It’s the same principle of treasure digging: Including a promise that you will find the treasure, so you’re always watching for it. When it doesn’t come to pass, you question whether you performed with exactness and question YOURSELF instead of the church. The exact same reasons Joseph gave when he couldn’t find treasure for people. He’d blame the crew and the land owners.

My two sisters-in-law got their patriarchal blessings 2 years apart, but from the same exact patriarch. When they shared theirs together, they realized both their blessings were 100% identical, word for word. They both left the church pretty quickly after that. My patriarchal blessing told me that I would be a prominent figure in the government and make important decisions that would be helpful for the country, as well as the church. I shared my blessing with a couple close friends(I was at college), and one friend told me I should start taking political science classes. Nope. I have always been a severe introvert, and HATE public speaking. I hate meeting new people, and I hate politics in general. After my blessing, I knew either God didn't know me very well, or the patriarch was full of BS.

One of worst mistakes I made when I was young was trying to follow my patriarcal blessing a road map it often led me to a dead ends. I remember talking to the patriarch of the church around 1981, when I was back from my mission, his opinion was that a patriarchal blessing was more like a prayer of hopful possibles but did not consider it a type of fortune telling.

My Patriarchal Blessing says Reply hazy; try again.
We lived in the mountains and our patriarch was in the valley. On our way down the hill to get my blessing a motorcycle in front of us went over a cliff. We stopped, but he had gone too far down the cliff for us to help so we proceeded down and called 911 at the bottom (this was in the 70s so no cell phones). Never found out what happened. I should have taken it as a sign.
I haven't read it in centuries. I should dig it up to see how it all is turning out now that I'm an old man. Probably most of it will be in the next life.
Edit: I found it. It sure talks a lot about Satan wanting my soul. I guess it came true. I align much more with The Church of Satan or Satan's Temple than stniaS yad-rettaL fo tsirhC suseJ fo hcruhC ehT (Satan likes it backwards - victory x2) 🤘

My wife was one of the very few that had two patriarchal blessings from two different patriarchs, because the first patriarch failed to send his to church headquarters. I was present at both blessings, and each patriarch assigned my wife to a different tribe. When I later asked another patriarch about this discrepancy, he replied, "So, what?" He had no answer.
So yeah: they're all made up, and the points don't matter.

My patriarchal blessing has a lot of pretty generic phrases and instructions. One that was particularly not helpful was the promise of being a peacemaker in my family. As a teenager with a narcissistic step parent, that promise held me back from learning to set healthy boundaries.
I remember growing up occasionally hearing about a patriarchal blessing or baby blessing that promises someone will live to see the second coming. As a TBM, I was never sure how much to trust those. About 10 years ago, I was present for a baby blessing which included the promise of living on earth until the second coming.

We were present for one of our son’s blessings, and the patriarch stated he was to marry a woman from the tribe of Dan…..Dan. Well that was heartbreaking to see him over the years stress over finding a girl who was from the tribe of Dan. I tried to explain to him that it wasn’t etched in stone and he will know when he falls in love with a girl and wants to marry her….not needing to check a box on lineage. My children are pretty literal in their interpretation of things and it never helped when it came to the church…..you can question deity but never question “prophetic” statements made by men. 🙄

@@MrRaythMandblues it was very awkward for him…..for a time he chose to not pursue serious relationships with some girls simply because they weren’t from the tribe dictated in his blessing….we hoped he wasn’t pitching that question to them during a date. I knew a patriarch that took over a year to finish up editing blessings he had given. Amazing isn’t it? To believe that one church has the authority to speak for God. How presumptuous. How evil it is to make a person think he’s in the path that leads to heaven when there’s overwhelming evidence to the contrary. If only Mormon members would do the research necessary to find the truth of it all. The facts are out there…they just need a reason to pursue it all.

I had “you will be a leader of women” which feels like a safe thing to say in all girl’s blessings because they can only ever be in callings with women, so eventually they will have something like that. Not like they could say you will be a leader of men or an apostle or anything like that.

I've always thought patriarchal blessings were among the less innocuous of LDS traditions. But yours and the ones above help me see PBs are another glue holding people to the cult. My blessing was 95% useless. The only line with any relevance was, "If you will be humble, you will be privileged to associate with people of many backgrounds," which I'd have done anyhow. And I'm not humble.
I have to add a caveat, however: With many people, I'm sort of New Age spiritualist. That is, I accept the human power to commune with God / the Universal Mind and that billions of people do this every day. Further, my first experience with such communion was upon getting my PB at age 14. So I don't fully rule out that even a Mormon patriarch can have a spiritual gift. The quality must vary from man to man, with many having no gift at all. (BTW it was my guides who showed me that temple rituals have little or nothing to do with true religion and who didn't discourage me from leaving the church. I guess they aren't Mormons.)

That's a whole bunch of rules given to someone who is receiving words from God. So, if God has a lot to say, is the patriarch supposed to tell God to stop? Or does he just stop recording around the 2 page make and let God keep rambling until He realizes that he's been cut off?
And if the lineages are mixed, do they just declare the predominant one? And wouldn't everyone's spiritual lineages just be through God? So are these physical lineages? In which case, families should be the same.
