Or how about this system: our lockers are located halfway down the line, so after waiting for thirty minutes you have to risk losing your place in line by going over to the side and sorting out the lockers. And you better have the required cash/credit/whatever on you, or you’re screwed.

In that case i would probably lock my bag to a bench and leave it there😂 fortunantely as far as i can tell those locking systems doesn't exist in europe, i dunno what the heck do some parks think when they think about locking systems, if you don't have money to do something like F.L.Y. ones (that are perfect btw), just do the same as Taron has...

For cedar fair parks, I ALWAYS opt for the drink plan instead of the bottle for 4 main reasons.
1 - no chance of forgetting the bottle anywhere
2 - no bottle to be stolen
3 - I can get one for a friend, so no one shares the same drink
4 - I can give my pass to a family member in a different area of the park, so they can use my pass for a drink, and I use my pass on my phone. As long as we coordinate 15 mins apart that is.
Pretty much works every time, and I way prefer the plan over the suvenior bottle

    • @AirtimeThrills
      @AirtimeThrills 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I also chose the cup plan for this reason. Only downside is that the bottle is much easier to carry around to have a drink with you for a longer period of time

Here’s what I’ve always wanted a park to do:
The SV method (pouches for phones, wallets, keys. Then, for everything else, boom FREE locker. You could still bring phones in line, but you’d have a secure place to have them while riding (the zippered pouches), and yet, if you have a bag, the locker is free.

There is another way to do it, that i've seen on Oziris (a B&M inverted) in France, where there is a big wooden box with sliders and cases, and people put their stuff in one case each and when they go, the sliders are moved to hide the train's box and to uncover the next box, which contains the stuff of the next train. No complication, no lock, safe and fast, and purely mechanical, and doesn't require guests to empty their bottles before getting in line. :D

This is the same on galactica at alton towers, there are 3 sets of shelves with two sliding doors, so only one set is open at one time.
An interesting thing about Galactica is that there are two stations, and you always finish in a different station as to where you started. This means there must be doors on both sides of the lockers, so they can be accessed from both stations!

Just a hot tip from my personal experience, if you have anything expensive on you, always get a locker if they're available! One time at a park I left my bag in the loose article cubby with my phone in it and someone snagged it as they got off. They got caught by the park security, but they still managed to smash my phone which was a couple hundred dollars to repair. Trust me, an $8 all day locker is much better than having to pay hundreds to replace stolen articles.

  • @scottc4199
    @scottc4199 4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

Gotta love Disney. Their system is just keep your stuff with you in the pouches on the ride or at your feet. I know other parks can't do that cause Disney rides aren't as extreme but it's nice to not have to deal with that. The only lockers they have are optional ones for water rides.

    • @OakViewFilms

The best system I’ve seen is on the spinning coaster at Yomuriland. At the station there’s a set of free lockers. They give you a key bracelet that also has a number on it. When you get off, you go around to the back of the locker and open the door that has your number on it. Essentially each locker has two doors that can be unlocked with the same key

for me, i think baron 1898 (efteling) did it pretty well. You could put things in what you please before entering inside (when theres only 2 minutes left to wait and theres a story element). They let you have a wristband while you ride so you don't need to worry about it, you always get your stuff and it's never insanely crowded.

  • @thoregries6899
    @thoregries6899 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think baron 1889 in efteling does it quite well aswell. The have a system where employees take your bag before you enter the pre show and they give you a wristband with the number of the bin. At the end you return the wristband and you get your bag back. They put the bags in from one side and remove them from the other. On top of that it is free.

GP To Enthusiast that is true, but I notice that locker bays can get very crowded and malfunction. The other part of the queue is filled with screens and stuff, so the entertainment won't be zero. After the ride, you come by the backside of the lockers and you can scan your chip to get your stuff back. It barely delays operations, and it's very guest friendly

I’m a ride operator for galeforece, what did you think of the system we use where we have two rolling shelves. We wand you before you get on the ride and have everyone put their objects in the rolling bin, right before the ride starts we switch the shelves from the preload area to the ride area, that way it is locked in the ride area since we only have one train. Our flow is ok, if I’m with a good op I can get gale force dispatched in 25 seconds, the only thing we have to wait for is for the magnets to cool down enough since it goes around twice now.

