Here, we have a Christ believing man who was asked to speak at a Catholic School Commencement, who reveals to his audience that falling in love and having children will be more meaningful than any occupation they will have in their lives. I am a woman, and I absolutely stand with this man. I am sick and tired of these women who belittle women who want to be home for their husband and children. I have watched the destruction of the family, the suffering of children in fatherless homes for to long. The destruction of children before they even talk their first breath.
Part of that is on men , men belittle women and their worth all the time and fatherless families are fatherless because of the men not the women .
@Kwildcat13 that may be true but keep in mind that the culture (the sexual revolution in particular) have allowed this (the destruction of the family, the lack of sexual morality, attack on marriage or traditional life for men and women while pretending the goal is to have choice; except the traditional choice is often belittle). So the men have grown up in an environment where traditional moral and values are no longer valued.
You cannot blame men and not realized that there used to be a time when men valued marriage and being fathers. That's not the case today. Because many of you women don't want that or belittle it. You want a traditional man while being untraditional as a woman. You want your cake and eat it too

This is about women belittling women. My daughter had bariatric surgery. After two years, she’s finally at her weight goal. She was excited and posted about her journey and showed herself now. She’s getting shitty comments from other women. Those that can’t, those who think she’s fat phobic, or showing off. Women like to tear down other women for doing something they can’t or won’t do.
I came home 6 years ago, left my RN career to raise my children, and my husband only made a gross yearly income at the time around $50k. His gross yearly pay now is $57k. After insurance, taxes, etc out take home is $2,600/month. We had to be a single vehicle home for three years, we don’t spend money on what most other families do... the those are the sacrifices we made to have a parent at home. So when people say they “can’t afford it”, they are actually saying “there is nothing I am willing to sacrifice BUYING to stay home with my kids”. Frankly, we save more money now because we are much more aware of how we spend it.

I was a wife and mother...in the 80s i had 5 children..and my house was full of neighborhood kids ALWAYS! because the women around our home were Never home. I fed, cared for and ENJOYED there children more than the working moms did! They all drove big SUVs but drove them empty.. I had a medium sized car and packed my children and the neighbor's kids during summer and Had A Blast with them all..We went fishing, did arts and crafts, pitched tents outside, dig holes outside, hunted bugs, played water games, they helped me garden, we went shpping at thrift stores and bought cheep affordable toys and the kids Loved them! We laughted, we cried, we grew together! Today these kids STILL remember all the Fun We ALL had! When the neighborhood children would tell mecit was their moms birthday..I would have All the kids make them a Birthday Card. Motherhood is a Great Life!

I am so confused by America. As a brown woman, from a small isolated island country, who has been blessed by God with opportunities to western education and jobs, this speech was such a stand for women. I love that he credited his success to the strong woman that supported him and made a home for him to come home to and feel whole. Strong women raise leaders. To me, that’s a win. Praise God!

As a woman who graduated college and gave birth in the same year. I chose this route. I became a stay at home mom almost 13 years ago. I support his speech. I'm not Catholic, just a follower of Christ. I believe it is our duty and privilege to raise our children.
My wife has been a stay st home mom for the last 20 years, I busted my but to give her and the kids what they need. Now she in nursing school and will be done in a year, she tells me that when she's done I can take it easy . There was nothing wrong with that speech whatsoever.

I'm not a professional football player I'm a water treatment specialist and I do other stuff to make money so my wife can be a stay at home mom. She's the best thing that's ever happened to me. She's my super hero and for that I appreciate her by working all I can do I can provide for my wife and kids. She home schools them and wear many other hats. Without her I am nothing. I got no issue with what he said I'm glad he brought light to this situation and the fact it goes against what this world is trying to to feed us it's a problem. Best commencement speech I’ve ever heard. The world started falling apart when families stopped raising their own kids. Makes no sense to pay $2,000.00 a month for day care when you’re only bringing home $2,500.00 a month. You’re working to pay someone else to raise your kids and the rest of it goes to taxes.

I'm a woman, and I see nothing wrong with being a homemaker. I mean, think about it: Maybe, back in the 1940's +, I think women had it made MORE than modern women would have anyone believe. Back during times when men KNEW they were men, and women knew they were women, and didn't purposely uggo themselves. Women back then had friends, went dancing, watched flicks at the theater, they had fulfilling hobbies, fulfilling lives in general. I think we need to take some time to recenter, prioritize what's really important. But, that's just my opinion. 👋😕

As a wife, mother, and homemaker of over a decade, I was in tears listening to Harrison Butker speaking in such a loving, honoring, and deeply devoted way about his wife, and how much what she does means to him. I have had so many experiences of people rolling their eyes at me, and giving me that judgmental look when I tell them that I stay home with my children, especially from other women. While ultimately I do not care about those peoples opinions, it does sting a little in the moment. People really think that what I do is meaningless, and a waste, and this man was celebrating it, and it honestly felt so good seeing the vocation of homemaking celebrated as an important roll in our society. God bless him, and I pray God protect him, his lovely wife, and their children as they deal with all of the ridiculous attacks against them right now🙏🏻

