    What a great ending and it was well-deserved. I have a story about Barry switcher while he was coaching the Cowboys. It was a client of mine that was living in a condo where Barry Switzer was living next-door while they were building his house remodeling, or whatever. Her mama was dying of cancer And her daughter put his book (bootleggers son) on his front door with a note saying, would you please sign this book? My mother has always loved you and it would bless her if you could do that! Well, Barry switcher went over to the house and spent the whole day with them and had dinner and everything. That’s the epitome of class just a good old country boy from Arkansas treating people with honor and respect.

    Unreal how people discredit Barry. Barry did it his way and won his way. He never tried to be Jimmy and I admire that as a man.
    San Fran was on another level in 1994 and I believe even if Jimmy was the coach then, the Cowboys still lose that 94 NFC Title Game. Barry did his job and handled the opportunity the right way.

People often ignorantly judge his legacy for what happened as coach of the Cowboys, despite the fact he went 35-13 in the regular season, 5-2 in the playoffs, and won a superbowl as head coach compared to Johnson's 36-12, 7-1, and 2 superbowls.

    Been a Dallas fan all of my life. Along with other fans, I took losses personally. At age 9, 10 and 11, I saw my boys lose 3 straight NFC championships. Was fueled with hatred that JJ fired Landry the way he did and brought in another JJ. 1992, I was grateful that the superbowl drought was over. In many ways, I was happy to have Barry as the coach but HATED the way he was perceived. No blame should have come his way in the NFC championship of 1994. Aikman, who I did like, threw those interceptions, not Barry. He often threw shade at Barry which I did not agree with. I am glad Barry walked away a champion. Like my favorite QB, Danny White, Barry will not get the immense credit he deserves.

      The 1994 Cowboys were not favored to represent the NFC in Super Bowl 29. The 49ers were 7 point favorites in the NFC Championship Game. Jones, Switzer, and several players from the 1994 team are simply partaking in revisionist history. The facts are that the 49ers defeated the Cowboys in Week 11 of the 1994 regular season, the Cowboys were riddled with injuries entering the NFC Championship Game, and they had to play a healthy 49ers squad on the road. IMO, the Cowboys went as far as they could in 1994.

    The 1995 roster of the Dallas Cowboys contained 26 players that had never played a down for Jimmy Johnson. This included Hall of Fame players such as Deion Sanders and Larry Allen. In addition, several players that either underperformed or were in Johnson's doghouse, thrived in the Switzer regime. This included Robert Jones, Chad Hennings, and Charles Haley. For example, Haley had 10 sacks in his two years under Johnson whereas in his two years under Switzer, Haley had 23 sacks. The 1995 Cowboys were not as deep as the 1992 and 1993 Cowboys, but from Week 1 to Thanksgiving of that year, they may have fielded the best starting 22 in NFL history.

    My Mom used to work at Deaconess Hospital, Mercy Hospital, St Anthony's Hospital, others, I think she got to see Switzer *TWICE* when he visited his players 1990s. My Mom Said "Hey, you can see him, talk to him on the phone" I said "Mom. You can get fired, it;s a Privacy issue between him and his players" she wouldn;t say. I missed two chances, I was afraid I was gonna get my Mom fired from her job, because she knew BArry was my hero. Isn't that funny, Hey Barry, I'm gonna go see you sometime in Norman, Don;t get me arrested, OK???🤣🤣🤣

    Interesting factoid... No coach in NFL history won more playoff games in their first 3 seasons than Barry Switzer. From 1994-1996, Switzer won 5 playoff games which is 1 more win than George Seifert from 1989-1991. Switzer also won more playoff games than all of his successors combined. Playoff Totals Chan Gailey 0-2 Dave Campo 0-0 Bill Parcells 0-2 Wade Phillips 1-2 Jason Garrett 2-3.

    • @pjtheory
      @pjtheory 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jackduncan5442 I'm assuming that you're comparing the 94 Cowboys to the 94 49ers. I would agree that if the Week 1 roster of the 94 Cowboys faced the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, the Cowboys would have gone on to appear in, and win their 3rd consecutive Super Bowl. The Cowboys team that played the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, however, was not the same team that destroyed the Steelers in Week 1 of the 94 season. The following excerpt from SI writer Rick Telander's article on the 94 Championship Game says it all...
      "Now Switzer is in the very position 49er coach George Seifert would have found himself in had he lost this game. He must apologize for having a team that is terrific, but not quite as good as the best team in the business. In fairness, it must be noted that the Cowboys were one beat-up outfit coming into the game, while the 49ers were healthy as kittens. Dallas listed 24 injured on the Thursday, and among the walking wounded were most of the offensive line and Emmitt Smith. “Think about it,” said Cowboy trainer Kevin O’Neill during the week. “Every guy who scores points for us has been hurt this season. It’s unbelievable to have our record with the injuries we’ve had.”
      I would argue that the 94 49ers were a much better team than the 92 and/or 93 49ers whereas the 92 and 93 Cowboys were better than the 94 Cowboys. I would also argue that the 1994 49ers were the 2nd best team of the 90's, behind only the 1992 Cowboys. Compared to documented fact, however, opinions carry little tangible weight. For example, during the 1994 season...
      - The 7-2 49ers defeated the 8-1 Cowboys to give them an edge in procuring home field advantage in the playoffs.
      - The 1994 49ers were 13-3 and the 1994 Cowboys were 12-4.
      - The 49ers were 7 point favorites over the Cowboys in the 1994 NFC Championship Game.
      - The Cowboys were ranked #1 in Total Defense, yet they didn't record a sack or create a turnover in the NFC Championship Game.
      - The Cowboys turned the ball over 5 times, and 4 of those turnovers were committed by 2/3 of the Triplets.

      @@pjtheory I said that 92-94 Cowboys were more talented than 89 49ers and 94 49ers. I actually think the 92 49ers are underrated. They went 14-2 and had the league MVP. And Dallas kicked their ass in Candlestick.

  • @pjtheory
    @pjtheory 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To my knowledge, this is the first documentary to mention the 1996 season. This was Barry Switzer's best coaching job with the Cowboys. The list of issues with this team was staggering, yet they somehow headed into a meaningless game at RFK with a 10-5 record. Irvin was suspended for the first 5 games of the season, back issues led to the retirements of Novacek and Haley, Lett was suspended for the latter part of year after being the front runner for Defensive Player of the Year, Smith played the entire season with bone chips in his ankle, and Aikman suddenly morphed into a JAG. Despite this laundry list of obstacles, Switzer's Cowboys dominated the Vikings and one could argue that if Irvin and Sanders were not injured the following week in Carolina, Switzer would have coached in his 3rd straight NFC Championship Game.

    • @adamr6794
      @adamr6794 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All these suspensions are a reflection of Switzer's leadership. The team went fully off the rails under Barry. And yes if everything was perfect Barry could have ridden Jimmy's coattails into a third championship game, but Barry was too dumb to pull it off and lost to a freaking expansion team. Dominating the Vikings is not an accomplishment.
