    I’m so sorry this happened to you all - poor Hannah. What Alton Towers should do is hire Hannah and Becky as consultants, and make improvements based on their recommendations. This has been a horrible experience for them, and it’s an opportunity to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Keep doing what you’re doing girls, keep bringing the joy. X

      @@mrpunjabi8606 Late? No. I just saw the video. Again, yes she is. the rides have bracing. They don't build rides based on how tight a person can hold on because a lot of people would die. If you read the rules for that park it clearly states disabled persons can ride as long as they have assistance. Go read for yourself.

    That’s disgusting the way they treated you both. I’m lucky in a way that I hate rides as a wheelchair users but know how embarrassing it can be the way you were treated. I tried to get on soarin in Epcot a few years ago but due to the way my lower back is the seats were uncomfortable and when I asked if I could sit in my wheelchair to the side to just watch it I was told no and sped up to get out the ride. I spent the whole time in the hallways outside in tears.
    Also Hannah you have it so right, my ethos is always treat everyone as human, everyone has feelings.

    When you think of traveling with someone who is disabled you might question why and how this is possible. The truth is it is totally possible if you have a disability with a few accommodations and a bit of determination. These few changes are not too hard for someone to do, but they will make a dramatic difference in how much enjoyment they get from the trip. Speaking from a disabled perspective I want you to know that even with your disability you can still go around the world and have the best experience traveling in your own way. No matter where you’re going, the most important piece of advice is to keep your needs in mind and ask yourself these questions. They include what is the goal of my trip, what will make this trip easier on me and those traveling with me, how can I make accommodations to get the most out of my trip and what would I like on my trip from my daily life in order to be the most comfortable.

    Wow! I as so sorry you had this experience. We have a son who like Hanna is non verbal and uses a wheelchair. He is about to turn 8 and loves rollercoasters and we usually go to Chessington as it is fairly close to where we live but as he is getting bigger he wants to ride bigger and bigger coasters. It is such a sensory experience where he is the same as everyone else and there aren’t many things we can all do together. We were hoping to do Alton towers in the next year or so as he is nearly tall enough to go on all the rides.

    I'm surprised at a large tourist attraction like Alton Towers not behaving in an inclusive way. I'm aware of the 2015 accident on the Smiler which happens v. rarely so I can understand their enhanced health + safety, but it sounds like the Alton Towers staff approached Hannah with 19th century attitudes and it's so sad not one of them attempted to make adaptations or special consideration so she could enjoy the rides. I have a relative who has sight loss and uses a long cane; he's been on boat rides, even a horse, with assistance and consideration. It doesn't take long to ask someone what their requirements are.

    The 2 minutes thing is legit, that actually does have to happen. However, I have been in the Rita station THIS YEAR, back in July, and actually watched a young girl with severe mobility issues get on the ride, watched it go round, and then watched the staff help her off afterwards. They are trained in helping disabled guests, so this is entirely unacceptable. Almost seems like they simply couldn’t be bothered? Also, they have clearly given her a red wristband. What this means is that she cannot walk more than the stipulated amount unaided. Therefore, they should not have allowed such an embarrassing event to have occurred. They can see the colour of the band, and they should know what that means. I am so so sorry that this happened to you. You shouldn’t be embarrassed. You are beautiful people, and to Hannah personally, I support you. ❤️❤️❤️

    • @mrpunjabi8606
      @mrpunjabi8606 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a lie. You need to be able to brace yourself for these rides due to g forces and the power against your body. If you cannot brace you will come off extremely injured.

    • @mrpunjabi8606
      @mrpunjabi8606 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also a red band does not mean you cannot walk. It means you do not need to queue

    • @Matt-op1zd
      @Matt-op1zd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Papa Johneria not a lie, I saw what I saw buddy. Severe mobility issues doesn’t necessarily mean unable to hold on. It meant unable to walk in this case. The ride entrance safety board specified that all riders must be able to walk unaided for 25m on The Smiler, Nemesis, Galactica, Oblivion and Wicker Man I believe, but not Th13teen or Rita, since both are fully accessible. This girl was done a huge injustice. End of story.

    • @mrpunjabi8606
      @mrpunjabi8606 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Buddy. It’s more than holding on. You need complete control over body movements. Walking is a factor. But you also need to brace. You GP’s do my head in

    • @Matt-op1zd
      @Matt-op1zd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Papa Johneria also wrong. I am a yellow band holder, due to autism. I was mistakenly given a red band this August, and when I got to the front of The Smiler’s disables Access line, they turned me away, since my band dictated that I wouldn’t be able to walk unaided should the ride need to be evacuated. It means that you require someone to ride with you, due to heavily limiting mobility issues.

    You two are awesome. Sorry you both had such a rotten time, but this video shows how that can be turned into something positive.

    . Alton towers really need to sort this out- it is completely unacceptable. For someone who seems to be smiling 99% of the time, the only time in the video Hannah didn’t look happy was after her visit to Alton towers. So glad you’re both owning it and taking a stance against them.

