My next question for the vlogger was if he had tried NY Cantonese Chinese food. With NY the rent and overhead costs are so high. We have such incredible variety in Toronto here. Grew up on the east side of Toronto called Scarborough in the 1980s and my grandparents owned a hair salon in Chinatown. I was able to experience the great food of Chinatown downtown and then the emerging Chinese restaurant movement from Agincourt to Markham/Richmond Hill. I left Toronto to work in the US for 11 years and came back in my mid 30s. Even though my mom is from Shanghai, I had never truly experienced Northern Style Chinese food. That restaurant scene from A Christmas Story was actually filmed in Toronto (in Chinatown East on Gerrard Street). Not sure if it was a Chinese restaurant before but it’s now a French restaurant.
Toronto & GTA have the best Chinese food. So many immigrants from China that are doing the authentic dishes. Markham & Scarborough worth a visit for Asian cuisine.
Y'all need to hit up the West Coast(Vancouver)! Our Chinese food is the best! We also have a great diversity of other Asian cuisine! *Luv your vids, and your fam!
Awesome video you are so blessed to be able to travel with your beautiful family. Enjoy your grandparents they're epic to hang out with and to hear all their stories. Anyways enjoyed this video a lot , stay safe out there and have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas.
We drive up to Toronto 2 to 3 times a year just to have dim sum and Fisherman lobster house. The king crab is out of this world! We always get it steamed with garlic and vermicelli on the bottom.
I am totally not very experienced with this cuisine but lived in TO in the late 80s for a year when I went to college there. Local college students took me to plenty of chinese restaurants many times and showed me what to order. It was always amazing esp teh szechuan. Amazing. Years later I lived in Vancouver and could not find chinese food on that level I remembered in Toronto. Have never had it that good since. aywwhere.
I actually had the opposite experience. While Toronto has great Chinese food, I have always found Vancouver Chinese food to be even better quality and have more variety. That being said I still prefer Toronto as it has Vancouver beat on pretty much all non-Asian cuisines.
@@jakePark9333 A lot of Toronto cuisine incorporates a lot of fusion from various cultures because it's all so accusable here so some "traditional" dishes might be EXTRA good because of the availability of some other ingredients that might not be the norm for that dish. Even down to the legal standard of ingredients in foods keeps some things in a more natural ratio as apposed to our southern neighbors who use a lot of HFCS.
The game changed in the late 90s for Vancouver and Chinese cuisine. The mass immigration to BC from Hong Kong just before the handover of HK to China in 99 brought with them incredible new restaurants with top tier food! Give the current Chinese food scene in Vancouver another go!
FYI most amazing Chinese restaurants are in Markham, Richmond Hill and north Scarborough. They need to be recognized. It's no longer Chinatown. It's a city!
I love your family and especially Chinese Grandpa! Will have to visit Toronto just to do a food tour. Lobster tower looked amazing! If I’m ever in Boston will drop by Joyful Garden, apparently they have the best mai tai!
Glad you liked our food. We have the best authentic food from almost every country. Super diverse city. And thanks for pronouncing it properly and not like a tourist. Its Torano.
I love your grandpa !! What a strong and funny man :) Cheers from Montréal. Thank you very much for your tips regarding Toronto. Can't wait to go back there trying all that gorgeous food. I'm in the suburbe of Montréal now, and the asian food is sooooooo bad, with very few choices. It's really sad. I was working close to Chinatown in Montréal during 12 years. I eat A LOT of asian food there. I'm suffering to not be able to enjoy it anymore like I was. I envy you and your familly for those kind of culinary travel trips. I miss that soooo much. I was doing some with my ex, but we broken up recently. My burnout make me lost her. :( Anyway. Keep posting. There was a congee king. It was the brother of the owner of the congee queen which is the sister. Congee king was around way longer before congee queen. It finally closed down about a 2yrs ago n it smoked the congee queen stores. So yes the original store was the congee king. For decades it was around. And congee king was only one location btw. That tells u everything
Thank you for visiting us! Boston, y'all are awesome. I will never forget the chowder I'd get every summer we visited as a kid. So glad you enjoyed the food here!!! ❤
Hong Kong Bistro REPRESENT!!!!! Portuguese chicken, Tomato baked Pork Chop, Curry Beef brisket, and a little Eel Fried rice (sentiment comfort food)!! That place is amazing: food, soups, everything is tasty... a vibe!!!
