I remember when I was in my 10th standard (I guess 1981, and now I am 50 years in 2018), I saw this movie. I cried a lot when this portion was played watching it.. I was too young to even understand what music is. But now, hearing this again after 37 years, I still cry.. I will die for Ilayaraja... He will remain the King of all Kings..and the only God of Music. My loving wife too who is also a die-hard fan of IR, was my best companion to share all IR songs and discuss them indepth. All the time, we used to discuss his music. My soulful wife, is in the heavens now. I miss her a lot...LOTS..!!

Though ilayaraja is a pure tamilian, his old and new musical works are appreciated by western classical musicians around the globe. Our state and central govts should recognize his Godly music and honour him with titles like padmasri, padmabushan and padmavibushan. He fully deserves for such titles till his music lingers in our ears. North South bias should not hinder in choosing this great legend musician for such awards. This is my humble request to the award selection committee. Thanks.

Even Ilayaraja used and still uses "computurs & other musical equipment" that you criticize other composers of using.. yes even in the 80s. It doesn't matter if composers use "computurs & other musical equipment". It is the composer's talent and ability that matters. Ilayaraja is truly an irreplaceable musical genius in that regard. Comparing other composers with Ilayaraja and expecting them to be on the same level shows you don't realize just how ridiculously impossible it is to possess the talent and ability that Ilayaraja has.
No one can stop those two tears streaming down from your eyes on hearing this. Where did Raja learn all this trick? This is maybe what they say 'God's gift'.

The transformation actually commences at 2:18 where the raga shifts from Pantuvarali to Mohanam (two notes are omitted, so subtly though, which leads to a 'Grahabedam'. At 2:40 Raja gets the melody back to Pantuvarali by returning to the original Sadjamam. Raja can only do a magic like this!! Absolutely magnificent creation. Yes, 'out of the world' as you rightly said.
From: Ramesh Venkataraman to Mr. Ramesh Rangarajan. Just no words. The man Ilayaraja is God personified. I am unable even think of how would have imagined the scales of Western Music and blended it with Carnatic Music to produce such a master piece. Thank you Sir for posting this video.

Mesmerizing!! From the very looks & the body language of the musicians, it's evident that they too enjoyed playing their bits. Raja not getting an Oscar or a Grammy only shows how poor these awards are. Anyway that aside, salute the Maestro for this composition. I'm sure it would have taken him less than 5 minutes to get them all together in his mind.

IR is NOT celebrated as much as he should have been, by the people (of his own state!), Government (Central or State) and his peers.
