Hands up here. I was late to the party, I'm an oldish git and been riding less than 3 years. The love I've developed for the sport means I've easily learnt about what people like Sam have achieved in the past. If u are into the sport u will easily learn, anyone who doesn't probably doesn't have the passion that most riders have. Nothing wrong with that, they just need to keep out of the comments! 🤣

The talk of childhood isn't far off.
Before I was old enough to drive, I cycled everywhere and usually with my mates, offroad, onroad, exploring or simply getting from a to b. Cycling everywhere often resulted in understanding an area intimately, every trail, track or road was never off limits, neither were parks, sets of stairs, fields and anywhere else a bike could go...(Lost one in the sea once...) Those cherished memories are very much my harnessed youth and memories of endless days of fun.
Sam's point about growing up is true, suddenly life can become too busy for a bike, when you're commuting 5 days a week and have obligations on the weekends with kids. Sad but true and the struggle is real, because no matter how grown up you might appear, deep down we all have an inner child and would prefer to be out on our bikes, or in the surf, or kicking a football, vs staring at a computer in a grey office...
One thing reigns true; whether you're in your 30's, 40's or 50's, if you get a group together and hit the trails, it results in smiles, laughs, dares, bravado, silliness and sometimes white knuckles. Always a chuckle afterwards and a great workout = everything we did when we were kids.. ;)
Lovinf these shorts and SP is a living legend.

Sam is the GOAT. He is like Tom Brady, Michael Jordan, Deion Sanders/Bo Jackson, Gretzky, Pele, Magic Johnson, Tiger Woods, Jerry Rice, Carl Lewis, Tony Hawk, Kelly Slater, etc... He's like that for me when it comes to freestyle/freeride/slopestyle mtb riders. He's truly mastered his craft like few others have... and living the dream! Mad Respect for you Sam!

Everyone told me that I am crazy when started riding at age of 31. When I showed them my goals in how far I would like to get with it . Omg everyone said for me to grow up and everything else you can think off to put me off from it . What biking has given me is absolutely incredible. Just showed that when ppl are scared of something they try and make you not do it too . Weird . Brilliant video and big respect to the pioneers making mountain biking what it is today . At 31? Lol, that's crazy. I'm just appalled at how everyone around me between the age of 30 and 36 have suddenly become geriatric. Had a friend even tell me he's too old now to celebrate his 33rd birthday 😂
Meanwhile I'm still shredding the bikepark with more confidence and skill than in the 20 years prior, while they all get visibly fat and pity themselves.
Keep doing what you're doing Bro. Society is fucked up, it's best to not participate in the circlejerk of self pity and self neglect and just keep on doing what you love.
I don't plan on stopping riding downhill before my body literally gives out and I can't physically do it anymore. Then I'll probably buy an ebike and keep riding trails 😂

It's funny Olly says that, I'm a 44 year old Aussie and was never really into MTB but I raced motocross pretty seriously until a spinal cord injury in 2003 (Neck), but then a couple years ago I got into watching Matt Jones' lockdown backyard build and vlogs, then Brendog's grew to Pilgs, Odub, Kerr and so on and now I'm subscribed to more MTB vlogs than MX haha, and like you mentioned it was only the other day I was shocked to find out that Samuel Reynolds won Rampage!! I grew up and live on a pretty hilly farm and it kills me cause it'd be fairly ideal for MTB! I'm trying to talk the family into making it a bike park haha

That is so true! If it was like 10 years ago and you would meet mountain bikers, depending where you are from and what your category is let's say I was a downhill and I would watch content on what was available, so most people into dh wouldn't know about Sam Pilgrim but they would know Steve peat, with youtube and the creation of content it's easier to know what people are up to besides competition, let's say like a lot of people now know about Sam Pilgrim from youtube, but I know him from different realms and I have a different perspective from Sam Pilgrim, regular people can barely grasp what Sam Pilgrim is all about and he isn't the only one, there are pros out there that are older than Sam Pilgrim and if I ask around if they know such and such they have no idea... I’m 33 I was always about on a bmx or mtb bike. I had kids early and literally couldn’t afford much when it came to bikes for myself. my kids are teens now and I’ve recently got myself back on a hardtail and find myself grinning like a Cheshire Cat when flying down muddy tracks at 30mph. My kids also find it funny that dad can still ride a bike alright lol 😂. It’s to me one of them things that will never get old or boring even when your blowing out of your arse 😂😂😂

Think I have said this before I am a year younger than Sam so know about him All my life May not have gone to the contests but I’ve known about him and what he has. achieved in his career Sam is a bit like Graham Jarvis the goat of extreme Enduro unless you know of him you don’t know what he has achieved throughout his career both. have achievements and accolades as long. as A river but my all time favorite moment. of Sam’s is when he built that scaffolding drop in the woods most sketchiest thing I’ve ever seen and he done a backflip off it Crazy

A continuance so I was riding the bike park and going from slalom to medium slope at valpon in Boulder. The lower slalom well I wasn't feeling it, so I said bravo I will cross the gravel road and drop in on lower slope medium line . Stacks of injuries and perhaps age. Man my cut over line was sweet... The park workers didn't like that so they blocked it off with caution. I rode their asses for being deuscebags and they called the cops..... I told them to beat it I wasn't breaking the law. They left ... Which bring me to last night seriously ..I live in Boulder co. This putride thing of a woman was watching me like I was gonna run across the road and kidnap her. It's the way I look. So walking down the side walk I stopped in my tracks looked back and this crazy was watching me then I walk forward then turned around and walk back then her boyfriend class I was following her. I let him have it because if anything she following and watching me. The guy called me a weirdo .... Bra I let him know who the weirdo was. Boulder is full of really weak sick people that controll their pets like no other. What is that term situational awareness. Liberals are a sad bunch