Hello from Markham. First vid im watching of yours. Protect Grandpa and Grandma at all costs.....Grandpa funny as hell 😂😂. You made great choices when coming to Toronto / Markham !! Simu Liu also loves Fishermans Club Lobster house. Dim Sum every weekend is the thing up here glad you enjoyed it !!
Totally agree - Toronto dim sum is better than Boston dim sum. The dim sum pieces are larger in Toronto too. The quality difference is probably due to the concentration of Asians in Markham. Boston's Asian community is relatively small and many Asians are there for college and then they get out.
It’s safe to be Chinese or Asian in Canada Toronto, unlike in USA where everyone pick on Asians, there was a news of Asian old lady being set on fire by a black and a Latino dude in NYC
With all the crazy people in the world no one is really safe anywhere. You should never let your guard down when you’re out of your home. Never completely. There’s crappy people everywhere. And good ones, too. But you never have to worry about the good ones.
Looks like a calorie rich vacation. The dim sum place was tantalizing. Nice to see your family, especially Chinese Grandma (for longer than a split second)
We are the most diverse city in the world, we have the best choice for food in the world here, u can try everything from anywhere and it’s authentic to the culture and how it’s made, it’s just sad to see prices sky rocket and be every expensive
If u go to another HK cafe, order the iced coffee/tea mix - not as rich as the iced milk tea. Also, those fries are costco fries....cavendish crisp fries
so cute to see you enjoying our city and the algorithm sent me this! I always tell visitors that you can have literally any cuisine you want in toronto.... you also could've got oxtail pho at a bunch of viet spots if grama wanted! i'd say for real 85% of the restaurant scene is a banger, at any budget. lots of contemporary/modern, traditional, and international. whatever you want!
This video was awesome! It was great to watch. As someone who grew up in Markham, I had no idea I had it so good. I'm going to really appreciate the food next time I'm out. Also, Canada is also known to have the best lap cheong(Chinese sausage) for some reason. Literally every guest from China will always buy it when they visit, to take back.
first time on your channel, loved your Content, love your Paid actor family they are really great, was an amazing experience watching, i live in Mississauga, and dont have a chinese background so learning was nice. and its $23.35 after American to Canadian conversion at that lobster place
Fishman Lobster Clubhouse is legit. That soup and the beef dish were outstanding. Definitely the best Chinese meal I have had in my life to date. I really need to go back soon.
Thank you for visiting Canada, hope you had fun. As a home-sick Canadian living abroad, thanks. Come back. I think Chinatown in Vancouver has the best Chinese food.
I'm a Canadian who travels to Boston 5-6 times per year. To this date, I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant in the Boston area that is at least equivalent to those in the Toronto area. 🙁
York Region.. part of the G.T.A, . You gotta come up to Markham Ontario that's where rhe Chinese food is at ! We also have a Congee Queen here, too... check out Congee Wong in Richmond Hill, Ontario!!! They are good too but there is soo much Chinese food down in Markham. Next time you are around, check it out !!
Next time you’re in Toronto go to the Perfect Chinese Restaurant in Scarborough it’s on Sheppard Road and Brimley Road, it has one of the best dim sum and its open 24 hours
I remember when New Century Restaurant used to be called Noble House and i always wanted to go there because it was the only dimsum place that had a huge hall of arcade games. And i think the parents knew why i wanted to go to Noble House.
I think all the kids knew about the Noble House arcade! I think they had Gauntlet or Quartet? I know it was a 4-player game that was a quarter muncher for me there.