    TL: DR at the bottom
Back in 2018, my school took us on our annual end of the year trip. That year we went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg. My friends and I went to Battle for Eire first and we needed a locker. I got the all-day locker that was transferrable from ride to ride. We put our stuff in, got in line, rode it, then went about our day. Later in the day (One of my friends had gone off to be with some other people from our school, this will be important later) we got off Apollo's Chariot (Best coaster in the park btw) and we went to get our stuff. The problem? The friend that went off with the other people, moved our locker WHILE OUR STUFF WAS STILL IN THE LOCKER! I was freaking out (justifiably since all my stuff was in that locker so I had no money or my phone), and my friends were calming me down and eventually, we got an employee to open the right locker (we had also forgotten which locker it was). Once I had calmed down, we put our stuff in some bushes by the exit of Apollo's Chariot and then rode it seven more times (In the dark!).
TL: DR The Busch Gardens all-day transferable lockers are great, just don't let your friends leave without telling you they moved it. Also, Apollo's Chariot is EPIC!

I like the system they use on some coasters in merlin parks, like the swarm, wickerman, saw, stealth, th13teen e.t.c..., where you go up to a booth just before the station, a staff member takes your stuff and puts it on a numbered shelf away from guests, and gives you a wristband with the number on it. Then when you get off the ride, you just give back the wristband and they give back your stuff. It's free, doesn't slow operations, secures your stuff, and means you can have it in line.

Six Flags Great Adventure is my home park, and I hate their system. On El Toro, Joker, Kingda Ka, and Jersey Devil, they make you pay for a locker outside the ride entrance and then you go into the queue line. Also to note is that phones, keys, and wallets must be put in a locker as well when they could easily have pouches on the ride itself.

I’ve used Yukon Striker’s system, it is a wondrous thing. Worst is the ones at King’s Island where the lockers aren’t even near the rides that require you to use them. Even more infuriatingly, there are rides AT KING’S ISLAND where you can just put your stuff in bins that the staff fill and keep an eye on. Of course bins are flawed, but it’s better than paying for an $8 locker that only lasts for 2 hours, which sometimes isn’t even enough to cover wait times.

I know you guys been to Heide Park, maybe you remember what they do at Krake (and other Merlin Parks) where Staff is located before boarding, taking your bags and you get a number, this booth can be accessed after you rode. It requires extra employees so I see why it's not really a thing but you can basically leave your stuff there for several rides or for the day since there is no system like automated lockers from stopping you.

With a two train system bins can be done in a secure, non-confusing way. Take Shivering Timbers at Michigan's Adventure as an example, when I was a ride operator there we had cubbies which correspond to a row in each train. Riders cross over, put their articles in the cubbies (avoiding any liability on the park's side) and once everyone is in the train a door is flipped up or down to secure the items of those who just got on the train and reveal the items of those coming back into the station. It's quick, cheap, and secure. Like I said though, this only works for two train operations.

My Personal favorite Locker System is at Krake, Heide Park, Germany. At the Queue end there is a small building. You just give all you stuff to one person working there and he will give you a Badge that you put in your Pocket. When you exit you come right back on the other side of the Building, give the badge and get your stuff. Really nice system.

One thing that some Six Flags parks (I know Great America does it and MM & Darien Lake don't) do that I wish would be more universal is where the rides (not just coasters) will have a stand you can put your souvenir drink cups in. So if you're a member and you have the refillable member cup (like I do admittedly) you can just put it by the bins or off to the side and your cup won't spill since it's held upright.

What about staffed locker rooms in the queueline? That's a pretty common thing in the UK... you exchange your bag for a wristband at a window in the queueline. After you come off the ride, you then collect your bag from a separate window in the exit line. That way it doesn't hold up operations because the transfer takes place while you're waiting in line.

One time I visited Coney Island in 2015, the Thunderbolt coaster had an interesting locker system similar to Dododonpa's where you are given a free locker complete with a key that goes around your wrist, except the only difference is that you retrieve your stuff from the other side of the locker as you exit. That is if I remember correctly.

