    @Escape-24-7 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Nice choice, definitely don’t see many others. I bought mine new in 2022, instead of a DRZ400. Pros are better suspension out the box, more power and nimble. Cons are that because they aren’t easily rego’d in the US, there isn’t a lot of demand for farkles. I sourced a second hand 16L Acerbis tank for mine and put a B&B bash plate on. Had the dealer restrict it before I picked it up. My fuel range is ~230kms with the big tank. I run soft panniers for longer trips. As others have mentioned, chain slap and wear on sliders is the biggest drama and keep an eye on valve clearances.

    • @onthebackwheel

Awesome. A man after my own heart! You forgot to mention that nostalgic kick starter! Love my KLX450. Just bought a CRF450RL for my son and we plan to build em into light ADVs as kind of an old school v new school bit of fun. You’ll find it’s not so easy to track down aftermarket parts for the KLX - loads of parts discontinued. But I recon that’ll just make the build comparison more fun! Eg currently looking at modding a 20L Nomad tank for it - if I get it to work I’ll post a vid on it.

    • @onthebackwheel

Bought one new. Good wheelie bike. Nice smooth power.
    Suspension is soft standard.
I spent most of my time working on it. The inlet valves closed up really fast.
Had to get the head rebuilt with new valves.
The bike is slow to charge the battery and runs flat fast.

I had an 07 KLX450 for 5 years. It was a love hate relationship. I found the FMF made it incredibly aggressive and twitchy.
Careful with the kickstarter, it will try to break your knee if you’re not careful.

Great bike ,You'll love it. I've had one for many years and found it would keep up with any bike on the trails ( unless there was a pro rider on one). First thing I did was remove the air injection system, a small pump that injected air back in somewhere and made the bike run very hot, I'd say your's has been done seeing as you have an aftermarket pipe. And yes the original header dips down and back up over the filter hence the room in the bashplate,( It was a pain to get to the filter). I kept the stock muffler, it actually sounded good when on the gas. Prior to that I had a KLX 300 which I modded the carb, but the 450 is much more power and actually easier to ride and oddly enough doesn't shred tyres like the 300. I bought a T7 2 years ago and haven't used the 450 much , you've just inspired me to get it out again. Cheers from NZ (ps we don't have road registered ones here)

Klx450 seems good value for money! I own a klx 250 with the 331cc big bore kit which is more of a dual sport with longer service intervals and 6 speed transmission, after riding it for 100,000kms I started looking for a replacement the klx450 crossed my mind but with the 5speed transmission and carburetor it just didn't cut it for me, ended up buying a almost brand new swm rs500 set up for adventure work for thousands less than new and $10,000 cheaper than a brand new ktm500!

@@onthebackwheel I would say that I am reasonably happy with the rs500 the ergonomics and the kyb suspension is good, holds 1.7lt of oil and service intervals between 2000 to 2500kms for the riding I do! The only things I would say is a down side to the bike is stock plastics are rubbish, stock fueling and arrow map is not great have invested in power commander and 12 port injector which is much much better and close ratio transmission is not ideal but with a 14 or 15 tooth front sprocket it's no worries and being 501cc has plenty of torque to pull a taller 1st gear!

But with all these camshaft failures happening to the KTM's (and by extension Husqvarna), there as no way I as going down that path. The Tuareg was just so scarce second hand. So, the Tiger popped up on the radar and I was watching a video (I think by by Pulvey from Brake Magazine) who said that the 2nd gen Tiger 800's had just the right amount of tech...cruise, ABS and TC. No inertial IMU's, no keyfobs etc. So, one came up stupidly cheap with very low km's on Bikesales and I jumped! So much more refined than the Tenere and just as good offroad IMHO due to the outstanding wp fully adjustable suspension and just the right amount of electronics.
