"Andrew began dating a woman" uh oh "he began harassing her" oooh boy "the night of the School shooting" well that escalated faster than i thought it would
@Ash Kitt This was nothing like Dylan and Eric, dude. Dylan and Eric did what they did because they felt like and were treated like outcasts and were bullied. They didn't have a huge ego like Andrew, and it didn't sound like Andrew was bullied or was treated like an outcast in this video. Quite the opposite. The only thing that would make it similar is whatever mental illness Andrew and Dylan+Eric seemingly had.

@Im about to disapear Lol looks like someone else is lying a lot and beating around the bush about who are the anti-feminist gamers, the left wingers or the right wingers.
@Im about to disapear Women encroaching on the male safespace of gamer subculture is a typical right wing gamer argument. I base my conclusions about what political leaning someone has on his words and actions, not on where he came from or on what forum he operates. TH-cam for instance is a right wing shithole, but that doesn't make me a right winger.
@Im about to disapear The nazis, other right wing extremists and fringe lunatics were silenced on TH-cam, that's correct. Being right wing doesn't automatically make you a nazi though in my opinion, but I guess you're the kind of right winger that *does* feel related to them. If the right's claim that the left is bowing to Islam has merit, then the left's claim that the right is bowing to fascism also has merit for the same reason (they're not condemning every right wing terrorist act but defending the rights of the right wing terrorists instead, so what way you want it?)
I can't believe Melissa got all that "fake gamer girl" crap thrown at her. She seems WAY more knowledgeable/professional than any of the other memebers. The way she slayed Taiko Drum? Skillful.
The simple utterance of the words "Japanese Imports" was enough to convince me that she knew her shit. Like I'm pretty big into gaming and even I don't really mess with japanese imports.
They were really a cartoon looking group. Got the tall big one, the lanky skinny one, and the short rounder one calling the shots. I'd say it's the 3 stooges but it's more Ed, Edd and Eddy
"The rudimentary format of the show hit viewers with a 'Hey, I could do this' vibe." And that is why early TH-cam was saturated with terrible videos about video games and other media. "If these losers can get popular making terrible videos, why can't I?"
@ghostbusters remake Kids were STARVED for gamer content. And adults thought the show was hilarious. I was a teenager back then and just kind of ignored it.
Yeah, you'd be lucky if you had an hour a week on TV for game stuff. Even then it'd be Andy Crane or some failed London models trying to act down with the kids.
I always thought it was weird that people gave Melissa shit and implied she wasn't a "real" gamer despite the fact that her production values far surpassed anything that literally anyone else on the show did, plus it seemed like she was better at games too.
I think it's this cultural thing where insecure dudes pull a "sour grapes" after subconsciously trying to reconcile their attraction the the lady gamer and the inescapable realization that they have zero chance with them - so they just go on the offensive. Pretty weak sauce.
People tell themselves that liking games is the reason they cant get a date bc girls "dont understand", and cant cope with themselves if they admit theres cute girls that do like games.
@@DaxOrien I'm glad that you and your friends treat female gamers equally. However, a lot of female gamers do get treated poorly in the gaming community, and just because you haven't personally done it or witnessed it doesn't mean it's not a real problem.
Watch out everybody there's a Nice Guy here ready get super indignant at anyone suggesting rape and death threats sent to women from angry gamer dweebs may suggest a misogyny problem because... let's see here...*real* gamer girls can handle it.
Melissa seems like she was a very hardcore gamer, simply because no one would import a game like Taiko just on a whim. Also...Fredrik, Larry, y'all both rock!
That was literally my first thought too. It makes zero sense to believe that she couldn't be taken seriously. I didn't watch these guys during the young online gaming show days but she probably would've been one of those I would've watched. Right now Pushing Up Roses gets a good portion of my attention for "girl" reviewers. I hesitate to put GIRL in front of that because to me, she's just a reviewer. One who does a lot of point and click stuff lol
She was literally the only one who had any idea what she was doing. Geoff gets a pass because of how young he was at the time, but the other guys were handily put to shame by how much better her production and presentation were. Plus being good at Taiko no Tetsujin is always a plus. It just goes to show you that the misogyny problem has always been there. She was getting death threats just for being there, and that horrible post that was read off wasn't that much different than what you'd see someone ranting on /v/.