I like what Merlin Parks do in the UK...before you get to the station there’s a ride op in ‘cloakroom’ - you give them your stuff and they give you a wrist band in return with a number on. Hand the wrist band at the end of the ride (on the other side of the cloakroom) and they give you your stuff back. Doesn’t hold up operations, it’s secure, and it’s out of the way

I agree with almost all of what you said. If there’s one thing I absolutely hate regarding rides and their loose article policies it has to be El Toro at six flags great adventure. They have all that extra space on the side of the train where passengers exit the ride. They could easily put bins racks or whatever else they could use to store loose articles for passengers. However they haven’t done this. There is always a staff member waiting at the start of the queue line making sure that anyone who has a loose article puts it in the lockers right across from the gate which you have to pay for and it’s the only ride in the entire park which does this.

The system on Mr. Freeze at six flags over Texas is great, but pretty much unique because of the way the ride works. Since they have one train on each side that alternate, and the station is paired to that train, they can just have simple bags/bins and everything is safe because they are not accessible during operation

i quite like the system baron has where you have the baggage area where maybe 2 staf members there take your stuff, put it on a shelf and they give you a wristband and then when you get off the ride you pass by the baggage area on the other side where another staff member can just grab your bag off the shelf. its super quick and easy you just say hi and give your bag or wristband and 3 seconds later youre off to ride baron or to go somewhere else, plus i like that its staffed which to me is a little more warmer than a corridor with metal walls.

Has Taylor ever been to Oakwood Theme Park before? I am a regular there. It looks really bad compared to the places he is used to but Megafobia is critically acclaimed and worth a ride. The other rides? Standard stuff really. Zierer Tivoli, Gerstlauer Eurofighter (Speed:No Limits), common flats. It also has the last Intamin Mega Splash (Drenched). Th other rides are pretty rough and all that but it has a certain character about it. Megafobia has a slot grid storage system in the station (I think Speed has it as well but I've never been on). Each person puts their stuff in one of the squares. Similar to the bin and the locker systems but avoids the spillages and the paying.

Disney has the best lose article set up... Everything goes with you on the ride.
Also I think Merlin parks have a great system as well. At thier bigger attractions they design the queue and exit to pass by a "luggage hold". You give your bags to the attendant on the queue side and when you are done with the ride you pick up your bag on the exit side.

LONG POST WARNING (Tl;dr at bottom)!!
Hello! Ride operator at The Incredible Hulk Coaster here. Let me preface this by saying I am a huge fan of the channel and I love your content!
That being said, yes, I understand that it may get boring in line without your phone, and that it may be better to have bins on the ride platforms/Canada Wonderland's bin suspension system.
Unfortunately, due to the small size of the station and the sheer amount of people that can ride at any single point in time, bins on the ride platforms have proven to be inefficient. For example, during the summer and winter months, we can run 3 trains at a time with 32 people per train to deal with maximum capacity. 32 people/train*3 trains = 96 people riding at any given time. Storing 96 people's belongings on a small platform can become a large hastle.
From a safety perspective, it becomes useless because people can lie to you and say "I have nothing in my pockets. Why should I go to the bins?" Only to then have his/her phone fly out and potentially hurt/kill another guest/team member.
But then, you might ask, why not have metal detectors on the ride platform? Well, from a capacity standpoint, that would be disastrous. Not to mention, the detectors would go wild (especially since there's a metal track/train, metal gates, and metal accents throughout).
The other issue I personally have with bins is that here in Florida (your state may vary), we have several issues of people either leaving valuables behind on a ride or worse, people stealing other guest's valuables because the guest's belongings are insecure and vulnerable. Bins are not a secure option, so your things may be stolen while you're on the ride and you may not know until you get back to the station.
As for the Yukon Striker system, like I said before, Hulk's ride platform is fairly small, so putting in a system like that would require Hulk to undergo another expensive renovation (and nobody wants that at this time).
So yeah, unfortunately at this time, our current policy of putting your stuff in a locker is the most feasible option at this time. Yes, it may get kind of boring, but your safety is more important.
On a side note, I envy the Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt's system because their lockers are part of the queue. Unfortunately, Hulk can't implement that because we share an entry pavilion with another ride (Storm Force Acceletron).
Thank you for your time in reading this very long post, but I wanted everyone to see if from (at the very least) my perspective (I can't speak for my coworkers).
Tl;Dr - I'm an actual ride operator at Hulk, and the current metal detection system at Hulk is the only feasible option at this time for Hulk because of the reasons listed above.

