Totally agree with your connection between overlanding and boat camping. Great video and stories as always.

Andrew, you clearly are a boatie, you have built one and cruised it, just another feather in the cap. Great vid.

What a great episode. The videos from this trip looks more „personal“ to me, than others (which are also quite personal). But this feels even more like this to me. Thanks.

I thoroughly enjoyed that. Whilst your overlanding skills are what tend to get the attention, your storytelling and film production skills are more than worthy of attention also. The message of the purpose of overlanding is very evident in this video and is a reminder that the mode of transportation is nothing more than a tool.

Beautiful film, Andrew. I always appreciate your work. The water level on Lake Powell (and resultant flow of the Colorado River) fluxuates based on the electrical demand in the major cities that are fed by the Glen Canyon Damn. In the evenings when people are active at home and electrical demand is high, the outflow of the damn increases to produce more power and the lake level falls. Overnight, when demand is low, damn outflow is lower and the lake rises. Being there in the spring, snowmelt runoff is also high at that time so the lake is rising in general with subsequent drawdown in the fall and winter.

Thank you. That explains a lot.

Isn’t there a lot more people, millions of more people, using water from the Colorado River for drinking, sewage and irrigation, drawing out far more than in the past 100+ years?

@@ricoman7981Yes. It’s not super sustainable unless there are really strict usage rules and conservation.

Been to Powell many times. Absolutely beautiful. Even though it’s man made you can’t get around how spectacular it is being able to explore all the canyons.
I’ve always wanted to make a light weight pontoon boat and outfit it with a large solar canopy and be able to just quietly and slowly put-put around the lake. No hurry, no rush. Just enjoy it in quiet with the family.

The moment that image of the Mirror sailboat popped on screen I was transported back to my childhood. My father bought a kit at a boat show in Toronto and hired his good friend, who was a genius with fibreglass and generally all things handy, to build it for him. I have many memories of sailing with my Dad on the lakes around southern Ontario and having my head bashed repeatedly by the boom swinging across the very cramped cabin. I was already 6’4” at the time and was ripe for head walloping. Those orange sails….what a memory jostling that image gave me 😊

Its just a word. Overlanding can be done by car, 4x4, bicycle, motorbike, camper, and as it happens even by boat.

Nice boat, a jet drive would be slick on that. I love taking my little 12.5' Porta-Bote there it's just extremely sea worthy for the size and floats in all of 4" of water. When the weight is balanced correctly it's pretty quick with just a 6hp outboard. Definitely planning a trek back to lake Powell to do some real exploring with a boat that can get into anywhere and is extremely efficient on fuel and can carry plenty of gear safely for weeks plus out without a refuel.

Bula Andrew from Fiji. Just checking what’s your thoughts in the Stabicraft boat? Do you have a review on it? I know that you mainly review Four Wheel Drives but am interested to hear your views on the Stabicraft. Or how does the owner find the boat? Cheers mate….after just watching the video I saw the boat captain/owners opinion😂👍😎

I'm having a case of Deja vu -- AGAIN... Didn't you do this trip on the lake some years ago??? I note that the lake levels are down in this video as well. While it has not totally regained its former high water level, it does seem to be a bit lower than it should be after the rains of 2023.

Is it just me….how does one, “overland” across water, in a boat? I believe it is no longer overlanding when you remove the land from the equation….

They are just words. Call it what you like. I've been an overlander for 40 years (in the truest sense) and this is my expression.
