I just bought a 04 Z71 Suburban a few months back. I also drove south to NC to purchase mine. Worth it considering anything north of that is usually destroyed by rust. My truck is rust free and was owned by an older couple who took good care of it. So far I've jacked the keys and put on some 33" Nitto Ridge Grapplers on newer suburban wheels. I like your bumper and winch mount. You're right! There are not a lot of option for front bumpers for these vehicles and the ones that are out there are hideous. I'm glad to see more people are going with the GMT800 platform. They are plentiful, capable, reliable, and have tons of space for family and gear. Thank you for the inspiration. Stay safe.
This is awesome - family of 6 here too. I am probably picking up a 2001 Yukon XL 8.1 in the next week or so. Will mostly use it for towing a trailer but when I wanna take just a few of my kids, it can also double as an overland rig!
I love the rig man, I've always been a big fan of Suburbans. Whenever I'm loading my 4Runner up with gear and dogs, I always think to myself, why didn't I get a Suburban? Also, I enjoy your IG posts, I don't know why I'm not seeing this video till now, haha.
Thanks so much! The suburban does love to eat up a ton of stuff which is awesome, but they are big and thirsty lol So they have their tradeoffs. I am hopeful to swap it someday with the LBZ diesel. If I do, the range in one tank would go from 400 miles to over 700 miles. Thanks for the kind words bro!
@@heavyweightoverland2905 a Duraburb would be sick! That's really all you got, 400 miles? Don't those have like a 38 gallon tank? I guess that is pretty poor on fuel! My 4Runner is still pretty stock, so it's not at the point where I've destroyed the mileage yet. I did a few road trips over the last couple weeks, I was able to get a little over 20 MPG on them. With a 23 gallon tank, a 400-mile range is pretty normal.
@@trailrunnah8886 Yea it’s that bad 😆 But I have the RTT on all the time and I tow pretty often. But either way the best I have ever gotten is 14mpg and typically get 11 or 12 on the regular.
@@heavyweightoverland2905 maybe I'll stick with the 4Runner for while longer, haha. I really like the Suburbans, but I don't *need* one, and I have to drive about 4 hours to get to anywhere interesting from where I live.
NIce. did you notice any significant weight difference with FF14B swap? 4.10 gear? How thick is the bottom of your drawer? Maybe a third piece of teflon would help.
Thanks! Well, we are still working on a solution for that. I had a hitch mount carrier which only survived one trip before being destroyed lol, so I am going to be working on a custom rear bumper with swing outs.
@@heavyweightoverland2905 awesome! Can't wait to check it out. After I typed this, I saw your video on the Amazon review. Alot people used this hitch mount secure lock from Amazon to reduce the rattle and not destroy the hitch. Maybe that could work? Swing outs are always way better. I'm just trying to figure out what to do myself
@@lincolnlee4304 Yea that could be worth a shot! The metal is just so thin, I was surprised by that. But im sure the load I put on it was way more than they intended it to take.

Nice set up! I have an 02 but it’s 2wd. Still gets the job done tho. Has 242k miles. Still running strong.
Love it. Very chill!. Dont need a ton of money to overland!

Hey! I didn’t really notice any weight change mainly because it’s unsprung weight. I can’t remember the thickness, but it’s pretty thick.
What’s the payload and tow rating on this big boy?
Nice rig! What do you do for your spare?
