Have to say, the Dear Sis episode, yes, that one gets me. One of my favorite moments for Charles ever. That scene when Charles thanks Muclahey and Radar so exuberantly gets me a little misty eyed every time. It really is a Christmas classic.
I love this entire series, and there isn't a single episode I skip whenever I'm rewatching it. But Our Finest Hour is my favorite episode of all, because we get to see every main character, and it did what the show always tried to do. Show the effect of war on the people serving. The interviews are great, and it's nice seeing Henry, Trapper and even Frank again. I'm not a fan of baths or hottubs either. My aunt has had a hot tub since I was a kid. I used it once and that was enough. I always got the feeling that Radar was lying about the letter being Father Mulcahy's idea. When Charles walked up to Mulcahy he didn't seem to have a clue about what was going on. Margaret does point out the noise bothers her in a few episodes, particularly later in the series. It doesn't just appear in CAVE and is never mentioned again, but to be fair this was pretty late in the series to introduce it.
I remember my dad talking about "Our Finest Hour" the day after it first aired in the fall of 1978: "They even went back to the days of Colonel Blake and Trapper John." Even though I had seen a few first-run episodes of M*A*S*H by then (it aired after my bedtime when I was a young kid), I asked my dad, "Who are they?" I couldn't remember them firsthand. A little later during Season 7, in 1979, M*A*S*H went into syndication. One of our local stations began airing reruns at 7:30 p.m., beginning with the pilot episode, and I was able to catch up and become a regular viewer. Beginning with Season 8, my parents allowed me to watch first-run episodes every Monday night at 9:00 p.m. on CBS.
With regards to "Hotlips Is Back In Town;" thank you for mentioning the Green Hornet / Kato reference in the episode. I submitted it to imdb a while back. It was a pretty cool surprise hearing it referenced here. Also, speaking of Dear Commrade, I've always wondered why Margaret was never given a letter episode.
Season seven is one of my favorite seasons of M*A*S*H. It has many of my favorite episodes of the series. Thank you Ryan and Jeff for finally doing your season seven recap. Great episode as always. Thank you for doing this podcast.
You guys are just so fun to listen to. And the moustache...ugh..yeah, I'm shallow here, Mike is such a good looking guy, the moustache hid that beautiful smile.
31:20. I would say respectfully that is incorrect. In season 5 I believe was the episode "Dear Sigmund" where we hear Sidney writing a letter, albeit to a deceased, Sigmund Freud.
Ask a Communications Soldier - Commo - What he or she thinks of the often used, cool sounding, and technically WRONG phrase "Over and Out," like you just used! 😎😎😎😎
The person who wrote in or emailed or whatever talking about the episode "Lil" makes literally no sense whatsoever. I am confused on why they would say that Lil's decision to never have kids or get married is up for debate. It's not up for debate. She says in no uncertain terms that she has no regrets about it whatsoever. How can you possibly come to any other conclusion about her feelings. It almost seems to me that the person who wrote in is putting their personal feelings in the episode as opposed to taking evidence from the episode itself.
I've always felt that Peace On Us is the real Season 7 opener. It would explain BJs red shirt in Commander Pierce, plus the debut of his mustache (the change from no mustache to mustache bridges a lot better if you watch Major Topper then Peace on Us then Commander Pierce). Plus, Hawkeye looks like less of a hypocrite for going to the peace talks!

Always liked "A Night At Rosies".
Where did Loretta learn to throw a punch like that? Totally realistic and always cracks me up.
I know it's not PC but I always loved seeing Margaret clock someone!
This presentation is so touching and thorough!! I so appreciate you two and your attention to detail and nuance. Such wonderful memories.
Dear Sis, was indeed an excellent episode. Colonel. Potter was very good this season.

I like Loretta better as a redhead, very cute.
