Great video. I drove the bus for the Reds AA affiliate(Pensacola FL) during the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Busses do break down. When the Islanders were still here and were the Pirate's Triple A team, getting called up was a pain in the butt. By the time some guys got from Honolulu to Pittsburgh, they came right back.
Wow, this takes me back to being the radio guy in Indy ball. Our bus broke down about an hour out of Slippery Rock on the way home, and I got two hours of sleep in a suite back at the ballpark before work started for the next day's game. Think the players managed to get home for about four hours of sleep - skipper Andy Haines was just fantastic, and told the boys to only be back an hour before first pitch.
I'd imagine the hardest thing about getting to the Show at a young age is getting spoiled by all the things Matt talked about....living the good life, things you never expect to end.....then if you get sent back down, having to go back down and going through the rigors again, wondering if you will ever get another shot in the bigs, that has to be tough.
Our family is following/róoting for recent alumni of our favorite school through the lower minors, so really enjoying these insights. So much more respect for Lowell levels when you realize what a grind it all is.
Wow! Sleeper bus! I wish. Southern League we had 17 hour bus rides, all on our days off of course. The short Triple A time I had . I loved Pawtucket , we would fly over Boston airport, over Providence airport, to Pittsburg for a 2.5 hour lay over. Then take a flight to Boston and then a 1 hour track back to Pawtucket.