Your grandpa's damned cute on the road too! I love how some cha chan tengs (in Vancouver and Hong Kong) drag fries through corn starch before frying them. Hope more places copy this trick. Was surprised to see a "proper" restaurant do this too, and surprised to see that the lobster mountain even comes with fries. Been to Vancouver? If so, as a native Vancouverite, I'm a bit heartbroken by your verdict, but good for Toronto for having such excellent food available.
It used to be better than that. The lobster mountain used to come with these tiny fried fish, and it sounds weird, but they were better than the fries. And I like those fries.
Toronto has such a large asian community there are literally thousands of restaurants for every country......so glad the ones you went to you enjoyed, although you probably missed many that were better or equal....gotta love good food, and Canadians love their food!
lol there is a Congee King in Richmond (Vancouver suburb), wait it's Congee Noodle King. Does that mean King of Congee and Noodles? If you do ever do Vancouver, you'll like the Chinese food here. My fam in SF comes up here to eat. Lots of different styles of Chinese here as well. Come in the summer, the night market will also be open on the weekends then (though things are more expensive in the summer) otherwise bring an umbrella as it rains almost as much as Seattle. There are some pretty nifty fusion places as well. While most of the popular Chinese places are in Richmond now a days, old China Town still has some hold outs like Sun Fresh Bakery (great for cheap eats on the go like steam buns, congee, limited rice rolls), New Town Bakery (also does steam buns/baked buns and HK Cafe but it's not my fave tbh) - very popular with tourists so expect lines here vs Sun Fresh), The Boss (HK Cafe and bakery) and Kam Wai (take home frozen dim sum but you can eat dishes fresh there as well but not a lot of space to sit and eat). Burnaby also has some pretty good food in the Crystal Mall food court but it's a bit out of the way where as you can really get all you want in Richmond between the Chinese malls (Aberdeen, Parker Place, Pacific Place etc). Also try HK BBQ Master for BBQ Pork, Siu Yuk and Soy Chicken etc. My fam has been going there since the 90s and it's very popular now even after the original owner's son took over. You'll find a lot of good HK food since in the 90s a lot of ppl immigrated to Vancouver (trying to escape any fallout from Handover back in 96ish) and brought all the yummy food and excellent chefs as well :) I could probably canvas my family for their faves in the city as I can't tell you anything about crustaceans since I'm allergic (so sad). HK Cafe style food also good here too - sadly I only tried one place in Toronto so I can't give a full comparison but I preferred my fave places here over the one I tried there. If you do come to Vancouver/Richmond, you'll probably need more time for all the Chinese foods XD and also note a lot of places are cash only (some also do eInterac - not Venmo or CashApp cause it's not available in Canada). Your elderly fam will probably be pretty comfortable in Richmond as you don't need any English to get around either, and typically you will find someone anywhere in the city that speaks Cantonese or Mandarin if you end up in need of help for some reason.
I have travelled a lot. Over 50 countries and the best part of travel is the food. Now I’m not saying it can always rival its country of origin but Canadas blend of cultures has created an incredible food scene in almost every major city. Even the frozen city of Edmonton where I live, the food scene is second to none. Having eaten in restaurants in London, Paris, New York, at some of the top restaurants, I’m never that blown away as I can almost always get comparable in Edmonton.
First time seeing your videos. Love the overall presentation. Is Canadian Chinese food better than Boston? I mean, if you went to Montreal or Windsor or Edmonton you'd probably say "no". But you went to a metro area that is easily one of the three best spots in NA for Chinese food (if you want to say Vancouver or NYC is better... you're wrong, but it's not worth arguing over.). And I'd say that the Toronto area has the most diverse assortment of ethnic foods outside of NYC. Anyway, you would not go wrong with either BBQ restaurant in First Markham. I prefer Extra (aka the one on the right) but HK's (aka the one on the left) is also very good, and I think actually has the better roast pig. But you basically go to these places for the duck, roast pig or char siu. Sad no one got iced lemon tea (dong ling cha) at the cha chaan teng. That's usually the best iced option. Glad you enjoyed your Toronto food trip. Hopefully you come back and try other places.
