The Tartan Army in Germany have been highly praised by both politicians and police for their behaviour. They may well have drunk bars dry in their wake, yet as far as I'm aware, there has been no trouble. I get the feeling that the Tartan Army police themselves, with due credit. Just wait for 'Flouer o Scotland' being sung at tonight's game. Rooting for you Scotland.

They definately police themselves as when they were in the French Euro Competition I heard from a workmate who was there that the Tartan Army held down/sat on a couple who tried to start trouble until they calmed down.
These fellow Scots came together from all parts of Scotland and came together in Germany, Marched/sang in harmony and yet, they never practiced or ever sang together! They are true honest Scots that like to party and have a laugh and just enjoy each others company, We may not have the best team in the world, but we Scots must be the most loved supporters world wide!
Speaking Gaelic, wearing Kilts and playing bagpipe's were also prohibited by the British.

Our Scottish army do marches through Scotland when they come home. And they also perform when something happens at Buckenham Palace.

@@lynnm6413 I assume you are talking about Iceland, but that hand clapping they did was stolen from Scottish fans of Motherwell FC. An Icelandic team played Motherwell in Europe and after this they wrote a letter to the club to ask if they could use it for their national team. Scotland showing the world the way as per usual, Iceland did not take anywhere near the percentage of fans companred to Scotland. No team in the world has matched it. When Rangers of Scotland played in European finals in the past 20 years. twice they took 250,000 to the games. Both times European travelling records. Even Celtic of Scotland when they played a European final took 200,000 fans to that final. No other country in Europe comes anywhere near it

Munich, Cologne & Stuttgart the amount the Tartan Army spent in the local's economy is phenomenal, match tickets, accommodation, transport, food and maybe the odd beer. I'm not surprised "We " are welcome. Never any trouble just good old fashioned banter win, lose or draw. (well don't know about win)
The biggest army we ever mustered for battle was around 15,000 but to have 100,000 of us invading in peace is not unusual.

The first song is considered Scotland's. National Anthem. They aren't a fan club. We are maybe a small nation who don't do well in Big National competitions but we are a proud nation & losing isn't a big deal.

The Songs are hestorical....We mite lose a battle but we never lose the war, it's trible. Know-one teaches the words we just know them as a collective tribe. We are Scotland....Scotland is 1.
And if you hear certain songs in your native language often enough, you can usually sing along, regardless of whether you know the entire lyrics or just the chorus.

Flower of Scotland is the Scottish National Anthem, so most Scots know at least most of it.
Edit: The Tartan Army have been consistently praised for how well they've behaved for every international match they've attended.
Edit 1: During the French Euro they had members of the Tartan Army sleeping in hedgerows with kilts & legs sticking out in plain view.

It was one in every twenty five people went to Germany. Approximately 4% of the population. We also have the highest attendance as a percentage of the population at Scottish league games. About 3.5%

Im welsh, but have plenty of scottish in my family, not too sure about england, but at funerals etc... we have bag pipes playing and men wear kilts.

My question was basically for me to know how new fans (such as myself) would go about knowing the words to the chants.
The idea that the crowd grew makes me wonder how the newcomers would know the chants. Also, if they create new chants, how would the crowd go about learning it?

It may start in a bar before the game (for example) and suddenly 200+ people know it. In the stadium you sing, what you neighbor is singing. The melody ist mostly known and the text is pretty simple (in general) and no Shakespeare. After 2-3 games the majority knows
@@TeacherPaulReacts Football chants just seem to happen from nowhere. In the 80's I started one at a game and within 10 seconds, the whole stadium was chanting. One of my proudest moments! Viel Gluck Deutschland aus Schottland.