The thing people are missing is this: He never said that getting the degree was bad and pursuing a career is something men and women shouldn't do. All he said is that Being a Father/Mother and a Spouse are two things greater than any degree or career. This is coming from a man who is on a professional sports team that won the Superbowl (the most watched event of the entire year). He's speaking from great experience and wisdom and he's trying to share that with people who have been lied to that their career is the end-all. Maybe if the amount of people on anti-depressants wasn't skyrocketing his speech would be not necessary but I would say he's trying to offer people a chance at joy and a happiness greater than any form of hedonism, egoism, altruism can produce.

In business and in life I've found out that people only complain when the truth is spoken.
I’ve met a lot of older women who regret not getting married and having children, sacrificing everything for their career.
And I've met many older women who don't feel that way, including some of my own family members. Some even regret getting married and having kids. So now what? Nothing is absolute. People should do what makes them happy, and we need to respect their choices. We should stop thinking that our beliefs dictate how others should live.
Well, I know a lot of older women who don’t regret their decision to not marry and have kids. The married ones turn to them and complain about their own lives, wishing they were as carefree as them, talking about their ungrateful (and unfaithful) husbands and children. You just have to accept that not all women are nurturing or maternal, and that’s OK too. It doesn’t mean they are bitter about their circumstances.

My daughter was kinda butt hurt about this because she said imagine finishing college and getting your degree then a man gets up there and tells you that you won’t be completely successful until you’re a wife and a mother. Funny how their response is that people can’t live and have stay at home wife. E-5 in military and my wife stays at home and takes care of the kids. She did not do this against her will, she loves our kids and her job as a stay at home wife.
I stayed home and raised our 3 daughters until the youngest was in school. She later came and told her dad and I that she was so grateful and her friends were envious because their lives were so messed up.

As a 26 year Navy veteran my wife is the greatest asset to my career. She worked and primarily raised our 3 kids. After I retired she went to nursing school. When you have kids they are the priority, however, dreams can be realized.
This is what my husband and I did. I raised our kids and then I went on to get my career. I love that I did it this way!

I have worked 14 and a half years as a dental assistant with no vacation. The only time I ever had off was maternity leave and when I had gallbladder surgery, after having my son then a tubal all within 4 months time. No one called to check on me, they texted to see when I was coming back. I told my husband I hate my job the job I loved and dedicated my life to. My husband’s response was, you hate your job because that’s not were your heart is any longer, you will never be fulfilled until you are at home with your family. He was absolutely right!! And so is this man, I am so much happier now that I am a stay at home mom!! Yes the days are hard and there is no break especially when you have a child on the spectrum that is nonverbal, but it is the most rewarding job I have ever had!! I am a women and a mother and this is my dream job ❤❤❤❤ I loved his speech.

Old guy here. Harrison “Butkicker” is an excellent field goal kicker for the World Champions Kansas City Chiefs. He is a better Catholic, strong in his faith, and a member of the men’s group called Knights of Columbus. He spoke last March at one of the area churches in our city. I regret I did not get to attend.

In my opinion, the reason a lot of these kids are so screwed up is because they were raised by strangers who were paid minimum wage just to keep them alive. No love, no nurturing just a paycheck.
That's all but hyperbolic speculation, and unwarranted. There are definitely nannies out there, mainly Filipino (my experience), who are very hard working, loving and caring to the children they care for. Especially since many of them come from large families of their own.
This is why I have stayed home with my 5 kids for over 14 years. Not because I'm lazy because I don't want other people raising them.

After 30 years as a man in the work force dealing with a-holes all day long, my dream job is to be a stay at home, not because I think it would be easier but because I’d be spending my time raising my kids showing them love. Kids need at least one parent interested in how their day went and to listen to them about what happened at school that day!

Mothers day was just 4 days ago. How many of us heard "my greatest gift was raising you". Our mothers would give their life to be able raise us full time knowing they were ALWAYS there for us. Our parents ALWAYS want to be with us kids. This S**T drives me nuts. Later in life these people will think back and wish they had the opportunity to be a full time mom

I raised a family on 1 average income. Under $100,000 still and our kids are 18 and 16. Wasn’t able to buy all the toys rich people have or take crazy vacations, but our kids are happy and healthy and doing well with their education. Having my wife at home and being able to be there at all times has been worth more to me and our kids than any career.
That was her choice. Both my parents worked and my siblings and I are also happy. Women and men work. So what
I have no issue with wives wanting a career. I think in many cases the husband and wife have to work to make ends meet. It's not necessarily about greed.
The issue I see is the traditional family being devalued in recent decades. So many single parent families these days. It's pretty sad despite an individual's best efforts.
Butker's speech represented traditional family values, which again I feel have been devalued to the detriment of society.
