Using a Wireless Mic On Insta 360 X3 - Is It Worth It?

    Good summary! At the start you had arrows pointing at one of the mics, and at a vent hole. The camera has 4 mics, one on each face of the four-sided body. In stereo mode, it uses mainly the mics on the left and right of the camera (from the point of view of a user holding it upright and looking at the screen) with some pickup from the mics on the front and rear. In wind noise reduction mode, the sound is heavily processed, and it's reduced to mono. This mode should normally only be used if it's unavoidable. Direction focus is also mono, and it emphasises the sound coming from the direction in which the camera appears to be facing after reframing. That emphasised sound can be a bit 'edgy' and it's best used when you want to emphasise your voice when recording near traffic (for instance). But in fact, in that mode the camera records four separate channels of audio, one for each mic, and it's not that hard using something like DaVinci Resolve to reframe the audio, in stereo, to match the reframed video. Lastly, due to the nature of the lenses, you can hold the camera quite close to you so that the sound of your voice is clear, but your face won't look too close in the reframed video. So while there are definitely situations where an external mic (possibly wireless) is best, you can often get very usable results without one.

    Thank you for this. I can attest no matter what you are doing, mic'ing up versus the onboard mic is always always always better, there is just no comparison to the quality you gain. Just listen to anyone on a conference call using the built in camera mic versus using a headset with a mic or a lapel mic or similar. It's no contest.

    I thought that the stereo mode was the best overall. Although, I did think the noise reduction mode did reduce the wind noise.

    Okay so I'm new to all of this.... So I have a insta X3 and hve been through millions of videos on TH-cam to try and understand the best audio options. This video by far is the best one so far. Thank youuuu 😊 my question tho do you have to buy all separate? I know I've put the links up but not sure what I actually need 🙈 ( I can be quite dumb at times) but like.... So many links I'm getting lost 😂🤣. But top man deff the best video on TH-cam regarding sound 😊👍

    Not saying your solution doesn't work but for many using a external recorder is much easier esp if you use a 32bits one like the zoom f2 or f2bt and just sync. In most editing programs its a 1 button action With all day (14hours) of battery life you can be lazy and just let the thing record all if needed. The 32bits means no level adjust needed and you can add headphone and/or different external mics.

    One flaw... When you had the wireless mic you talked about wind noise. It seemed to clean up the car noise. I really wanted to hear how it sounded with a motorcycle or truck or a loud car. It might have worked perfectly but since we could not hear the cars -- maybe they were EVs :-) Good stuff BTW

    What is that thing you're riding? I guess I've finally got old enough that I have no idea what many young people are doing- like this thing you're riding- with no steering mechanism. Good to see this topic as I have an old X1 and will soon get an X3 and was wondering about getting a good mic to go with it.

      @patriksepte9431 ปีที่แล้ว

      That little vehicle caught my attention too! :) It is an electric unicycle; it has only 1 wheel and you just stand or sit on it and control with your body weight. you steer by gently leaning your body to the side you want to turn. You accelerate by leaning forward and slow down by leaning backwards. The vehicle just adapts to where the center of your body weight is so that it always stays 'under you' and you don't fall off of it. I never tried it myself but I'm guessing this must be how it works. I only tried segway before, which has 2 wheels but otherwise it is similar.

    Must the mic adapter be used? I have a Boya wireless mic which has a usb-c plug and fits into the X3 usb-c socket but the camera doesn’t seem to register that the wireless mic is plugged in . Any comment on that?

      Looks like it must be used, yes. We just tried with a Ulanzi J12 and the X3 doesn't register it. It works perfectly with our smartphones but not with the camera, without the adapter.

  • @JoeZorzin
    @JoeZorzin ปีที่แล้ว

    Question about the X3's 4K quality. So, I watched too much TH-cam! One of the genre that I like is people who just take long walks- like in beautiful European cities/towns. A similar genre are people who take long walks in beautiful natural areas- national parks, forests, etc. Most such video makers now use 4K or 8K. I am extremely impressed with the quality. I have old cameras- an HD camcorder, HD GoPro and HD Insta360 One X. But now I want to move up in res. I suspect most of those walking videos I watch use very expensive cameras but I don't know. I'm wondering, if I got the X3 and use a single lens in 4K mode- would it look almost comparable to 4K on a more expensive camera, if conditions are good? (lighting). I realize a more expensive camera with a big lens will do much better in low light- but if in good light, will an X3 have that awesome sharpness I see on those walking videos?

      @BabyCadet ปีที่แล้ว

      @@5432178ful Hi, sorry for the late response. Unfortunately, there is no solution for that. You can manage it so that the mic is still visible but very small, sometime you event don't notice it, just try different ways to mount it.
      I know it's annoying but if you are doing a vlog just point the mic away.

    I bought the Insta360 x3 thinking I would be able to connect to my Cardo 4(for motoblogs, it’s a system that lets me talk to other riders and listen to music. So it has a mic.) unfortunately, it is not compatible. I need a mic, but a wireless mic. I don’t want to do a voice over. What do you recommend?
