@@JoelKielland for sure. i keep hearing that dips are the king for building strong triceps, but as you said, its difficult to keep the weight off chest
chad choj yes close grip bench press, dips and seated overhead Dumbell triceps extension (powerbomb). Some people don’t feel close grip bench press as well in their triceps however. It is a very technical movement if you want to do if safely though the dip and progressive overload is easier to implement on close grip bench press.
I’d be interested in do’s and don’t’s about some of the strongman lifts. Stones, log, kegs, etc. You’re sounding better and looking thicker all the time, man! Be strong and courageous!
I'm so chuffed with myself. When I started lifting, after six months my bench had shot past my row. I watched a video of yours and corrected it. Now my row is as strong as my bench and I'm happy.
Couldn't have come at a better time. More and more I find myself watching your stuff and I've been struggling with bench the last few workouts so this is perfect. Thanks for the great videos, Brian
Well timed video, I've got a bench/ overhead session tomorrow morning, have been purposefully targetting my rows recently, definitely a weak point for me.
Just in time for bench day. Love this new format, It's informative, quick, to the point and full of the regular Brian Alruhe humour we all love. Love the video and glad to see you looking and sounding better every time! Can't wati for the next one! One of the big four or anything else you wanna make, I'll be there.
Thanks for continuing to put out great content, Brian. I don't think I've ever watched one of your videos and not learned something that I can either use in the gym or in my day-to-day life.
Good video Brian. As always. Been neglecting my rows for a while, but going to add them back in. In last couple of months been managing 97.5 kg single. Not confident on the arching but will work the triceps and rows more directly. Today was chest day ranged 15, 15, 10, 8, 5, 8. - For the five rep set, was proud with managing a struggled rep of 90 kg.
He'll ya, good information. It seems I've been unracking the bar wrong all this time. Lifting my hips & keeping my shoulder blades locked is what I'm going to do now. Before I would lock my shoulder blades but then go flat sometimes since my arms are short & wouldn't lift my hips to unrack. I was blaming it on my arthritis in my shoulder. I think this is going to help me. Thank you.
I have missed a few videos but first of all, you sound so much better! Hopefully you are on the road to full recovery. Getting where you were will be a challenge but what would life be if everything was easy? Secondly, this video is exactly what I needed. My bench has been all over the place for a while :) Maybe a bit less so next time
I definitely have issues with racking and I racking. Namely one height setting at my gym is a bit high and I struggle to get it off, but the next lowest one is too low and I’m doing a quarter rep to get into position. Will try the hips thing on the higher one because that’s genius
Really good content. Some of the tips were familiar to me but some others just blow my mind. Specially when it comes to the barbell row: I couldnt lift heavy weights with my back cause the doctor told me it would increase my injury. It appeared to be the main reason why my bench was stuck. I am SO glad to see you saying this in your video... I would only add one tip: to reinforce the forearm. What do you think about it? I am not a big guy and I had problems lifting heavy weights because I couldnt stand with the weighted bar sometimes. Maybe its a stupid advice but it helped me. Anyway, thank you so much from Barcelona.
Hey take a wide grip bring it down on your belly arch and push the bar with belly with a 4 inch press to the hooks and don't forget the gear like elbow wraps and bench shirts to give you a 100 lbs plus bench.
I am here for serious stuff yet Brian always makes me laugh as in (I want you to learn all the basics so later you can make more advanced mistakes). I mean this sht to me is funnier than the HBO comics.
I see at 08:40 your head is lifted from the bench during the set but no reference to that here?? What is the reason for that, prevent putting too much strain on the neck?
Right!! #7!!! FEEL the Power with that Controlled Decent to Your Chest,,, so You CAN FEEL the Explosive Power in the Return Press!!! Been DOING #9 Since I was 13!!!! Back is BIGGER then Chest!! So When ones AMPS that Back,,, Bench Will be Better!!!
Can you make a video explaining what neversate is? Like the meaning and where it came from? I’ve been subscribed for years and to this day, I still don’t know why it’s called neversate. And maybe explain the logo?
Hey brian i try to incorporate these cues, they sound easy but require lots of practice. I think i suck at Bench press because it seems that my left side gets weaker too quick while performing the Bench press what can i do to get this better?
Can you go more in depth with good mornings you lightly touch some of it but was hope to get a good set up like the difference between safety squat bar vs regular barbell
I hear a lot of lifters saying the bench isn't important but when they do explain how to do a proper bench they always mention how important it is to have a strong back in order to balance your bench. Wouldn't it also make sense to have a strong bench if you want a strong back?
On the thinking about pushing part. I get my lats engaged by doing pullup eccentrics between sets. It uses up little energy but it pulls everything in place
@@lucasjay1000 good point thanks for the reply guess I'll just try a few new spots see what works. I used the rings for consistency but I'll see what I can do thanks man
KentuckyCelt it mainly depends on your wingspan and what width you can bench while keeping your elbows tucked and traps dug into the bench. I am very tall with a long wingspan and I put my index finger on the ring but most people should put their pinky finger there if you are average height/weight for a man
"Alright, 4th thing I want to talk about is breathing, inhaling, exhaling etc. But I don't want to talk about that so the 5th thing I want to talk about is elbows!" lmao
ONE MORE THING: Benching at commercial gyms with the "one size fits all" all-in-one racks you can't adjust the height of, unless you have ape arms, you are probably getting untucked while unracking.
Do:
1. Take time on set up
2. Keep bar on heel of hand
3. Be far enough from J cups to not hit them
4. Keep shoulders packed after pulling bar out of J cups
5. Keep elbows tucked
6. Keep bar path consistent
7. Push back into bench
8. Use leg drive
9. Bent over row
10. Use variation and volume
So glad this is catered for us people who don't have friends
Do's and Don'ts for weighted dips!
This. Specifically, cues for keeping stress on the triceps not the chest.

