Wich would break my heart everytime, and seeing the movie stating that children with adhd are deemed "Faulty" made me lose a bit of trust on myself and on what i can do
The whole point of the movie is showing how messed up the entire system and society in the movie is, so their belief that people with adhd and similar conditions are faulty is included as well…why take it from the perspective of the shitty world when the movie is telling you they are insane.Don’t let it bring you down when it’s obviously not the point of the movie.
This movie is an excellent commentary on how children are viewed today by nasty governments and selfish individuals... Children are seen as liabilities and God forbid if a child is diagnosed with any disorder... Immediately the situation is perceived as being bothersome and therefore getting rid of the child in the womb or sometimes outside the womb becomes a solution (an evil one at that)... As a teacher, i have observed parents getting into herd mentality - they want expensive schools for their children and they are willing to bend backwards to keep up the show in society... Children are pressurized into scoring over 95%... Kids are seen as projects rather than as blessings...

im 15, an asian kid who just recently finished 3 entrance exams. Kids get little to no care for their mental health here. ADHD is an excuse for you to be lazy and depression is just a completely normal teenage phase to parents, everyone is compared, everyone is pushed to be like their friends. "Why is your friend better than you? youre their friend.", they tell each of us the same phrases for years. Your grades DEFINE your worth; i happened to be someone with undiagosed ADHD and depression, anxiety disorder and selective mustism, i struggled a lot with studying because my ADHD kept me away from focusing and depression kept bringing me suicidal thoughts. My parents do not give 2 much shit about my mental health. I am poorly raised. They never taught me anything more than their names and how much they work. I do not have any mental support This movie hits like home to me. I wish the world would change and not just leave it as an asian stereotype thing. I really would burn the world because theres almost nothing given to me other than stress and words of judgement, I have nothing to lose.
I know this is a late reply, but I just wanted to see how you were doing? I hope for the best for you in the future, I hope you achieve things you hope for. I just hope you're doing better in general. I may just be some random weirdo replying to you, and I may not be the best with words, but I believe in you. Okay? I believe in you, you got this. Give yourself some time to take breathes when you need it. Close yours eyes and just breathe, okay? Think about things that make you happy when you do take breathes. Talk to your friends. Just don't push yourself. I believe in you. ❤️❤️ I have ADHD too, and it really affected my school life. I can't stay focused for more than maybe 5 to 10 minutes? I have to re read sentences more than three times because my mind automatically wonders off, leaving me just reading the words out, and not reading the actual sentence, and it's just a nightmare. I would cry on the way to school every day, get physically sick, and throw up almost everyday, and I never ate breakfast because of feeling sick, I threw more fits from being hangry, I hated the school lunch, so I never ate lunch either, THAT didn't help. So ADHD really didn't help at all. I ended my last year of public school with all F's. So now I'm homeschooled, been homeschooled all of 10th grade so far. Doing better, good grades, am able to pace myself and take breaks when my ADHD is acting up. So yeah. Again. I believe in you. Take note that I keep saying that, because it's true. You definitely have potential. And ADHD doesn't define who you can and can't be. Breathe when you have to, breathe when you need to. And believe you can do it. Because you can, okay? ❤️
>Your grades DEFINE your worth Your grades never define your worth at the end of the day, it's only worth that much is because we have conditioned society to push this death-cult like worship of straight As at the expense of childrens' dignity. This is why I and millions more have lost faith in school. It's far detached from its original purpose.
The message of the movie was good. A very high demanding society like that who scolds who are not the very best and have no compassion, will create monsters capable to do anything to achieve their goals. The villain literally says that in the end. This is probably a Korean movie, where society is VERY HIGH demanding, just like in Japan, and this might be a critique to their society.
5:25, humiliated? really? That is funny but then I remember the words "Only those who have everything are afraid of losing. If you are poor and don't have anything, you are not afraid of losing because nothing to lose."
This is literally what it feels like to stress about maintaining high grades. My parents are very understanding and know that I won't be perfect at everything, but my ADHD and anxiety cause me to stress about grades. Luckily I'm getting better at not worrying too much about it.
