Thanks for addressing the challenges the city faces while not making it a focus of your video as your generous local “tour guide” was spot on about the changes that have happened. Happy to help you with your future Seattle excursion if I can add any value. Thanks again!
Agreed. One thing I would take issue with as someone familiar with the research is that the contribution of drug use and mental illness to homelessness is generally overstated. The causality tends to be the reverse. Whatever led to them initially becoming unhoused, the nature and stresses of being homeless often lead to other issues. Many try to continue working, but it's difficult without opportunities for hygiene, cooking facilities, and safe, affordable parking for vehicles. It's a complex issue, and I'm hoping more people become aware, and stop reducing it to drugs & mental illness so better strategies will get support and implementation.

Seattle has always been on the top of my list of favorite skylines. One of the fascinating things about Seattle is that they sluiced a lot of the hills down so that it's not as hilly and steep as it used to be. There are some really cool pictures of this process showing buildings standing on pillars of earth while the hill was removed around them.
FYI, MOHAI (Museum of History and Industry) on Lake Union in Seattle has a great interactive exhibit that shows how the hills have changed over the years.

Seattle Space Needle is from the 1962 Worlds Fair. Elvis performed at the fair & I was 5 years old & won tickets to the fair for my whole family by winning a coloring contest at a grocery store. The whole theme of the fair was future…so you’re not far off from feeling the Jetsons vibe. I’m glad you enjoyed our beautiful area! Ive been follwing for two years now and im glad yall finally arrived in my city. The gum wall gets cleaned every few years but the tradition started because the venue located there had a no-gum policy. Naturally people in line would stick their gum on the wall and thats where the tradition started

I used to work right off of Pike St. The place has really changed from what it used to be, it was a mess when I used to work there. I haven't been there in years as it became a place that I'd avoid at all cost. I also have to say that the waterfront looks so much more cleaned up than what it used to with all the construction of removing the aqueduct, it really cleaned up that skyline.
Seeing mike Iupati in this context is so funny. He was a Seahawk like Jerry Rice was a Seahawk. He played for the 49'ers during the peak of the Seahawks/49'ers rivalry years and then played for another division rival with the Arizona Cardinals. Great player and from all reports, a great guy. Tough time with injuries. What a trip! Glad you enjoyed my city!

Still better than most US metros. Living just outside Seattle is amazing.
First time I ever passed through as a kid there was a big Nirvana concert playing
There are sharks in the Puget Sound. The only known place that the six gill shark have its young. Very proud to have had the NZ Family in our back yard. Hope to have you back again real soon!!
Thank you for visiting our city! We love it too. Next time I know you will love all the things you missed this time around. ❤️🔥
😃😁What a contrast between Seattle of a few years ago and now! This is an outstanding episode and kudos to Rebecca for showing the Fam all of the sights and wonders of the home of the Seahawks. Mind blown!🤯😎😍
I promise you that whoever said they have cleaned it up, is blatantly lying.
I take no joy in telling you thwt only a delusuonal creep would dare say that... but that's how "progressives" roll.
100% denial. Sorry.
This state is blessed with an abundance of varied landscape between the west coast, mountains and eastern Wa. We like to keep this beautiful weather a secret, but I’m so glad you got to experience it. Come back anytime! You have to go to Hawks game! Be prepared for the noise & high prices! Go Hawks!
That is where I had my first Orange Julius. June of 1962 Seattle World Fair.
@@sandyjackson4661 Is there much built for the fair that's still in Seattle?
@@ct6852 pretty much the whole Seattle Center where the Space Needle is was built for the fair. The arena. The international fountain. The Pacific Science Center with the odd looking white arches. The monorail. That was all built for the fair.
@@craigcampbell1843 Oh I didn't know the arena was that old. The monorail I wasn't sure about. But that was a very 60's thing. Or whenever Disney added it to his park. I think they've started to make a comeback around the world. Vegas has a pretty good one now.
@@ct6852 yup. The arena has been updated a few times since then but I believe it’s roofline has landmark status. It is from the fair. I think they only run one or two monorail trains now but that is definitely from the fair too. There were originally four trains.
