    Upright and in your boat is never terrible!

    I appreciate your posting... it's all about learning and I feel like I learned a bit about navigating rapids by watching. One thing I would note is to watch your boat's orientation and the downstream oar.... seemed like there was a place or two where if that blade hit one of those rocks you may have caught it in the body... just a thought. Appreciate the vid and have fun out there!

    Appreciate you posting this for those of us on the couch to comment on and learn from. You made it out with the flat side down and that's what counts. Seems like mistakes can snowball fast in this section, pretty easy for "good run" to turn to "pinball" in a hurry. Good job rowing, good job learning.

    Nice high side - thanks for sharing!

    Two thoughts: 1. Use a more aggressive angle. 90 degrees to the current to move left and right or even downstream angles to break across the lateral waves. 2. The oar leashes seem really long. It seems like it could be an entrapment hazard in a flip.

    That rock gets a lot of people at low water, but the current wants to take you left. Same thing happened to me last fall.

    good thing you were not rowing a drift boat!!! leave that to the Helfrich's!!

    Downstream ferry the first move. Get so close to the pivot rock on the right that you have to ship and the current will bump your back end into the rock and spin your nose. A couple oar strokes from there your past the fence without hitting anything with your nose pointed the correct way. Now pull dead sideways backwards into the eddy under the picket fence. That right side goes but the classic left side is cleaner and if you can catch the eddy water below the fence is super easy to set up for.

    You still made it and that's all that counts! One thing you might want to consider is boat spacing, if that boat in front of you gets caught on the first rock you are screwed! Better to let them get through at least the first section before you leave the eddy.

    Been said, but you avoided flipping so what the heck, lessons learned and more fun ahead!

    Good title for the video. Late moves, bad angles, and pretty much pure luck.

    A terrible run through Blossom is still waaaaaayyy better than a good day at the office ;D

    Why do you have an oar keeper strap that is that long?! That's like TRYING to snag all sorts of obstacles/rocks and jam you up at the worst possible time!

    Volts wagon creeps up on you quick, in higher flows it creates a pillow that pushes you off.

    Not the best but you didn't swim! Good educational video, thank you for posting!

    You made the mandatory pull away from the fence and high sided to avoid the flip. I’d say you did pretty well

    One thing that really stuck out to me that none of the other commenters mentioned is IMHO, you were "Lilly Dipping" I didn't see any strong pulls on the oars. If you need to move the boat, then you need to dig in those oars and pull!

    Up Rite is all right! It's not if you're going to hit that rock but when LOL

    dude, get some longer oars. when the handles are down and oars parallel to the water, there should be maybe space enough for a fist in that gap. Way more power, control and your shoulders will thank you for it. Good luck and row like you mean it. 👍

      or move the oar rights like most people do.

    That was rough. Too late to the right at top… double oar turn to pull back to the left behind picket fence. Pulling is easier. Use eddies to take a look not upstream of large rocks….

    Well it may have been an ugly run, but you made it through upright and didn’t lose any gear. I’d still call that a win.

    You made the beaver slide, fuck
    The rest. You don’t always gotta catch picture eddie.

    It's simple: you just aren't strong enough to be doing this. Hit the gym for a few years, little guy.

    Probably the worst footage of a run through blossom without a flip. The only thing you did right was catch the entrance eddy. After that it seems like you just gave up. Luck was on your side.

    You wouldn't have made it had you been in a drift boat. Rafts teach bad habits.

    Dude you have oars… use them

  • @spencerhughes3670
    @spencerhughes3670 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have your gear tied down too far away from the person paring the boat. It severely reduces your ability to spin the raft on an axis.

  • @johnmontgomery5284
    @johnmontgomery5284 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don’t try that with a drift boat!
