I think Fotohui thought the same thing, which really caused him a problem, as he lost confidence in being able to attack in the middle. He tried to switch to taking the action outside the initial 4m, but had mixed results until the end.
Really don't like to see fencers standing still and putting their hand up to try and get the opponent carded, then putting hand to their ear as though they weren't ready themselves if it looks like the referee isn't giving the card. :(

Ref is being precise, but consistent. Iraninan fencer dropping hand during attack being seen as a mistake etc.