Wow did yall get lucky with that weather in Seattle 😂. Great guide also! Rebecca a 🐐 You can tell you guys have created a great community since you keep meeting such amazing viewers wherever you go. Respect.
One other comment...thank you for wanting to listen to have a better understanding of our beautiful city beyond rumors and whatever is on the net or media, I've lived here since 1996. And Rebecca is very representative of the wonderful people of Seattle and Washington State - smart with a wealth of local knowledge, funny, generous and caring. Bravo, Rebecca!
Had to make another comment, I love the entire family, what an epic journey. Those kids will be telling stories to their friends for years Way to go !
Btw, a very entertaining video of Seattle but I appreciate the very insightful, honest & compassionate conversation about the homeless & drg problem we are currently having here in America. It hits home being an Angeleno. Thanks Rebecca, thanks My New Zealand Family.✌
I have to say. The music in this travel series has been awesome.
Another great video, the hits just keep onnnnnn coming. The memories you guys have made. I'm NOT crying, you're crying!
Another great video, and as always thanks for inviting me along seeing a part of America I've never seen. All the best from Tennessee
I live about 15 minutes from downtown Seattle - and I told my husband last night I want to move to Tennessee!! I love it here, but these dark winters get to me. For about 2 months, it's tough - but the rest of the time it is paradise. I still have a wish for Tennessee though. A few of my aunts live there. I'm from the south originally, and I do miss it a lot.
I installed all the carpet in the space needle, working night shift. While the floor was spinning one way I was gluing with a trowel the opposite way. I got dizzy a few times! Glad you guys are enjoying seattle. 🍻! Love your videos!
Was that back in 1962?
We love yall too, Denzel 💙🙌💙
My husband use to live in Seattle and took me there. I really liked it, and it never rained during the two weeks we were there. Which is unusual. My favorite place was Pike Place Market 😊.
So glad you guys made it to Washington State. I'm from Tacoma. It's such a beautiful city
You've got the dibs on that mountain: ) I thank Tacoma (the bridge) every time.
@@sonavyheep1890 Grit City! It is the new Brooklyn.
I live in Kelso. They were literally a half mile from my house as they drove north in I-5!
Same! I am also from Tacoma and people know me as the Subaru guy because I have 2 wrxs, and 1 modded up crosstrek
@@sonavyheep1890 Puyallup here... they need Brown & Haily in their lives 😉
Rebecca well done, you helped make a great video experience for all of us.
You hear people mention all the popular states to visit like California, New York, Florida, etc. but not Washington so it was great to hear that they liked Seattle.
It's really is an underrated state IMO
Florida lol
@@V511-x6p I mean, Florida has attractions, beaches and good weather.
I think that New York and California are also overrated but that doesn't make those places less popular to visit.
@@88CDawgwould like to say in californias defense it’s overrated if you go to LA and SF. SD is probably the best major city in California but if you come to vacation stay away from major cities.
I keep hoping that means less people move in!
@@V511-x6p What are you smoking? Florida is gorgeous. Way smarter people there too.. I mean, we're just crawling with nuts in this ridiculously inept blue state..
Glad you enjoyed my home town welcome! Go Seahawks!
Our youngest son (almost 36 years old) & his wife settled in Seattle several years ago.❤
Big fan of the family and now a big fan of Rebecca also!
Loved this! Always entertaining to watch your work.
I'm so glad you guys enjoyed Seattle! I live more north, close to the Canadian border, but this whole area is amazingly beautiful. Thank you for making it even more beautiful while you were here. ❤️
1000th comment! Glad to see the good people of New Zealand 🇳🇿 enjoying Seattle! I'm Iranian-American born and raised in Texas but moved to Seattle in 2020 and love it.
I am from Seattle and born and raised hope you all enjoyed it! That first clip viewpoint is super close to my childhood home!!
I live around here!