@@JackgarPrime It's not a misogyny problem: it's an asshole problem. Stop using buzzwords in place of the truth. The fact of the matter is most of the people who go "you're a fag" or "girls are only for slut use" are saying it to push a button, not because they really think a person is a whore or gay. And if you don't think that's true, you must be new here.
@@ChristieBrewster Yeah, you absolutely can be a misogynist and be a button pusher, but the likelihood of that being the majority is slim. You're more likely to find a little shit talker or edge lord causing trouble than someone who genuinely thinks women are inferior. The gaming community, overall, is very accepting of anyone these days. Even in the basement days of D&D and Atari, women weren't really excluded. It's like the saying goes, the loudest don't necessarily represent the quietest.
Kind of a shame that Melissa seemed to vanish off the face of the internet, her content looked pretty well-polished for that period of internet video content. Imagine what she might be doing had she continued on that path? Also, from what I'm seeing here, I'm kinda jealous of her rhythm game skills.
She wasn't the best but definitely good enough to play some of the songs in the highest difficutly in the modern arcade version of the game even with the huge increase in difficulty (I am not the best either but I played Taiko frequently enough to distinguish casuals, the intermediates and the gods)
@@genericgorilla It doesn't help when they region locked the game to be released only in the asian region. Some songs are only avaliable in the Japanese arcade cabinets like songs from Nintendo games or songs from copyrighted products in Japan. For somebody not in Japan (even for somebody like me who lived in Asia) is almost impossible to enjoy the full Taiko exprience.
Yeah. I'm actually unsure of why Andrew, who was frustrated by not understanding production techniques, didn't just ask her to take charge of production. Part of running a show/business is understanding when to delegate a position to someone that is more qualified. She either knew exactly what she was doing in terms of production, or like people rumored, was getting help from her boyfriend. Either way you look at it, she had something incredible to offer to the show in terms of polish and they should have leveraged that. Being unable to set his ego aside really was the downfall of this show. I'm sure that being a part of the show, particularly if he stood up for her, she would have been willing to either share her techniques to help grow their show or to take on a larger role as someone in charge of production.
Because it wasnt some big company or studio looking for profit out of a new trend, it was literally people like you and me playing videogames. That was the appeal, that it felt real
At this time basically no one knew anything about editing, filming, etc. So it was more the fact that the guys just went for it that got them attention, clearly it didn't last.
@@Space_Ghost_Hunter It's not like they were the first ones to make shitty low quality videos. There was plenty of them in every genre back then. Not sure how that's appealing to anyone anyway. It's not just low production values, it's garbage content.
@@iunnox666 Around this time a channel called G4 tv was where most people got gaming content, on television. So gaming shows like this were in high demand, and often emulated the G4 content. So in effect this guys just hit a jetstream on timing but it was never gonna last long. Their fanbase was mostly kids and home stuck antisocials its not like they had huge national appeal.
@@iunnox666 I also remember low quality channels having a sort of charm, like the people were just talking to you, as a 14 year old that made them pretty cool. If only Melissa had started her career with anyone else shed probably be successful today, she’d probably been more successful partnering with Avgn channel
Whoa. I was at E3 2006 and remember seeing these guys there. I had no idea who they were, until seeing this video. Crazy to think that was 12 years ago.
14? 3 of them looked like they were about to barely start high school, or just finish middle school, or at best, audition for roles in a rejected/failed live action "Ed, Edd 'N Eddy" movie somewhere that was cancelled, or something!
The difference between AVGN and the knockoffs is that james rolf is actually a really chill mature dude IRL while those guys are just genuine whiny assholes
Mmhmm. James has been accused of "phoning in the rage" in some of his videos for that very reason. For him, it's a genuine performance, acting. In some instances he's "recounting" frustration he had as a child, but that's all he's doing. I'd also say I think it's inaccurate to say they "went" insane. They probably already were, just hiding it.