When I worked in Markham we used to get take out from first Markham place food court for lunch all the time. They had amazing beef in black bean sauce with flat rice noodles.
Amazing video with great vibes! I'm going to hit these places up. Coming to Toronto seems like it was good for your channel too. Canadians love TH-cam and food. I hope you prosper from your effort! Subbed up
Next time got to Fancy in Markham instead of new Century. Won Ton Big Trio in Richman’s Hill, and the Best bbq joint in the Hill, maybe I can’t mention that one yet 😉 Probably your viewers know
First video of yours I’ve seen. You got a new subscriber! Love the vibe, keep it up. I grew up in Toronto. Now live 40 mins away. Chinatown is like home to me. I miss it and wish I could eat more food because there way too many good spots
Y’all f’d up for not going to skyview fusion for its open fire charsiu which is arguably not just the best charsiu in Canada but in the world. Definitely stacks up well against any Michelin starred ones in HK.
I need daily rice rolls in my life. Beef, pork, shrimp, whatever - I just need that texture and sweet soy sauce on the regular. Also, China Pearl needs to reopen already.
Your from Boston and freight for local lobster is a hell of a lot less than in Toronto it’s shipped from east coast. You also have the advantage of the US dollar and the prices for that lobster in that restaurant is in canadian dollars. Lots of factors in food cost aren’t there? Great content and loved the video!

Just so you know $25 a pound USD when you do the conversion works out the $34 a pound CAD!
the difference is at 32 CAD per pound, it comes with all other dishes already like soup, veggies
I commented the same for all the American viewers $100 CAD is only about $72 USD so our food prices are actually pretty good for a big city.
The best about the videos is not the food but the beautiful relationship between you and Grandpa.
That restaurant scene from A Christmas Story was actually filmed in Toronto (in Chinatown East on Gerrard Street). Not sure if it was a Chinese restaurant before but it’s now a French restaurant.
I love these videos. What a beautiful family. Grandpa is adorable. You are all lovely and fun to watch.
Welcome to Toronto! I'm so glad you enjoyed it here and I hope you come back again to check out some other places and ethnic foods as well.
You guys are welcome back any time!!! Toronto loves our tourists and you guys were seriously entertaining!
I'm an English guy but now in Ontario, Canada . I live 40 minutes away from Toronto. I know the Chinese food is amazing there !! Great video 😊😊
Everybody should try Jumbo Lobster once in life.
With Toronto traffic nowadays, 40 minutes from Toronto is still Toronto 😅
Never seen this channel before. Fun AF. Love the family!
I had the best Chinese meal of my life in Markham :)
I love your grandpa so much ❤ first time viewer, from guelph ontario
Your grandpa is the best. He’s so cute and funny!!!
Your family is hilarious. You guys obviously always have fun together. Love your grandpa, star of the episode
Awesome video you are so blessed to be able to travel with your beautiful family. Enjoy your grandparents they're epic to hang out with and to hear all their stories. Anyways enjoyed this video a lot , stay safe out there and have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas.
love the connection you have with your grandpa
We drive up to Toronto 2 to 3 times a year just to have dim sum and Fisherman lobster house. The king crab is out of this world! We always get it steamed with garlic and vermicelli on the bottom.
Lots of love to grandpa, he knows the good stuff... - Torontonian here!
The relationship you have with gramps is so precious. Reminded me of mine ❤
FYI most amazing Chinese restaurants are in Markham, Richmond Hill and north Scarborough. They need to be recognized. It's no longer Chinatown. It's a city!
I use to eat there😂 I always use to drive to scarborough/markham for food.
The flavors are out of his world. You forgot pacific mall💯
I was wondering if they'd got o Pacific Mall. Oh well.
I love seeing your grannies, mom, and pop. It reMinds me of sweet memories of my family ❤.
Love your relationship with your Gung Gung. So happy you enjoyed the food from our city ! Cheers from Toronto, Canada !