You forgot to mention the trains that have pouches for you to put your phones. Also, Luna Park NYC has a good system for Thunderbolt. You go to what they call "baggage check" and hand your stuff to an attendant who puts it in a numbered cubby and hands you a wristband with that number on it.

I love the europa park method, but I also think exchanging your bag for a wristband and getting it back after the ride works well. I like the idea of bins, but when I visited the land of legends in Turkey I got my hat, glasses and bag stolen! Thankfully all I had in the bag was a water bottle.

I love Universal Studios Japan system, for most of the rides, they have a locker room built into the queue that connects the entrance and exit queues near the start of the ride.... They have an attendant give out laminated cards when coming out of the main queue that tells what items are prohibited on the ride.... It servers as your ticket back into the short queue to the start of the ride. That way no one goes in through the exit. Although it does require a staff member to enable. My only main concern is Fantasy Space doesn't have enough lockers for that ride.

  • @soccerty1214

As a fellow coaster enthusiast, I have my own personal system that I would highly recommend to everyone. I will say that I'm not a TH-camr or anything and I never really take on-ride video so I don't have cameras with me or anything like that. My system is that I use quick dry cargo shorts with zippered pockets. Phone and park map go in the right one, sunscreen and keys go in the left one. I use a phone case that can hold a few cards (membership card, credit/debit card, and ID or some combination of that) as a wallet. For me that covers it. And because the shorts are quick dry, I can go on water rides and be dry pretty quickly afterwards. It's important to get cargo shorts with zippered pockets, and not ones with velcro or button closures because with those ones even though the velcro or button is fastened, the flap isn't totally sealed and stuff can still fall out, although not likely. The hard part with this is that zippered ones are harder to find because velcro or button ones are a lot more common. And when you want them in quick dry fabric it's even harder. I recommend going online and looking for some. That's where I got mine.
Lockers and bins suck. When my home Six Flags park first put lockers in my friends and I walked right past them into the line and got all the way to the entrance to the loading platform only to be told we had to go back and put our stuff in them. We were expecting the in station cubbies and they had gotten rid of them. It can get really bad and confusing when different coasters in the same park use different systems. That's how it is at my home Six Flags park. Some of the coasters use in station cubbies, some use the lockers outside the queue line, and one uses the bins.
With X2 yeah it's weird. I think they were $1 dollar last time I was there about 4 years ago and they made you put your stuff in. That was before I had the cargo shorts though so I don't know what it would be like now. Anyway, I hope this helps.

Cannibal's opening year they had a good system but it took alot of staff to accomplish. As you neared the loading they had a platform with Employees where you'd put your stuff in a bin and the employee would put the bin on a shelf and after you could get your stuff from a employee at a location lower down from the queue line in front of Cannibal. It worked great but took alot of staff to operate. It was replaced with the lockers. I kind of like people not having their phones (plenty sneak them onto Cannibal anyway) but it forces people to talk to others in line.

The secureness of the ones at Alton towers varies. Octonauts has shelves on the boarding thing but a cbeebies worker is there to protect them. Rita has a sliding door over the stuff. I don't know if they were still doing this when you went on your UK trip but some of our parks notably Alton Towers used to have a baggage hold toward the end of the queueline where you give the staff member your bag and they take it to a room elsewhere and give you a wristband corresponding to that shelf so that no one can get it however they've removed it from most of the rides now, only Wickerman has it but it used to be on Th13teen, Smiler etc before. The absolute best system I have had the joy to experience is the locker system on arthur in europa park. the lockers are located after 90% of the queue line. i'd have to say my least favorite locker system is in Busch gardens Tampa. Not only do every time you get a new transferable locker they have you change the pass codes, but you have to remember your long password to get into the system as well. plus sometimes they run out of paper and it feels like they give you seconds to know what locker youre getting, and if it doesn't print out you have to now write down your locker and passcode while holding up the line for other guests to get their lockers. And if you forget your password, you have to go to a gift shop and call in someone who does lockers to come open yours up, taking around 20min. Needless to say I stopped using the lockers after two rides