The more I watch these types of content creators implode, the more respect I have for James Rolfe. He's kept it real for all these years and never let it get to his head, and he's still going strong. Be more like James, everybody.
He's still super popular to. Had a chance to see him at Pax East and only expected to see the 30+ crowd lining up to see him. However unless you lined up an hour early it was already full. I was shocked.
+Forever Fox He's still not completely keeping it real, even if only on a technicality. Furthermore, professionals can suffer from egos, mental disorders, and mental illnesses.
@@SirBlackReeds He's actually more professional and less egotistical outside of the character than when playing It, so I doubt he'll implode anytime soon.
"Hi welcome to the premiere episode of GameLife, the show where you can get your daily dose of gaming goodness. Good thing he was completely helpless and too stupid to ever pull anything off.
Melissa seemed genuine. She wore modest clothing and wasn't in positons to show off either. She focused on the game screen when she could, like when she played the drum and when she presented the DS footage. So I don't think she was doing it for an ulterior motive.
GameLife is one of the earliest cases of a TH-camr's ego causing their downfall. A guy like PewDiePie would be a D-list celebrity on a good day, and you don't even have that level of name recognition. Sit your ass down.
A guy with a budget of shoe strings and taco meat really shouldn't have a huge ego like that. Like, had AVGN gone full big-head mode it would have been notable, but it's always the Shoenices, the DarksydePhil's and this fucking guy of TH-cam that get the monster egos.
except this was normal back then. Going viral was a new thing, no one knew its going to come and pass. When you get picked up by mtv, which wasnt the trash no one cares about it is today, you would think you are the hottest shit around. There just was no cautionary tale similar to gamelife that they could have taken a lesson from.
Sarsona _ Neogaf was a den of vileness and hate. Good riddance it got a good purge after its owners were found to be sex offenders - but now all its leftover negativity took the form of Resetera
@Mac Matheson well if incels existed back then (the culture I mean) she would be called a "femoid" being manipulated by "Chad" to get all the money from the "simps".
I genuinely feel for Melissa. I don't know her, obviously, but she seems to have carried a genuine spark for what she was doing. Hope she's leading a happy life. ^^
Because even though there are a small number of genuinely sexist people out there, they seem to scream loud and often enough to create an illusion that there opinions are actually relevant.
our generation is so fortunate to have this new wave of internet journalists/investigative reporters such a Fredrik Knudsen, ScareTheater, Barely Sociable, etc. seriously, shout out to yall for doing your thing and keeping journalism alive in the digital age!
Hiring a woman who immediately does the only competent work & then getting insanely angry at her for having a boyfriend would've been the most gamer shit I've ever seen...if the main gamer guy hadn't gone completely off the rails & threatened to shoot up a school after 3 dates.
As a content creator, I love hearing stories like these, and I try to learn from them. With better resources and more time, this show could have been even bigger than it was. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. Also reading that stuff people wrote about Melissa made me physically cringe.
Sonic oc's. Sonichu, pokemon. Voice acting, merch and other weaboo type stuff.. i mean if that's the hill you want to make your last stand on, and claim that as some sort of occupation, be my guest. You will have to understand that it comes with that criticism, and lastly, bringing attention to yourself like so is just weird. *I'm not nice, I'm not kind* But even I wouldn't let myself get upset over this, so I opted for a very firm criticism instead.
I was part of this saga. I was one of the "guest" reviewers (episode 3 I think) who was asked to become a permanent host afterwards because of people loving my segment. I was a close friend of Geoff at the time, but this was about when Andrew's ego started blowing up. Seeing first hand his out of touch mindset about the show definitely made me back out immediately and wish them the best. Still worked with Geoff in his own satire of Gamelife, Freezecracker. Seeing this featured on a channel like this was surreal, but I'm hurt that my teenage self wasn't featured in the video.
@Savage Cabbage I mean, you could at least bring up some explanation on what you mean rather than "Oh you can't understand because you might also have a big ego." Hell, saying that gives the impression that YOU are on some sort of high horse.
