I’m going to assume that’s where my 15/14 Ruby Red model came from, several years back. Beautiful instrument. 🩷
I remember the first time I heard a hammered dulcimer, I was awestruck. I don’t remember who played it, or where they played it, but I remember being in a big hallway and the sound filled the whole building with such beauty. I’ve been obsessed with the instrument ever since.
isaiah huerta That’s awesome to hear, Isaiah! Thanks for watching and subscribing :) Stay in touch!
Absolutely gorgeous!!
Looking forward to hearing more.
Really outstanding! What a magnificent instrument! Thank you for sharing this! Oh how we all look to hear future great music with this fine instrument! Wow!
Thank you, Ross! It's exciting!! :-)
I just listened to you play this instrument on the WhiteHorseLive concert & couldn't believe HOW pure it sounds. And you made it sound glorious! Your playing is truly gift-giving! After your concert, I felt like I'd been given a lovely gift! Thank you so much!
Thanks for this thoughtful comment, Peg. I am glad the music touched your soul in a meaningful way. I hope to see you again, soon! Yours, Joshua
So your telling me the instrument I’ve been looking for as a film piece has a shop in my home state! Here of all places.
Bennington, Oklahoma! :) Glad you found my channel. Thanks for the comment, and good luck on your film piece.
@@JoshuaMessick Holy cow this is ironic. One of the few videos I could find on hammered dulcimer was signing the praises of Joshua messick being the best. Come to find out your hanging around a stones throw away. The music is pretty import to film and only a dulcimer will do. If master works is open for visit i Might need to come by even just to hear what one sounds like in person. This is wild.
Just to be clear: I actually live in Colorado, but Russell and Master Works are based in Oklahoma :)
@@JoshuaMessick No sweat. I just think its cool you know what Oklahoma is. I'm sure someone at Master Works would be more than able to help me out. Its just a serendipities day. Thanks for the video.
@@TheGalacticWest Super! I am a Master Works representative, so if you’re interested in buying one I can help you. Just get in touch with me at JoshuaMessick.com. If you would rather visit in person, be sure to tell them Joshua sent you.
When you demonstrated the high register, I immediately thought of Patrick Ball's brass-strung harp.
The sound is very similar, and, of course, beautiful.
I traveled to Master Works from Texas some years ago and ended up buying a McSpadden mountain dulcimer as the hammered dulcimers were out of my price range at the time. Russell is an incredible guy!
Squandered Gallantry Russell is the best! Hope you’re enjoying the mountain dulcimer. Thanks for watching! Please stay connected, ok? JoshuaMessick.com
Wow MasterWork⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great design all around!

Amazing
Thank you, Joel! It is a true joy to play this instrument! Keep up the great work composing music -- I am excited to hear your next project ;-)

You're welcome ☺️
I'm definately interested in this instrument
Hi Bob! I somehow missed this comment -- super sorry. Are you still interested in this instrument? If so, get in touch with me at JoshuaMessick.com -- I'm here to help!
Joshua - I worked as stage manager at Winfield for 11 festivals. I am sure I met Russell who commented on my being a fellow redhead (now I am very white). I wanted a hammered dulcimer so much, so now more than 30 years later, you and Russell have me all jazzed up again. I am getting close to making the commitment to purchase a dulcimer and focus on learning how to play it. Thank you both for giving me encouragement. - Cathy Ratzloff
Cathy, That is awesome to hear! I've been to Winfield many times, and I even performer there twice. It was an amazing experience. When you're ready to order, please contact me at JoshuaMessick.com -- I'll be glad to help you out.
@@JoshuaMessick thank you I will do that. I bet that when I was there, you were still an infant. I ordered one of your Christmas CDs today. I am going to try to catch up on those years I 've missed of Walnut Valley.
Hi Joshua I heard you mention in this video about the Joshua Messick Artisan Series. I didn’t see any models in this series on the Masterworks website. Are you still moving forward with this project. Also, have you ever thought about starting a Hammer Dulcimer school where students can learn from pre-recorded videos? I would definitely be interested if you ever decided to do that ! Thanks for creating so much beautiful music! You have a true heart of a musician!! 😊
Hey Will! The artisan "Joshua Messick" is available for custom order exclusively through me. Please reach out to me at JoshuaMessick.com. Here is the instrument: th-cam.com/video/PMPFaKpF1SM/w-d-xo.html
If you decide to order, I'd appreciate the business! Thank you :)
You know so I somehow stumbled across woodland dance and I have to say for as much dumb stuff as there is online, I am so happy I came across you and the hammer dulcimer, now just working my get one but thanks for showing me a new instrument, I own a mountain dulcimer and I was in the dark about this instrument, and from the first cord I know it is meant for me kinda Like how the ukulele makes me feel but times 10
Devin Verizzo Thank you, Devin! I am so happy you found my little corner on TH-cam. Enjoy your mountain dulcimer, and I look forward to hearing when you get a hammered dulcimer. Best, Joshua
Looking forward to Aiken SC in December. Will you have the Dulci-Forte for that concert?
M Rice Thanks, Maurice!! I look forward to it. Yes, I’ll have the instrument with me. I recorded my new Christmas album with it. The sound and instrument is complete - I am just working on finishing my “artist series” Joshua Messick design.
Hey Joshua! Very new to the dulcimer world, what a beautiful instrument. Have you ever played any cimbalom pieces (or any of the classical repertoire with cimbalom) on this dulcimer?
Thanks for watching, Aidan. The hammered dulcimer I play in the United States is very different when compared to the cimbalom: layout/configuration, tone, methods & musical cultures are all very different. Here is a video where I discuss the hammered dulcimer and similar instruments around the world. th-cam.com/video/Puz0nUu11p8/w-d-xo.html