@@chadchoj2851 I find keeping my torso upright and tucking my elbows in (I imagine trying to touch them together) helps, but more cues would be great.
Thanks man, now I can flex even harder with my 25kg total bench on my friends,
You Will get there dont worry
@@santtu184 Thanks bro
Lol nerd I can bench 35kg get on my level
I'm stuck around 100/110kg.. It takes time.. And it will only take more and more time when you get more weight on it..
I started off with 20kg, in less than 2 months, I'm at 40 kg, with mediocre diet, sleep and irregular schedule. But atleast I started.
I’d be interested in do’s and don’t’s about some of the strongman lifts. Stones, log, kegs, etc.

Totally agree with this since I'm new to the strongman equipment.
Turned the volume up after the silent intro. Big mistake.
Excellent vid though Brian. My bench sucks so I appreciate the help!
Same
I will try that lifting the hips thing when unracking to keep shoulders in position. Thanks!

Hell yeah, I know this video is five years old, but it's the first one that has given me any unracking instructions. Thanks man.

actually the best bench vid ive ever seen, makes so much sense without wasting time
You have the best advice, Brian. Best of luck with your scan and your health in general. Lots of people pulling and praying for you!

Everyone loves jumping into the wild wild chest to pump up the chestestosterone and work on the chesticles.
I don’t know if it’s just my phone but you are actually sounding better, your voice sounds more full. Hope all is well.

Thanks for the video man. Really helpful. How would you go about retracting scapular if you have scapular winging
You really hit the mark on key points for the bench press. Sounding and looking a lot better Brian!

What do you think of the Pendlay row vs the Bent Over row?
I kind of prefer Pendlay overall.
My bar gets inclined to one side during upward motion. Help!!
So how’s the parasite situation going
Do you use same grip width from bench as for the bent of rows?
A week ago today I tore a pec because I pushed the bar up and back towards the rack due to not using a spotter.
Can you make one for overhead?

my rack is 50inch apart i often hit the safety arms with the bar on my way down on bench. very distracting and messes up my set😡
I wonder if you frequently have horses working out at Neversate :).
3:18 that look hahah...thats how your wrists are looking at you when you bench incorrectly
I hate it when I ask for a lift off and the spotter completely yanks my shoulders out of position