@Savage Cabbage I assume ANYONE with a TH-cam channel of any kind is a hardcore narcissist. I can't imagine ever putting myself online, and expecting anyone to watch it, much less be entertained, informed, whatever. In my field - writing - it's pretty bad too. I do a lot of editing and technical writing and anyone who can string a sentence together nowadays considers themselves top notch writers, and everyone should read their shit twice, and nobody should ever edit it, because they're so talented and their ideas have global significance. Then academia, oh my god, don't get me started on those precious freaks. Pretty much everyone under the age of 40 I guess - just insane selfie taking narcissistic powderkegs ready to explode if you don't immediately and slavishly appreciate their unique genius.

13:09 Holy moly! That looks like Sonic '06 in the background, and it's being presented at E3! Not surprisingly, the demo itself appears to be glitching.
Light Hero Fun fact about that: Sega had to restart the project twice because one time they lost all of their progress, and the second time their build was so glitchy that they had to go back to an older, more stable build. This is why the demo is better than the game probably.
Please Fredrik, don't become like any of these TH-cam egotists. If you do who will make a Down The Rabbit Hole episode about you? Great video as always mate.
15:26 As a gamer who play both the acrade and console versions of Taiko very frequently, her skills are not bad at all, even with the drastic increase in difficulty in the modern arcade versions she can definitely still clear some songs on Oni difficulty (the difficulty she is playing in the clip) without too much difficulty.
It strikes me as funny that the one person who was able to flip Gamelife into a real career path in the game industry was the youngest member who was known as the "crazy guy" or even comedic relief.
Yeah what the fuck, I heard that and had to do a double take that it wasn't quoting an article from the time or something like that. It's fucking gross. Guess no matter where you go, gaming youtubers from the 00s are always gonna be sex pests in some way or another.
Guru Larry (probably?) unwittingly recreating the exact same sort of mid 2000s gamer sexism that lead to Melissa being insulted and threatened is ironically poetic.
Recording the screen is obvious. It's been donee before. It's redundant. I wanna see how you play the game.. as in... how your thumbs play the game! Only true gamers know this... I cant keep this up for much longer 🤣🤣
that not a real gamer shit is just ridiculous, from the looks of it melissa had the most profesional looking footage yet she got most of the hate just becuase she was attractive so couldnt be a real gamer nonsense
Having higher production values doesn't equal to actually being passionate about something. WatchMojo's production values are pretty damn good, but they're also pretty damn soulless and only care about the money. So no, making more professional videos doesn't rule out the possibility of the creator being a "fake fan" at all.
theres no such thing as a fake fan imo, if your passionate about something your a fan, just becuase you dont know everything there is to know about it doesnt make you any less a fan
@@brandonwithnell612 I'm not talking about that though, I'm talking about the clickbait channels that have well-filmed, well-edited videos, but you can see that these videos aren't made by fans, because people basically just recite the Wikipedia page and sometimes even flat out steal text from already-existing small-time channels/websites without even sharing their honest opinion on the topic. This is being a "fake fan".
It's not that larry's voice is annoying or bad, it's just not suited for a very clinical, cut and dry show like down the rabbit hole. It's like if you got the micro machines guy to narrate march of the penguins
Yup, it'd be nice if some audio surgeon were to extirpate Guru's voice and put something else there. Literally anything, even a text to speech processor wouldn't as unfitting. edit: take the voice from the video, not from whoever Guru is
If I could get Guru Larry to narrate my orgasms, then narrated they would be. The dude has a voice that, for me, is infectiously delicious. Like candy-coated Herpes with sprinkles, except desirous. In my opinion, his voice is awesome and tends to work for everything if given the chance to try it. That's what I'm getting at here. I am not a man of flowery, flattering words no matter how I try. I think that fact may have made itself apparent already.

Yeah I agree that sort of stuff is way more interesting, and more fitting of the title of the series, but it is neat to go back to some stuff like this that's kind of been buried under the sands of Internet Time now and then.