    Hey guy's.. I am sorry to hear you had such an issue with Alton Towers. I accompanied my disabled friend to Thorpe Park for Octoberfest.. Granted he's not in a wheel chair but has mobility and access issues..
    Thorpe park staff were patient and amazing!! Considering it's another Merlin Park it upsets me to think you all had such a bad experience..We are going to Alton for Scarefest next week and hope we dont have a similar experience as yourselves..I hope Alton have seen this video and have taken action and have compensated you for their errors and misjudgement..
    Hannah, you are obviously an amazing woman who has encountered discrimination throughout your life, but to be completely ignored because you are non verbal is disgusting.. And to see the sadness on your face during this video was so upsetting. This shows that people's attitudes need to change.
    If we experience any negativity on our trip next week, we will be going to guest relations and showing them this video demanding change!!
    Hopefully Alton have seen and taken notice of this.. Were you guy's compensated at all as you may have a case for discrimination??
    Hannah, keep being amazing, keep riding coasters..Sending a massive virtual hug and kiss to you.. Also Hannah's sister (didnt get your name)
    You are AMAZING!! and obviously love your Sister to death..
    Sorry your birthday was ruined by a bunch of uneducated arseholes..
    Lots of love to you both xx

    Sorry this happened to you I haven’t been back there in 10 years since they decided that visually impaired and blind visitors weren’t allowed to use disabled access . This caused myself and my friends who are all sight impaired a lot of issues because we ended up getting pushed around in queues , falling on steps we weren’t expecting and weren’t told when it was our turn to go on rides meaning the people behind us yelled at us a lot for not moving when we were meant to. We went back to customer services twice and explained that using the normal entrances wasn’t safe and we didn’t feel safe and they just said because we can walk we have to use the normal entrances .
    Any other parks we go to understand that it’s more for our safety that we use the disabled access because it’s quieter so we can take our time to navigate and staff help us to the rides in a less rushed manner. Frustrating to see Alton towers is still unable to accommodate disabled guests so many years later
    Big hugs

    I just saw your story as it was on daily mail. I actually can't believe Alton Towers. The quality of customer service/care has gone down hill massively in recent years. I do not understand the smiler and needing to walk 25 metres. That's ridiculous, it's a rollercoaster 🤷 I feel so sad for all of you, how horrible that must have been for Hannah. It's not ok at all and Alton towers should be ashamed. ❤️

  • @RiverMersey

    Surely Alton Towers could not only use this as a learning opportunity for them as a company but could make this better for everyone.
    Alton Towers could devise a daily programme where, in rotation, each ride provides assistance for less able people. Assistance would be specially trained staff who, if need be, could ensure guests are correctly strapped in and furthermore help if the ride breaks down.
    As mentioned in this video, other theme-parks of the world are able to provide support in this way - Alton Towers should be able to match or better this!
    @CheethamsWithDreams , I'd never heard of your channel and I'm sad that I've found it due to this issue. However, I'm hoping to look forward to watching you have better experiences than this!

    So not only did they seclude Hannah from riding the rides, they made her secluded by not letter her use her own voice! My heart has broken for you Hannah- let’s hope we can make it inclusive for you in the future ❤️

    As an ex enployee of numerous themeparks in the country I’ve personally dealt with people that the same mobility issues like Hannah and it’s dam rude that the hosts locked her in the ride and watched you carry her in just to be told that she wasn’t able to ride the host should of noticed the fact that she wasn’t able to walk unaided and Rita is one ride where it can’t stop unless it’s stuck on the launch position which baffles me for why they refused her riding if I was on shift at that park that day I would of felt hurrendous that you had to deal with that so I hope that AT deal with this properly and come back to you with a proper way of going forward

    Thanks for sharing this with us guys this was disgraceful that this happened to you Hannah people should respect you for who you are and should let you have the same life as everybody else and Alton Towers should of told you what you can and can't do before you did it as they wouldn't like it if they were in your shoes and they had to do and said to them what they said to you they would hate it so they need to think about how they speak and how they speak to they should speak to you directly Hannah just because you can't communicate doesn't mean you don't have a brain or you can't think for yourself I have your own opinions

    I was so sorry to read your account and now watch your video. The way you guys were treated was disgusting. Good to hear that Alton Towers have reached out to you, but if shouldn't have come to this, as a major attraction they need to do better and be much more inclusive. Sounds like disability awareness training would be useful as part of their staff training package. Keep up the amazing awareness you guys are doing to make this world a better place ❤

    I'm so sorry this happened to Hannah. I have cerebral palsy and can't walk unaided but I've been 4 or 5 times now and literally the only ride I've not been able to go on is the Smilier because it is the only ride without a auto pulley and so if it breaks down you have to be able to climb down a ladder which I couldn't obviously do. But every other ride I've got on no bother. Its absolutely disgusting you got no warning beforehand, its even more disgusting how they treated Hannah.i really commend you both because I wouldnt have been as dignified as you both are being.im lucky to be able to talk although my speech is affected but i would have made my feelings perfectly clear to them. I really hope this awful experience doesn't affect Hannah too much and Alton Towers get their act together and dont do this again. I hope they gave you your money back as well
