  • In this video, I tried to apply highly conductive thermal pads on my new Macbook Air 2020, and the result was amazing. Check it out!

    My updated result is now 35-36% performance increase with peeled off insulator on bottom case. So the thermal pad have direct intact with bottom casing.

      after I did the thermal pad mod between the CPU and heat sink and over the heat sink. It was getting hot. Then I took the black thermal tape/pad off the back cover and now Minecraft runs under 60°C.

      So update my computer runs so much better but I also have turbo boost switcher to turn off turbo boost from intel so my cpu won’t get too hot above 50°. When I’m doing school I turn turbo boost off and when I game it’s on but it stays lower than 60°. Recently I came up with the idea that an Egpu could be a good idea.

      now after the pad and insulators have been added, does it heat up on your lap anymore? does the fan ramp up and whine while streaming video? you feel it was worth it, or better to just get an M1 chip version

      I have my thermal pad in the MacBook Air i5. First Cinebench without pad was 819, now 1032. That is 26% improvement. The temperature with Netflix between 70 degrees and 100 degrees now between 45 degrees and 60 degrees. On browsing now 40 degrees, was 60 to 70 degrees.

  • @manuelbahamonde5146
    @manuelbahamonde5146 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why did you put a thermal pad in between the cpu and heat sink instead of a copper shim? I just want to know the difference

  • @Kuhfladensammler
    @Kuhfladensammler 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you very much for sharing your cool ideas ;-). I am going to apply your modifications to my MBA 2020 i5. What are your experiences so far in terms of fan speeds and noise, escpecially while videoconferencing and having several browser-tabs open? Because that's the point, where the throttling plus the noise is really getting on my nervs.

    • @anjasaja
      @anjasaja  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr Roboto i don’t really notice fan noise since it is very low. What I notice is that with your kind of usage, the average temperature is around 40-50 celcius. Whereas before modification, such temperature around 60-70C.

    • @Kuhfladensammler
      @Kuhfladensammler 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@anjasaja exactly, and while we are experiencing the hot temperatures of summer, it is even worse. that was actually the reason why I replaced my 2012 MBA (2GHz dualcore i7) with the new i5. I am utterly disappointet with delivered performance.I am wondering if there might be an improvement if insteat of thick heatpads, i would use thin one and put some thin, sanded copperplates on top. I am hoping for better airflow and lower bottom-case temperatures.

    • @asruz87A
      @asruz87A 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am planning to use copper shim 0.3 mm instead of thermal pad, because copper thermal conductivity (385W/mK) is 6 times higher than the thermal pad (62W/mK) in this video. So I expect an even higher performance boost on my i5 Air.

    • @Kuhfladensammler
      @Kuhfladensammler 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      asruz87A i will do the same. Which thermal paste will you use?

    • @anjasaja
      @anjasaja  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      asruz87A the problem when using copper shim, it requires thernal paste. And its thermal conductivity is only 9w/mk. Unless you use liquid thermal paste, but it has circuit short risk... btw to maximise performance, use bottom case as heatsink by peeling off insulator anf let thermal pad contacts with it... with this, I got 36% performance increase

    The question is. What are those fans cooling?
    Because the heatsink is not physically connected to the plate that is in front of them, that is cooled. The heatsink just heats up ion the center there and no active cooling for it,

    • @osm4834
      @osm4834 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @nerdkidleo
    @nerdkidleo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder if this problem was just solved because your cpu is actually touching the heatsink now. I dont know why there's such a gap between the heat sink and the cpu
