2024 and I'm a grown man STILL struggling to not cry during the FFX/KH transition AND the Shenmue/MGS transition. Absolutely incredible. This video will never lose its charm ❤
I've gone through all of high school, college, got a job, got married, and bought a house since this video came out and I'm still coming back. Legitimately one of my favorite videos on the platform.
Giordan Diodato with respect, they're YOUR classic soundtracks, not his. There's game themes he's missed out which are far more iconic than the ones you've mentioned, but I wouldn't say its a bad thing, every cover he's done here is done absolutely perfect.
Even after 7 years i think i still have to find a medley on TH-cam that is as well put together as this. Every song flows seamless into the next as if it were just another song section. This is incredibly well done, from the choice of instruments, the composition to the playing. Creating musical and emotional tension while still doing all the originals justice is hard but this is the perfect ecample of how to do it. The calm slowdown during FFX (5:30) or the break and drumfill leading into song of storms (7:40) are pure goosebump factorys and make me shiver every damn time. This is just so well made! Thanks mate.
A decade ago, jesus christ. times flies. so this was uploaded during 2013. I swear this was older, but I guess I'm mistaking with your others uploads like the tv medley and the Zelda ones. I've been following you since the beginning. its been a ride. life is very amazing
This has been a part of me and my brother's life since it came out. There's so much that this video has that we love. Your medley stands out to be one of the best we've ever listened to, and you yourself are just such a talented individual!(We also love your Wind Waker unplugged video too!) So I truly hope, maybe for this videos 10th anniversary, you do another one?? If you don't, totally cool and alright! But I'll tell you what, having another timeless medley from you would be amazing! I hope you're doing well! Stay safe out there! :D
Ive been watching this video almost every month since 2012 and never commented before., i discovered the drummer's band thanks to it and they slept in my house at their european Tour. This is THE BEST video in youtube. Thanks Fredde. U are amazing.
I'm just going to be extremely ominous here one of my favorite parts is when they start into final fantasy 10 and jump straight to simple and clean oh my God that transitioned so well! ❤️
Posted over ten years ago, yet I am just hearing it today (1/24/24). If I hadn't played most of these games growing up, and the title didn't give it away, I would have just listened to one of the greatest Prog Rock melodies ever put together. Well done my dude, and thank you for this gem!
Man, it's been six years since this video came out and I'm still here every few months or so. The Wicked Child part is simply so amazingly well done, especially with the ride cymbal highlighting the melody~
I have watched and listened to this so many times over the years now and it still gives me chills. Then just when you think it can’t get any better, the last four songs fit so perfectly together. The transition into Metroid Prime file select, then the way MGS 2 theme comes in…. Aaaaahhhh, it’s all so perfect! Thanks so much for this gem!
I've recently been searching the internet for a few video game themed songs that sounded so much better than anything youtube finds for me. They were here, they were all here. The internet STILL hasn't reached this video's level of awesome!
This brings back so much of my childhood! Great video! The Fire Emblem, Metroid, Pokémon and F-Zero were all great parts too. I've put this into one of my playlists, coming back and listening to it a couple times just makes it flow really well and all sounds great!
I think I've seen this video when it launched 9 years ago, yet I keep coming back to your stuff. It doesn't age, or if it does, it's graceful. Sometimes I get more excited by the speedy renditions of Kirby Super Star and Mega Man 2. Sometimes the minimalist and smooth vibe of Cave Story relaxes me. Sometimes the Gradius FFX KH segment brings me tears. And MGS2 is a perfect near finale. Both you guys did great, and this is some of the best VGM content on the web. Thank you for putting this together.
This is in fact an epic medley that covers the most important franchises. It is also good to see that the Tetris A or any 8-bit mario songs are not used as they already appear in way too many medleys. My favourites in here are the Forest Maze and Big blue being awesome as always. Seeing Fire Emblem there is quite a surprise as barely anyone plays songs from the franchise.
10,000 possible video games (gross underestimation) At least 4-5 songs for each game 10 minute video "Why didn't you include my favorite song out of the 50,000 other choices? I'm going to dislike your video now, waaaaahhhhh" Great video, shit comment section.
also, can I just say how glad I am that this isn't just composed of the mario theme, the zelda theme, the sonic theme and maaaaaaaaybe the mega man 2 theme, like so many other compilations tend to do? it's great to see someone actually have a fair representation of tons of great franchises.
Every time I watch this video it reminds me why I am a gamer. I've been playing since I was about five years ago and my first game was TLoZ: Ocarina of Time. It's been about 14 years and I've grown up with games and now facing the challenges of adult hood and needing to do something with my life I'm often asked why I even bother with gaming. It's a waste of money and time say many of my family members and that I should have grown out of it by now. But gaming has had an effect on my life that can never be satisfied by anything else. The music especially (I am studying towards a degree in music education) takes me to a place beyond this real world. It's a haven from the struggles of our world. Whether it be war, economic decline, issues that plague our world, the one place I can retreat to when I get tired and need a break from reality is gaming. The music calms me and helps me realize that there is good in the world. I'm happy whenever I boot up Ocarina of Time and hear that title theme and go back to Kindergarten when the only thing I cared about was having fun. Sorry for the long post, but I love this video and had to put up my feelings towards it.
I feel ya bro. I hate when people tell others to "grow out of games", its a stupid stoneage-brains saying... Gaming is just a hobby like everything else... Its like saying "grow out of football" or any other sport/hobby, as most of these are introduced to us when we are kids... The only reason why people are saying this is because its not "socially accepted" yet, since its a completely "new" concept, and people tend to be against the unknown. However, the community is growing and also in 30-40 years all the dinosaurs will be gone; at that point gaming will be just as recognized as athletics, music and all the other socially accepted hobbies. I hope.
+MrSlothJunior Oh same here ... and with this kingdom hearts host, I still can hear in my had donald sceaming "soraaaaaa soraaaaaaaaaaaaa" ... brr my god! *_*
To put it in Yoshiller's words: All you people ever do is complain! It's like if you woke up on Christmas and you got everything you wanted except for one thing, and you just moped all day because you focused on what wasn't there, not what was there.
EpicGamerz Main I was more imitating the people who always complain, but it's really hard to tell over the internet. It would've been cool if he did have Earthbound in it though, seeing as it's a really underrated game and it's probably one of the best SNES, if not JRPG, if not just *game*, ever. The video was really freaking good though, with everything he did.
EpicGamerz Main It was released for the virtual console on the e shop a few weeks ago, actually. I played it only a few months ago, so I'm not speaking from nostalgia when I say it's probably one of my favorite games I've ever played. I will recommend it to *everyone*. It's worth every cent.
9 years later and this is still my favourite VG rock medley I've ever come across.
Same!
same x2 !!! :)
12 year now
respect to the drummer who had to change the rythm every 10 sec :D