I really liked the rat city one myself but youtube and internet culture ones are pretty cool too, good to find a balance after all. I think the furry one was a pretty interesting video kinda wish he went a bit more in depth with it and sorta talked about more modern stuff too.

Not because she's simply not attracted to him.
It sounded like Melissa knew how to present games, was always helpful, and never talked shit about anyone. Yet she took most of the criticism from the audience? I think I am missing something...
One thing that made Larry the Teflon Don of Channel Awesome when they went through their mess I never think of the Guru being on their platform, he's way to professional and has a style of his own thats not just a copy paste format like others.

Seriously, this is all baffling to me. Like I'm interested in hearing the entire history that's going on here, but by halfway through this video my brain was still stuck at the part where this became popular in the first place. I kept expecting an explanation or for them to elaborate at least somewhat on why they took off at all. As pointed out, AVGN and ScrewAttack were already a thing at this point so it's not like there was NO OTHER gaming-related content on the internet. I'd like to think even at the time I'd have better taste than that, but maybe I wouldn't have...
man, i remember when this was new and was just as befuddled by its popularity then as now. you can have bad production values and still be ok, but how a show without a single charismatic host was ever popular is beyond me.

Dax Orien This comment fucking reeks of stale Doritos
@@DaxOrien I'm glad that you and your friends treat female gamers equally. However, a lot of female gamers do get treated poorly in the gaming community, and just because you haven't personally done it or witnessed it doesn't mean it's not a real problem.

@@DaxOrien Sadly, I agree.
Internet was, and is, like that.
@@ChristieBrewster Yeah, you absolutely can be a misogynist and be a button pusher, but the likelihood of that being the majority is slim. You're more likely to find a little shit talker or edge lord causing trouble than someone who genuinely thinks women are inferior.
There has never been that much coverage for rhythm games online and taiko no tatsujin is actually real connoisseur shit, so it's a damn shame really.
Singapore has some Taiko no Tatsujin arcade machine though. If you live here.

Wait, I thought that was Morgan Freeman’s job.
It's nice to know that Geoff is doing well, he's a certified good boy. I hope Melissa's doing well too.
Same to
He sent porn and real life gore and mutilation imagery to kids. He's no hero.

it’s cool covering former youtube personalities, and i like them from time to time, and i also recognize that they’re substantially easier to make down the rabbit holes of, but boy oh boy when you do real life stuff, like time cube, or Henry Darger? that’s some of your best work right there
Yeah I agree that sort of stuff is way more interesting, and more fitting of the title of the series, but it is neat to go back to some stuff like this that's kind of been buried under the sands of Internet Time now and then.
My favorite is the one about the hoarder brothers. I need more of these.
I really liked the rat city one myself but youtube and internet culture ones are pretty cool too, good to find a balance after all. I think the furry one was a pretty interesting video kinda wish he went a bit more in depth with it and sorta talked about more modern stuff too.
That Guru voice tho. I don't know what it is but I dislike it with passion.
Personally I like any of his content that weirds me out or disturbs me, especially if it's not something I've heard about before. Like the Mouse Utopia experiment or Henry Darger.
You forgot to mention Alex's untimely passing due to third degree bowl cuts.
You saw the original :D
We really do live in a society....
This says alot about our society...think about it...

It really do be like that sometimes...

Now yuo see...
"It's girls like her who make true gamer girls keep their interests in the closet"
No it's fucking not. It's guys like that, constantly trying to de-legitimise gamer girls because they threaten their preconceived notion that attractive, nice girls don't like them because they don't share their interests and hobbies. Not because she's simply not attracted to him.
It sounded like Melissa knew how to present games, was always helpful, and never talked shit about anyone. Yet she took most of the criticism from the audience? I think I am missing something...
You wouldnt believe it how the same people that trashed Melissa were complently silent on the whole ''the dude that send death threats to his ex''
It's because she's a woman and the "NO GRILZ ALLOWED" club didn't like that.
Yeah, you missed the hole between her legs.
