  • This video shows you how to remove the starter on a third generation C3 Chevrolet Corvette, manufactured from 1967 to 1982. The process is relatively straightforward, but there are a few things to keep in mind to avoid any damage.
    Tools and materials needed:
    1. Jack and jack stands
    2. Wheel chocks
    3. Socket wrench set
    4. Screwdriver
    5. Wire brush
    6. Replacement starter (if needed)
    Instructions:
    1. Park the Corvette on a level surface and set the parking brake.
    2. Place wheel chocks in front of and behind the rear tires.
    3. Use a jack to raise the front of the Corvette and place jack stands under the frame rails.
    4. Remove the front wheel on the passenger side.
    5. Locate the starter on the passenger side of the engine, below the exhaust manifold.
    6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the starter solenoid.
    7. Remove the two nuts that hold the starter to the engine block.
    8. Carefully remove the starter from the engine compartment.
If you are installing a new starter, reverse the steps above.
    Tips:
Be careful not to damage the exhaust manifold when removing the starter.
If the starter is difficult to remove, try tapping it lightly with a hammer.
Apply a thin coat of anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the starter mounting bolts before installing the new starter.
    Safety:
Always wear safety glasses when working on a car.
Be careful not to overtighten the starter mounting bolts.
Make sure that the electrical connector is firmly attached to the starter solenoid before starting the engine.
    Additional information:
You can also check the starter to see if it is working properly. To do this, disconnect the electrical connector from the starter solenoid and connect a jumper cable between the positive terminal of the battery and the terminal on the starter solenoid. If the starter turns over, then it is working properly. If the starter does not turn over, then it is likely faulty and will need to be replaced.