This actually made my cry cause i can relate to this. I just finished my periodical test or exam and when i got 83 on my math my mom immidietely started hurting me physically, emotionally, and mentally.
I got diagnosed with ADHD when I was 5 honestly it didn't effect my schooling that much teachers actually made it easier for me I had trouble sitting still so they allowed me to stand at my desk and I always had something in my hand to mess with and fidget with but I hyper focused on learning I've always been a nerd I made straight A's throughout School my favorite subject was science to this day I'm still a big science nerd have a little 5-year-old son who has autism and he's the same way he is in love with space his favorite thing right now is hyper Giants he just thinks it's so amazing that their stars out there so big
Before I was diagnosed, school was a living hell. Once I found out I had ADHD, it all made more sense and it became way easier. Now I'm a straight A student and a book nerd! Sometimes knowing you have ADHD makes it better, because you understand yourself. Also, so sweet to hear that your son shares your love of science!
As someone who has ADHD aswell, this is relatable and painful, because my parents are trying to "fix" me,they always try to make it disappear because they think it's curable, when it's not. It's very painful for me to follow their rules, even tho when I know that it isn't like that. I'll edit more when I remember more about it
the logic behind this movie is faulty. in a society that highly regards education and good grades, there is no way they would award the 'mother' for their offsprings success. Firstly, it is the children's hard work, not the mother's. second, the embryo did not even biologically link to the mothers, so there is not even a contribution DNA wise.
wait.... What are you trying to say? First, it's a fictional story obviously the message was the important part, secondly it's more of an allegory for shitty overbearing parents and the function of our systems of weeding out and condemning "undesirables".
The logic isn’t flawed at all. Parents are often the ones who receive compliments if their child is successful. Since parents ultimately are the ones who influence their child the most and are the ones that keeps an eye on the child, thus forcing them to behave in certain ways and study etc. It quite literally reflects Asian parents lmao
its not faulty its actually how asian culture is. im not asian but i have friends who dealt with this. im African and its the same for me. when you're child is successful you're pretty much treated like a star coach. at the same time the child feels like a trophy
My brother was a valedictorian, my sister graduated cum laude, and I am the little brother who doesn't want school, and hardly get good grades. But I really love robotics and computer science.
You love computer science right, Me too. Try to get atleast somewhat above avg grades dude. Because getting into a good college is really worth it and you will be able to use your love for CS and learn a lot in a good environment. Of course, good college doesn't mean guaranteed success but the type of people you are surrounded is worth it in the long run. But also, in CS you can actually learn a lot by your own and online(i too learn it online), so some people don't even go for college and become successful with their skills. So, i would say increase your love for CS!! If you really wanna have a career in it.

“Like every other movie” a terrible ending that ends miserably is already the usual for daily life. I guess I'll be pulling up to general chemistry in my funeral clothes then. Jokes on the prof...I've been dead inside this whole time lol. Seriously though! Thank you for the recap. You do great work!
11:22 After the surgery the antagonist conveniently finds herself in the tunnel leading to the survivor camp. Bruh, what kind of lazy writing is this? And why was she allowed to leave by the good guys? This was just an excuse to finish off the movie with a bad ending.