Toronto has the best food for all ethnicities. When I travel away from Toronto, I miss our amazing restaurants. 🇨🇦
I’m so glad you enjoyed my home town! Canada’s immigrants make great contributions to our culture. We love them!!
Its Torano.
Loving your channel. GrandPa adds character to your vlog 😅.. welcome to Toronto.
Love the Grandpa! He’s awesome! 😂👍🏼
Glad your family had such a good time in our city. 🇨🇦
I'm a new member and really happy to discover your content :) Take care of all your relatives. They are gold !!
I agree; I am not fond of the Asian food in Montréal.
That tells u everything
first time catching your videos, love you and your fam! thanks for visiting and enjoying Toronto, it means a lot to the people
This is the kind of family channel I can get behind. You guys are so cute, grandpa is obviously the star (he knows it)
I love your grandpa, he is wicked funny.
Great video, super cool fam with special props to grampa of course. Thanks for visiting!
Or the Chinese man that decapitated some dude on a bus in canada
Great video! Love your gramps!
Aye, you gotta put Vancouver on your list if you want great Chinese food. Especially Cantonese.
When he complained about prices, after USD to CAD conversion it was actually cheaper here. But yeah everything getting more expensive.
Toronto and the GTA is a foodie city and region. We're spoiled with classy food.
Boston is bad or mediocre at most things, but Bostonians think they're the best at everything 😂
I'm from Toronto. This made me ask my fam if they want to go to dimsum. We're going now 😆
Next time you’re in Toronto go to the Perfect Chinese Restaurant in Scarborough it’s on Sheppard Road and Brimley Road, it has one of the best dim sum and its open 24 hours
We're spoiled for Chinese in Toronto (and most every other cultural/regional cuisines!). It must've taken forever to narrow down the list.
Thanks for sharing. All the places look good. I'd try them all when I visit.
@@kevwwong I loved playing robocop in there.
I live in Markham now for almost 30 years. Never gone to any of these places to eat. May try it now. Thanks for visiting us.
My favorite Canadian-Chinese dish is ginger beef but that's found out west, specifically Alberta.
Its in every Chinese restaurant in Toronto and GTA.
Not free healthcare. Taxpayer funded healthcare.
@@dianenewhook9501 not true. It's harder to find good crispy ginger beef a/o crispy ginger chicken.
lol there is a Congee King in Richmond (Vancouver suburb), wait it's Congee Noodle King.
Canada rocks!
What an amazing family. Your grandparents are awesome and glad you enjoyed Toronto.
25 usd is 34 Canadian so technically cheaper
@kevwwong, good point. I'd be curious how Toronto compares to NYC Chinese food.
@@jackflash5659 I think Toronto is better, but of course there's a bit of bias on my part. Obviously, nothing wrong with the food in NYC.
When I worked in Markham we used to get take out from first Markham place food court for lunch all the time.
They had amazing beef in black bean sauce with flat rice noodles.
Loved this video ❤
Those fries with the club sandwich are shoestring fries. They're really good.
the grandpa, my god he’s soooo great, I immediately love him haha
Y’all f’d up for not going to skyview fusion for its open fire charsiu which is arguably not just the best charsiu in Canada but in the world. Definitely stacks up well against any Michelin starred ones in HK.
472 is DEFINITELY a "hidden gem"!!!! GR8 vid!!!!
You missed the fried chili turnip patties at Congee Queen. 🔥🔥🔥
Was going to make this same comment. Signature dish there for sure.
Nice family!
Toronto is a very multi cultural city!
We have the best of Everything!
Loved you video
I need daily rice rolls in my life. Beef, pork, shrimp, whatever - I just need that texture and sweet soy sauce on the regular.
Also, China Pearl needs to reopen already.
Your from Boston and freight for local lobster is a hell of a lot less than in Toronto it’s shipped from east coast. You also have the advantage of the US dollar and the prices for that lobster in that restaurant is in canadian dollars. Lots of factors in food cost aren’t there? Great content and loved the video!