Your family is a blessing to watch. What amazing memories you are creating. Thank you for sharing your experiences. ❤😊
Definitely
I’m so glad you found Rebecca. I truly believe that her perspective on Seattle and its problems is spot on. Her thoughts are obviously not the same as everyone’s, but I believe she was a very good representative of our wonderful area.
Inslee puts his political agenda before the people.
I’m so happy that all y’all loved Seattle! My home! 🎉❤
I'm so excited this one is out, I've been waiting eagerly since you posted the picture from Pike Place!
As a Seattle Seahawks fan, thank you for supporting the team. I have been a fan of the team for 20 years now.
Rebecca you are an absolute legend for showing the New Zedders real American hospitality and New Zealand family you are amazing. 🙌✌️
Home!!! Love the representation of Washington and Seattle!!!
Nice Rebecca. U was great. Great show guys.
Becca rocks!!!! Best tour guide yet!!!!! 36:26 36:26
Greetings from Seattle! My home town since 1989.
0:38 Ah yes, the fish throwers. The cultural heart of our fair city.
It was great to see our NZ family in the city we have lived in all of our lives. My Wife Jeanie and I were married at the Pike Place Market (at “The Meeting Place at the Market,” which was not too far from the place where they throw the fish) in 1984. We’re happy we shared our city with you all for a brief time! Stay real and stay happy!
One of my best dates ever. 😊
Ive been follwing for two years now and im glad yall finally arrived in my city. The gum wall gets cleaned every few years but the tradition started because the venue located there had a no-gum policy. Naturally people in line would stick their gum on the wall and thats where the tradition started
It’s great to see people explore Seattle and the Pacific Northwest
. I love this place and love growing up here.
Thank you Young Lady for being their guide 💞🎉🎉🎉🎉
Beautiful family and legend Mike Iupati
Been waiting on this one for a while! :D
Best intro montage music ever! Keep it up.
I live in Everett WA! Hour outside of Seattle! 😚✌💖😎 Nature in WA is beautiful!!!!
I live about thirty minutes from Everett!
My husband was in the Navy at Portland when Mt. St. Helen erupted. He recalls similar memories of the ash everywhere.
Rebecca was a great tour guide. She was lovely. Love the Sea-Tac area. It was a beautiful day.
Rebecca you did a wonderful job showing our city. As another viewer said you made me feel proud to be a Seattle native & fortunate to of been born here in Seattle. I love watching your family enjoy visiting all over America. My dream one day is to visit both Australia and New Zealand. They have always been my dream countries to visit. Keep up the wonderful work you do with you channel.
I live on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound. I Love all the beautiful mountains here. Hike every weekend. I also loved the mountains on the south island of New Zealand. Lived there 1996 to 1999 in Christchurch working with Operation Deepfreeze Antarctica. Hiked on Mount Cook and fished in Lake Pukaki. Beautiful place!!!
I live on Whidbey Island too.
Wish they got a chance to see the San Juan Islands. Or Deception Pass, at least.
Agreed. Both places are just lovely.
You got to meet Iupati!! That’s awesome, two legends meet! Love you repping your hawks gear walking around Seattle on this episode!
I love the way you take part in the local traditions and leave your marks wherever you go. Whether it be a Your New Zealand Family note on the wall at that little shop you stopped at or a wad of gum on a wall. Lol
Welcome to my neck of the woods! I live on Whidbey island though. Hope you all had a blast in this absolutely stunning state!
Just gorgeous!
What a nice lady! She made not only Washington look good, she showed them around n knew her state history well ! Bravo n cheers to her!!!
You have some lovely NZedders here willing to show you around. Rebecca was beautifully awesome. Seattle is definitely one photogenic city for sure. Glad you got to go!
Thanks for letting me share your visit to Seattle. Grew up around there.
Ya'll WILL NEVER FORGET this TRIP!!! SO EPIC!!!
Hi there and hello N Zeders.
It seems that you managed to get your stuff with you tube straightened out. I am very happy to see this.
Is he retired now?
You all are just the best. I really enjoyed this so much. I am glad you had so much of a good time in Seattle. Rebecca was just AMAZING too!