DrTheKay she was presenting video games. Whats your reasoning?
I N C E L S
Channel Awesome Hunger Games Survivor Guru Larry is one of my favorite TH-camrs, and so is Fredrik Knudsen.
One thing that made Larry the Teflon Don of Channel Awesome when they went through their mess I never think of the Guru being on their platform, he's way to professional and has a style of his own thats not just a copy paste format like others.
Yeah Larry is way too talented for CA.
I'm the last person to ever white knight for women but Melissa was definitely not fake. Nobody would buy all these JAPANESE games and play them to play pretend.
Its like buying a real lamborghini just so you can pretend you love cars
Anita Sarkeesian bought hundreds of games just to bitch about them and push her stupid feminist shit.
or actually get pretty decent at taiko either
ezekiel, i noticed this show seems to be made up of your co-ethnics
@@blacksunempire2878 Wew lad so edgy
Clearly didn't watch her videos tho, because she literally says you can enjoy games even if you have problems with them.
Lmao, imagine rejecting screwattack in their infancy because they “weren’t popular enough”.
That’s some Yahoo refusing to buy Google shit
And Beatles being rejected by Decca :)
As for ScrewAttack, they don't exist anymore. The only thing ScrewAttack related now is Death Battle
What Andrew did is straight up terrifying, idk why but that part just hit me hard.
The way Fredrik brought it up was really sudden and jarring, probably because that's how it was for a lot of viewers at the time, and maybe even the other hosts.
Its fucked man, and honestly I don't think Grularry should have been joking about it being a plot by Craig from screw attack. I could see people taking that seriously.
melissa's materail looked really good. especailly that taiko drum game. sounds cool to play.
I dont get how these guys got popular. They're so uncomfortable to watch
Matt Killam Standards we're low on youtube
They were one of the first gaming videos on TH-cam
In a desert, even the smallest glass of water is a blessing. Think of it in that sort of term.
to be fair, asides from avgn and a few others, most gaming youtubers were pretty uncomfortable to watch nowadays.
People probably found humor in the aquardness of the video production.
15:00 Oh my god, shock, horror, theres a whole investigation because people suspect that Melissa was with a guy and that guy could be her boyfriend? And, if it is, then she's just 'riding an internet fad' and a 'fake gamer girl' and shit?? So she's not allowed to have a boyfriend without accusation of being a dirty mooch thats pretending to be a "hot chick that plays video games" (ignoring that she's genuinely reviewing them), god forbid that a feemale has intrapersonal relations, right?
I bet Andrew never got death threats when he got a girlfriend/started dating :|
It's clearly a posed photo though, possibly either amateur modeling or just to show off her costume/zombie makeup. But insecure little boys seem to think that being photographed with the opposite sex automatically implies a sexual relationship.
"These online resources were known for their amateur production value"
*shows image of Kotaku*
Nothing has changed it seems
it went from aids to cancer, progression of gaming journalism!
@dayzgone Why do you feel the need to defend Kotaku so much?
Firegem Because it's still light years ahead of OneAngryGamer.
Shit being lightyears ahead of other shit doesn't make it better. :^/
@dayzgone Great rebuttal! You must be in a debate team!
So surreal to see a Neogaf poster typing something like that and not being banned lol
now im thinking about that JPEGMAFIA song
Guru Larry is TH-cam's Troy McClure
these guys said no to screwattack because screwattack is not big enough for them yet james rolfe (avgn) who was massive at the time with insane quality is the most humble man alive and said yes on a handshake deal. it all worked out since james rolfe and screwattack helped each other grow and both moved onto gametrailers with a real job deal.
Please do more psychology stuff...As a psychology graduate i really find the mouse utopia of Dr.Calhuon interesting.
I know. I was fascinated that the rats of NIMH was a real thing!
That episode melted my face.
You may remember me from such films as...
Oh my god! It’s the winner of the channel awesome hunger games!
Someone should hug Melissa. She did NOT deserve that.
Ok i hug Melissa
15:05 yes because a conventionally attractive woman can't just, you know, like video games
They can't. It's biologically impossible.
