In my opinion yes its better for smaller babies since it allows them to lay down and give a lot of support, while the yellow baby float is for babies that can raise they head more effieciently. She liked the turtle one when she was younger but loves the yellow one now, it gives her room to kick her legs and more of a view!
Yes, we have a mattress, it fits perfectly and it's pretty comfy. The pack and play alone has a mat but it's pretty hard so I definitely recommend getting a mattress for it.
She hasn't before! We make sure she is pretty comfortable and snug in there. I place a mattress in it and then place all my stuff, then put her in last so she can be nice and secure.

Just bought the collapsable sand bucket with the toys and that is a game changer, didn't even know they made that.

I actually used everything so it was needed for me! Some I listed as options as well. Everyone is different :)