2024 and I'm a grown man STILL struggling to not cry during the FFX/KH transition AND the Shenmue/MGS transition.
Absolutely incredible. This video will never lose its charm ❤
Same here. Turning 40 this year, and that part just makes me teary-eyed.
I always get goosebumps on the Castlevania into Ducktales portion. IT'S JUST SO GOOD.
I've gone through all of high school, college, got a job, got married, and bought a house since this video came out and I'm still coming back. Legitimately one of my favorite videos on the platform.
That FFX and Kingdom Hearts part..
+10 points
This is so painfully underrated. How the hell has it only amassed 2.5 million views after over 10 years?
I know I've watched this video so, SO many times, but that transition from F-Zero to Fire Emblem is just KILLER.
I agree. Also the transition from Outrun to MegaMan and the one from Gradius to FFX to Kingdom Hearts makes me cry
Imo, this video is one of THE best videos on TH-cam (topnotch covers!).
except he missed so many classic soundtracks like Legend of Heroes/Trails series, Ys, Grandia, Star Ocean, Tales of, Golden Sun, I could go on.
Giordan Diodato There is always more, but he could always cover those games in another video.
you cant judge him on that, thats like me asking you to tell me every game of the year title and expecting you get all of them in one go.
Michael Braddy but he should know them.
Giordan Diodato with respect, they're YOUR classic soundtracks, not his. There's game themes he's missed out which are far more iconic than the ones you've mentioned, but I wouldn't say its a bad thing, every cover he's done here is done absolutely perfect.