I’m physically blind now because my eyes got stuck from rolling too hard when that came up.
I used to think that but there are a lot of pretty women who are legit gamers
I like how out of all of them, her audition had the most professional appearance, and she's also the only one who seems to be able to string a fucking sentence together.
@@titusgamedromedon4994 this , she had a very good, well spoken and professional video.
I totally didn’t make the connection of Geoff being fuckin GeoffTheHero lmao I’ve been subbed to him for years and had no clue about this
Same here! That was hilarious lol
Holy shit i thought he was familiar. Love that troll.
He's come a long way from GameLife, now he's teabagging DSP
Its hard for me to comprehend that these guys were being sincere. They weren't doing some Tim and Eric esque meta critique of poorly socialized gamers they were just really like that...
It's sad if you think about it.
Larry said Andrew got married last year. And Geoff seems like he's doing ok. So maybe it got better.
The clips from the first episode seem like a brilliant piece of satire, like an Adult Swim sketch of a low budget show.
man, i remember when this was new and was just as befuddled by its popularity then as now. you can have bad production values and still be ok, but how a show without a single charismatic host was ever popular is beyond me.
Matt Gallagher at the time there was barley any video game shows online. If they started a few years later they wouldn’t get anywhere due to saturation

I mean, most of the main lesson here is; if you’re in the public eye, don’t harass your ex and threaten to bring a gun to their school :/
Edit: you probably shouldn’t do that even if you’re not in the public eye by the way...
Ok
poor melissa. i hope things are better for her now. im sure they are. seems she already had her shit together even back then.
"College aged friends." And I thought *I* had a babyface.
I forgot about Gamelife!
Edit: Goddamn, that took a dark turn. I never heard why they stopped making videos until now.
Yeah that escalated quickly, didn't it? One second it's like "Oh look at these extremely amateur guys who managed to still find some fame in the early days of TH-cam." to "Oh god what is wrong with this guy?!" in a sudden turn, with a couple stops in "People on the internet have been unfairly shitty to female content creators (even ones that were significantly better than her male co-workers) since the early days" territory.
Just about everyone forgot about Gamelife.
Hell, I forgot about Dre.
If you think an episode of Down The Rabbit Hole has a happy ending, you haven’t been paying attention.
KingOfGreyfell Nope, I didn’t think that at all. I’ve seen enough Down The Rabbit Hole episodes to know something bad was gonna happen.
Aw, MAN! When Larry said "I welcome you to Down the Rabbit Hole" I was expecting to hear the end of the Daytona USA menu theme like in his Fact Hunt videos...
same
@@motxmod Eh, but with it not being his i can see why it didnt happen.
I was honestly expecting some kind of Peter Molyneux joke somewhere too.
Never expected a Down The Rabbit Hole to come this early. Thanks for making my day
Early? It was like 2 months since the last one.
@@puffnisse that is early for this show
Sure but when I come early people get angry
This was the most popular gaming channel on TH-cam?
2006 TH-cam must've had a dearth of game related content.
let me put it this way. what you know as the current gaming side of youtube did not start till 2008.
2006 youtube gaming would often be made by pointing a camera at your TV screen, or UNREGISTERED HYPERCAM 2 in the top left corner of Runescape Videos
@@TheMasterTelevision There were also the "Best Halo 2 Kills" montage videos with Breaking Benjamin/Linkin Park/Hollywood Undead blaring in the background
Oh I remember when they'd be showing you how to do an exploit and tab out into wordpad to type out the next series of instructions. Paralyzer by finger 11 and wake me up...
It was a different time.
I remember when the first "lets play" videos came out. People dont give Minecraft the credit it deserves for completely and radically changing the landscape of video game media.
It went from COD highlights with no commentary and shit music that people would complain about in the comments to people making a living streaming in under a decade. Shit TH-cam pre monetization was a different beast entirely. Even if you were the most popular youtuber you still werent making anything from it. Now its a career where people play the algorithms to get more views on their videos.
