It's ironic that the behaviour of Scotland's fans has improved exponentially with the team's decline. Tbf, even with a team of superstars, we were woeful at most tournaments, although we suffered some rotten luck in 74 and 82. But in the 70s and up to the late 80s, it was a very different travelling tartan army. It seems that the fans who travelled expecting to see Scotland make an impact abandoned the team to be replaced by fans who predominantly want the experience and care little about the results. Just look at how fans in Argentina 'saluted' the team after failing miserably compared to the scenes after the Hungary game!!!
Me too, my friend. 3 years in West Germany. Loved every minute of it, like you.The Germans took to the British soldiers and their families in a way you'd think impossible after WW2. So many lads met German girls and settled there. I think the Germans appreciated the way they were treated by the British in the aftermath of war and then the days of BAOR. Contrast the treatment Germans living under the Russians enjoyed and you can see why so many Brits had a wonderful time stationed in Germany. We gave them respect and they gave it back.

As a german that have been at Scotland 3 month ago i need to say it was strange when i left. Cause i never felt so home when i was abroad. I mean what a great country! The people, the sounds, the culture and that needed to be said what amazingly beautiful women. The cool guys at the stadium (was there for a football game) and how nice and organized everything was. I was a Scottish Soldier posted in Germany for a year in the 90s and can honestly say I loved every minute of it. Thank you, Germany.
