Hey, guys! Thanks for watching and the great comments and suggestions! I should (and should have) mention(ed) that I also play the flute, and listen to a lot of classical and jazz music, and love the natural, acoustic sounds of the cello and violin. That's why I was a bit thrown off by the sound of the instruments used in this song. I absolutely LOVED this work, and am looking forward to listening the whole thing despite those small nitpicks. Rock on! 🤘
Ayreon is the (main) project of Dutch composer, producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Arjen Anthony Lucassen. He does scifi concept albums (both instrumental and lyrics he writes about 95% of the songs). He has had over 80 different singers on his 9 (double)albums. Most albums are part of the bigger story called the Ayreon Universe. He has not done many live-shows but the ones he did are all killer. The 4 main shows are: 1.) Star One - live on earth (actually starone is a side project, but they did play some Ayreon songs) 2002-dvd2003 2.) The Theater Equation (a playthrough of the cd human equation, this is more a broadway-theater show) 2105-dvd2016 3.) Ayreon Universe (a best of full on prog-rock-metal show) 2017-dvd2018 4.) Ayreon - Electric castle live and other tales (a playtrough of the cd Into the electric castle, and 1 song of each side-project) 2019-dvd2020 To get you started, here is one song of each show. 1.) Into the black hole th-cam.com/video/oriR8CpI-Io/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Metallwish 2.) Day two: Isolation th-cam.com/video/0zaJlvmpLrw/w-d-xo.html 3.) Mike Mills the many faces has a range from # F1 to C6 . BTW the binary says Trust TH-1 . Here is a list of the composer and singers in order of appearance: Arjen Lucassen - Composer - Dutch singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist musician and record producer best known for his long-running progressive metal/rock opera project Ayreon. James Labrie - Lead singer for Dream Theatre. Tommy Karevik - Lead singer of Kamelot and Seventh Wonder. Tommy Rodgers - Lead singer of Between the Buried and Me. Simone Simmons - Lead singer of Epica. Nils K. Rue - Lead singer of Pagan's Mind and also worked with Eidolon. Tobias Sammet - Lead singer of Edguy & Avantasia. Hansi Kürsch - Lead singer of Blind Guardian and Demons & Wizards. Mike Mills - Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and main songwriter for Toehider. Russell Allen - Lead singer of Symphony X and Allen/Lande. Michael Eriksen - Lead singer of Circus Maximus. Floor Jansen - Lead singer of After Forever, ReVamp & now Nightwish.
17:40 Re: Michael Eriksen's pronounciation of "together" you said that he should have emphasized the end of the word, saying "errr." When I studied singing back in high school (a LONG time ago) my music teacher taught us that some r's, particularly those at the end of words are not to be pronounced...that a word like "together" should be pronounced "to-ge-thahh" (other examples: "brother" would be "brothahh," "car" would be "caah," "forward" would be "foewahd"...like a bad Boston accent*). I don't know if this is a difference between classical technique and more modern ways of singing, but singers in the bands I enjoy go both ways - some emphasize r's while other avoid them. I think it's just a matter of training and preference. Also, I think the posture Eriksen assumes is deliberately chosen to create a tighter, pinched sound. Some singers use the way they hold their body and trachea in particular to create add stylistic elements to their singing. By positioning himself in this manner, he restricts airflow and the resulting timbre is a bit more tinny than it would otherwise be with a fully-open windpipe. Just a thought. *These are just rough phonetical approximations.
Yup, that's why I said that it might have worked for him. I didn't want to assume otherwise, and it is an unhealthy practice if you don't know what your doing! He is actually a great singer, as evidenced by he way he sings in his second appearance!
Thanks for the reaction and your input, great great analysis! I would really like to see other songs from this album analyzed by you, like the first 4 from the source CD2
Welcome in the amazing world of Arjen A. Lucassen Aka Ayreon Universe (Ayreon, Ambeon, Star one, Guilt Machine, Gentle Storm, Stream of Passion).... Enjoy this rabbit hole….!!!!!
Valley of the Queen’s is a must. 3 superior female vocalists. Floor is one of them. Surprisingly enough, she is not the stand-out in this performance -IMHO
A thing I will never understand. Someone calls him/herself a musician/music teacher/voice coach or whatever, but isn't able to copy a simple melody after hearing it. Going down where one should go up or even in a completely different key. Incomprehensible!
i only listened to this song myself, 4 months ago now, and yes imediality listened to the whole album, the Source, great stuff!! and im in if you go there, i will see your reactions dude!! i havent listened to all Arjen´s project, but so fat the Source is the best, and other abums listened to, also got some real good songs, well its always a story Arjen tells, so it is, listeng to the projects he make..
Hi from the UK 🇬🇧 Simone simons is the lead singer in the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica ♥ Check them out Epica unleashed live retrospect show (full orchestra on stage with the band 👌) Floor jansen (the vakyrie) is the lead singer in the finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish ♥ Nightwish ghost love score wacken open air concert 2013 And prepare for the Epica and Nightwish army arriving at the door 🚪 lol 😆
Any reviews you choose will be appreciated but being Nightwish/Floor Jansen centric will keep the ball rolling at a faster pace and allow more people to appreciate you and your unique talent, with observations not easily found in the Reactor class. You are not a reactor. You are a talented evaluator with much to offer those eager to learn. NW will be your force multiplier if you so desire.
You need to whisper a bit louder if we are to hear you properly. Even when you turn down the video's volume, you're still quite soft-spoken. People need to adapt their own volume each time you speak or continue the video. Just crank up your mic level a bit, and things should be fine.
Maybe try to not focus on Dream Theater next time. Arjen has been around a long time and knows what he is doing. This is a collab that required the performers that couldnt be there to record their own take on the material. Watch some Aryeon live. All these singers are great at what they do. All these singers are well known in Europe and have a heavy following. Don't see this reaction going well.
But, I only referenced DT during Labrie's part and that heavy riff that sounded like one of their songs. And I think it's agreeable that Russel did look like JLB in his photo used here. And I did acknowledge the talent that all the musicians had, especially the singers (with one VERY minor gripe, but that was just an observation). And I'm not European (obviously lol) so I'm not really familiar with most of these wonderful singers.
It’s his opinion. There are very good musicians that make music that I don’t like. There is probably music out there that you don’t like, even if it is made by professionals….don’t you think?
No sampling here, pure sounds.
After that, the two live concerts:
Ayreon Universe live
The electric castle live and other tales

You can hear things mi
You can hear things most others can’t... education, training, desire, genetics...
Im proud of you your such a good music teacher. Beautiful
You should hear Brittney Slayes from Unleash The Archers and their song Awakening 🤘🇨🇦 she is an epic power metal vocalist
The 001 guy is Mike Mills of toehider. He is amazing on his own. Reccomend watching On and On Playthrough to get an impression of sick songwriting
Ayreon "Valley on the queens" 3 epic rock goddesses. Nuff said.
Go for Everybody Dies Live... Won't regret.
I've been listening to them for a long time!Super!!!👍👏🤩🇷🇺

The way Michael postures does work well for him he has been quite successful with Circus Maximus
Love the vocalizing during the (bluesy) guitar solo (before Russell) btw.

Wow huge improvements in set/equipment. Parent’s rock. Sometimes don’t get enough credit.
Metal scenes Who is who!😀Perhaps you would like to check out Ayreon s Everybody dies or Valley of the Queens? A whole new rabbithole!

Brutta copia dei Queen
Seriously dude so much criticism. I mean you do realize these are professional singers and musicians right? They know what they're doing lol
Dont know what you are talking about. 99 % enjoying, 1 % of hints by a vocal coach. Thats what i saw.