Seriously, I'm literally going to cry right now
good job man, good job
The Kingdom Hearts one as well as The Song of Storms and Metroid one gave me goosebumps. Ahh childhood 😩
I swear I know every single note by heart lmao.
Thanks for heavily inspiring the way I perceive music. I hope you 2 are doing good!
I just want full versions of... all these songs!
Today marks the 10 year anniversary of this incredible video. All the success is deserved!
you get extra points for including Metroid Prime, i rarely see anybody do a cover of anything from those games.
I think the same. And it goes for Shenmue too :).
ElAlex742 Same same as well, and also goes for Banjo-Kazooie and Sonic the Hedgehog as well. :)
I give him points for using a kazoo. Rarely see that these days.
blacknija96
FFX was a fun one to do but then again, To Zanarkand is very well known so I can see why.
Still it was cool. :3
Dude check out Stemage if you haven't already. Metroid Metal is badass!
When the drums and bass drop onto Monkey Island, man. That's just pure vibe. Can't sit still. Thank you Fredrik.
Please, come back with new songs, do not stop, my ears need you :(
he needs to do a second one
4:08 that double bass drum shooting like a machine gun
Check out the dude's band Jolly, you'll love his work with them
A decade ago, jesus christ. times flies. so this was uploaded during 2013. I swear this was older, but I guess I'm mistaking with your others uploads like the tv medley and the Zelda ones. I've been following you since the beginning. its been a ride.
life is very amazing
I... I think this almost killed me... way too much awesomness in one song.
actually, you've been dead. welcome to the land of the dead. we too were all killed by this song's awesomeness
I can hum this whole thing by heart from start to finish, 8 years later lol.
Was the best medley back in 2012. Continues the very best in 2020...
I'm not a big Kingdom Hearts fan, but that "Simple and Clean" cover gave me chills...
This has been a part of me and my brother's life since it came out. There's so much that this video has that we love. Your medley stands out to be one of the best we've ever listened to, and you yourself are just such a talented individual!(We also love your Wind Waker unplugged video too!) 8 years on and these renditions of the F-Zero and Monkey Island themes are unmatched. 👌🏾
My gosh.... when simple and clean came on.... I about cried
Damn, how versatile is that drummer ?? He's switching musical genres like every 20 seconds 😲😲
We want more FreddeGredde!
I'm not even exaggerating when I say that I've watched this over 100 times! This is pure gold!
you are not alone. i have this hidden gem also on my ipod
I DEMAND A FULL ALBUM
Ive been watching this video almost every month since 2012 and never commented before., i discovered the drummer's band thanks to it and they slept in my house at their european Tour. This is THE BEST video in youtube. Thanks Fredde. U are amazing.
Still the best Kingdom Hearts cover I've ever heard.
Which song from kingdom of hearts was that?
Riyadh Casoojee "HIKARI (Simple and Clean)", the main theme of Kingdom Hearts I.
And the best of F-zero aswell :)
Made me seriously want its own rock medley.
Watching this for the first time in about 2 years, and I'm still just as impressed. The MGS-theme caps it off perfectly.
F-Zero into Fire Emblem was literally flawless.
I'm just going to be extremely ominous here one of my favorite parts is when they start into final fantasy 10 and jump straight to simple and clean oh my God that transitioned so well! ❤️
Man, I remember when this first came out. I can't believe it's been this long. Still an excellent medley!
I lost it at the fucking Kazoo in Banjo and Kazooie.
How does this not even have 2 million views when Justin Beiber has 200 million plus?? This is what's wrong with our society.
Posted over ten years ago, yet I am just hearing it today (1/24/24). If I hadn't played most of these games growing up, and the title didn't give it away, I would have just listened to one of the greatest Prog Rock melodies ever put together. Well done my dude, and thank you for this gem!
I watched this videos how tears in my eyes T_T
Finally an excellent cover for the Cave Story theme! You should do the whole track... Btw awesome video, thanks!
Kingdom Hearts caught me so off guard while I was getting emotional over FFX that I had tears welling up in my eyes ;_; oooh, that was so good
Man, it's been six years since this video came out and I'm still here every few months or so. The Wicked Child part is simply so amazingly well done, especially with the ride cymbal highlighting the melody~
OMG THAT WAS THE MOST EPIC TEN MINUTES SPENT ON TH-cam IN MY GODDAMN LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!
why doesn't this have 1 billion views?
Love the Kingdom Hearts part! Dem feels!
Same here! It totally rocks 5:44 :D

Bloody excellent, especially loved the Metroid Prime section.
Only 1.7M views? This is underrated.
My favorite video on youtube.
I've recently been searching the internet for a few video game themed songs that sounded so much better than anything youtube finds for me.
They were here, they were all here.
The internet STILL hasn't reached this video's level of awesome!
I can't even....
This is purely amazing.
ahhh it made me so happy when you played Cave Story >u
haha. ha. hahaha. i have no talent.

I heard somewhere talent's a pursued interest.
Try something you like and stick to it, if you feel like it.

Man . . . it sucks that you don't have as many subs as you should.
If you can watch this video without coming back multiple times, your ears are broken.
Hahha i agree
Looks like Theon Greyjoy found a talent.

Great video, shit comment section.
Not at all surprising, honestly, If the youtube base was less shit, his original stuff would have as many thousands/millions of views as his medleys.
At least you're aware that you're part of the problem.
This should be pinned and required reading for any commenters.
The drummer makes this medley awesome. holy shit. You rock drum guy
Totaka's song... that sneaky fucker.
also, can I just say how glad I am that this isn't just composed of the mario theme, the zelda theme, the sonic theme and maaaaaaaaybe the mega man 2 theme, like so many other compilations tend to do? it's great to see someone actually have a fair representation of tons of great franchises.
Great job! A lot of my favorites! Glad you included Banjo-Kazooie in there, my all time favorite!
Fire Emblem! :D Sacred Stone's a classic ^^

Lacks Pikmin.
Lacks Super Mario And Mega Man 3
Lacks Franklin’s Great Adventure and Care Bears: The Care Quests
Lacks a beautiful depiction of _my ass_. This is _aweseome_! I don't care if it doesn't have a silly vegetable.
SuperWardBros Super Mario is there.
And in Mega Man, the second game is there; not the third one.
Lacks Terraria and Littlebigplanet
No Earthbound music.
0/10
There's always room for improvement. Am I right? (Also, he could make a second one... with Mother 3 or Earthbound.)
To put it in Yoshiller's words:

Wow, still epic as hell!
