  • LZ X-Ray Visit in 2018. The site of the Battle of Ia Drang 1965 during the Vietnam war.
    Just a short video and some of my photos from my visit.
    Update: • LZ X-Ray Ia Drang Viet...
    drone (aerial view from the same spot 2024.)
    I don't know why I didn't include them in this video but I also had a Nikon F3T film camera with vietnam era lenes. I shot some black and white. I'll use them in an upcoming video.
    Updated Thumbnail is one of the shots I took on film.

    RIP, Ronnie Mathis. He died from the wounds he received in LZ X-Ray getting his platoon leader who had been wounded to a medivac helicopter. Ronnie was successful in getting his Sgt loaded onto the Huey when he was cut down by enemy fire just as it lifted off. He later died that evening.

    It’s crazy how flat it, barley any hills or ditches for them to hide in, only the tree and bushes for concealment. They went against thousands of enemies and managed to survive on the terrain, it’s crazy.

      ever heard of post-1975 Vietnamese internal colonialism of the Central Highlands? Millions of Kinh settlers flooded into region while the Montagnards- indigenous peoples were deported away, their home lands confiscated by Vietnamese racists. who then deforested the region and turned it into their industrial center

    Somebody has to get to LZ Albany to get some footage. It's the one place where we really don't know what it looks like today. If someone out there reads this and is going there please get to LZ Albany. There are coordinates on the Ia Drang Wikipedia page.

    Excellent footage Phil. My friend Kyle Le took the footage back in 2014 for me. I would love to have seen what the terrain on the hill looked like. If you ever get back there try to walk up that first hill overlooking LZ to get a North Vietnamese perspective and get some shots of that. Awesome job!!

      Its on route QL 14c. It runs astride the eastern face of the Chu Pong massif. Use the coordinates on the Battle of Ia Drang Valley Wikipedia page. If you are going there try to go to where LZ Albany was. LZ Albany is about 3 miles northeast of LZ Xray. You can get the coordinates for Albany on the same Wikipedia page. Its not far from Xray and nobody has any recent photos of LZ Albany or video. email me at michaeldineen58@yahoo.com . I had Kyle Le take the original LZ Xray footage in 2014.

    • @michaeldineenSG2018
      @michaeldineenSG2018 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both LZ Xray and LZ Albany are about 30 miles southwest of Pleiku. Im pretty sure route QL 14c intersects with route 19. Route 19 runs to the Cambodian border.

      I've read that lz x ray is a time sensitive area because of land mines and foreigners are not aloud anywhere near it. Is this true?

    • @michaeldineenSG2018
      @michaeldineenSG2018 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is to a point. If you want to go through official channels you can go to the police headquarters in Pleiku which is now Gia Lai province and they can give you a permit and probably an escort to go there which may cost you a few bucks. Or you can get a cab driver to try to sneak you out there which is possible also. The escort wont let you climb Chu Prong mountain due to possible unexploded ordinance but they will take you to Xray and probably LZ Albany if you ask permission. My friend Kyle Le went out to LZ Xray for me in 2014 and went by himself on a motorbike and shot some footage of Xray. He didn't go to LZ Albany though. You should definitely go. If you go you have to make sure you get to LZ Albany cause nobody has any footage or photos of that place that's recent. I have a load of pictures from the area if you want so send me your email and I'll send them to you.

    • @michaeldineenSG2018
      @michaeldineenSG2018 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Albany is only about 3 miles slightly northeast of Xray so make it a priority to get there. I have some press photos of Albany so if you go you can use them to match up what it looks like.
