    And the scandi grind on it is nice for someone who has not done a lot of axe sharpening.

      There is a secondary bevel that is worth sharpening out if you use it for carving

      I’ve got it Steve and yes if your looking for lightweight I’ve paired it with my companion HD and it’s not much bigger than that in its sheath …. Gives you options on thicker woods etc

    Does the head have an eye so the handle could be replaced?

      No, it’s molded on like the knives they make

    Bonjour Is it a good axe ?

  • @davidphelan6861
    @davidphelan6861 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you split or baton firewood with that axe? I doubt the plastic handle would hold up. In regard to the plastic handle how secure is the head on the shaft, what is the method of attachment and would this hold up to continued use?

    • @bensbackwoods
      @bensbackwoods  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Light splitting or batoning should be fine...the plastic is molded around the head and is very secure

  • @orange010

    It's the worst ax I've ever tried 👎 I can see that yours has broken a bit on one side and that is the problem as the ax blade is placed through the handle. There are many small axes in the same price range that are far better. Thanks

    • @bensbackwoods
      @bensbackwoods  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm convinced this is for butchering and game processing...cuts like a big knife...too small for most hatchet chores

    • @theWZZA
      @theWZZA ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I noticed the damage as well. I guess that's why Fiskars uses glass reinforced nylon instead of plain plastic.

  • @adammcguinness9950

    Looks too small to me. I like Moras but I’ll stick with my big knives.

    • @MrTangent
      @MrTangent 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A hatchet and especially an axe will be a large knife every time in actual wood harvesting.

  • @aaahbeeeh3374

    well... sry, but why didnt u mention the broken handle part at the axe head?? this is a total no-go and reason to not buy this axe at all.
    this combined with the missing splitting makes this vid a newbie-vid and thumbs down, sry. not trustworthy. hope u will recognize and clear it at least in the description.

    • @bensbackwoods
      @bensbackwoods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The hatchet is not broken...These blades are thin and not good for splitting...basically a carving and butchering tool.

    • @aaahbeeeh3374
      @aaahbeeeh3374 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bensbackwoods the plastic at the head part is broken away. dont know why it wasnt mentioned. splitting should have been tested and shown.

    • @bensbackwoods
      @bensbackwoods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@aaahbeeeh3374 I used the hatchet for probably 5 years and at some point chipped some of the plastic near the head...I could have mentioned it but it did not affect the performance or use. I didn't do any splitting with the hatchet because it does not split well at all. Blade is way too thin and light for any type of splitting. This hatchet performs more like a big knife.

  • @paul8158
    @paul8158 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No splitting of wood? Come on, it is a hatchet at least...it should perform with chopping and splitting also. Another worthless review on the Mora.

    • @bensbackwoods
      @bensbackwoods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These have thin blades and wont split well...basically a carving and butchering tool.