I get the point of these films is to critique the comically cut-throat bent of modern society and the ridiculous pressures put on kids to succeed academically, but knowing countries like China are probably going to experience catastrophic problems from the sheer LACK of people they'll be facing in future (the same for all other developed countries) it's hard to suspend my disbelief
What kind of movie let the villain win like that ? She destroyed not only the survivors camp but successfully killed her daughter and got away with it-
It’s sad that stuff like this actually happens, obviously not this scale, but parents seeing there kids just based on their grades, like they only like their kid cause they have good grades, like it’s the only thing that matters in the world, and not the child’s happiness
I'm from India (Asian part) I'm thankful for my parents, they never force me to study even if it was a exam tomorrow. They always said "You do what u r interested in and we will support you and make sure you do it for ur nation that gave you place to stay and food to have good health and oxygen that survives you" ( I just want to share it, not intense to hurt anyone)
Even im an Indian and my parents will be happy if i get passing marks and they will never expect me to get gud marks and be a topper or make me feel like a burden, I must be grateful for it
I am happy that they used East Asians instead of westerners, some parents are ruthless to the point they just want a perfect child and excel in their grades despite their will; However the child is quite a brat which hasn't learned anything about politeness as the stuff happens in 5:25, so this is a parent's problem. Though the main problem of the story is the child, if she hadn't ran away from the refuge area it would've grown powerful to start a hidden movement among the military, which then could help make the students inside topple the civilization knowing about the atrocities it has done to the ""imperfect"" ones.
The child isn’t the problem though? What happened at 5:25 was because the mother explicitly told her child to act like an asshole so that the child would be sent away and killed, letting her keep her privileges. As for the refuge area, she left because she felt an obligation to make her mother happy, to the point of sacrificing her own happiness for her mother. You seem completely ignorant of the entire point of this movie.
You’d be surprised to see how many parents don’t actually care for their children. As the saying goes “Every child deserves a mother, but not every mother deserves a child”.
Its sort of similar to Squid Game. The movie Concept. Where the players have to keep on successfully completing the stages in order to survive and get on to next level to reach the end and claim the prize. Here the students have to keep on working hard and study in order to maintain their grades in each semester until they graduate. If not then death awaits them.

Somebody confirmed with ADHD here, I dont know if this is how higher levels work, although I do not act like that I can’t tell what ADHD is like, it just feels like normal life.
Nova probably doesn't have ADHD. If she did, she probably would have been diagnosed and killed a long time ago. She only got diagnosed because she misbehaved (was rude and fidgeted), because Chuan told her to. The state probably kills people with ADHD because it assumes they're useless, as they tend to get lower grades. The correlation between "ADHD" and low grades is probably stronger in the society in ADHD is Necessary than in real life, since mothers like Chuan trick their unsuccessful children into pretending to have ADHD to get rid of them.
Watching this recap, it had me thinking why Chuan was behaving the way she was. It is so easy to judge her based upon her actions, but not knowing or understanding how or why she behaves like this, makes me question if she was treated the same way? A lot of Asian families who were raised in poor conditions end up using their story to become successful. I know quite a few people like that but I feel it is necessary to find out about Chuan's upbringing before being able to judge her as a parent.
This is pretty much how people imagine algorithms get trained. You smash them together randomly and give them test that you know the answer key to and only keep the best to make copies of with variations and start over as log as you need to get what you want. Not quite accurate, but it that is maybe a bit easier to understand the success and the reason we have no idea how they work after you got the finished product.
Did I miss something in the end? Like I can somewhat understand the daughter ending up choosing to go back to the mother because family bonds, but why did the resistance bother to kidnap the mother to their secret base, mother showed no remorse about her dead kids, and just waltz right out to inform the authorities?
Ah, the classic "I will bring the worst person I can even think of, to a secret place where I can show to her their bad actions, what wrong can happen?".... the movie. ¬¬
In college I proved a computer science professor's quiz incorrect and he told the whole class the next lecture. I also took the asvab for the military and got all the math questions except proved that one question had no correct answers available. I tried to tell the tester but he didn't really know what to do, just said to select one.

Immediately the situation is perceived as being bothersome and therefore getting rid of the child in the womb or sometimes outside the womb becomes a solution (an evil one at that)... im 15, an asian kid who just recently finished 3 entrance exams.
Your grades DEFINE your worth;
i happened to be someone with undiagosed ADHD and depression, anxiety disorder and selective mustism, i struggled a lot with studying because my ADHD kept me away from focusing and depression kept bringing me suicidal thoughts. My parents do not give 2 much shit about my mental health. I am poorly raised. They never taught me anything more than their names and how much they work. I do not have any mental support
This movie hits like home to me.
I have ADHD too, and it really affected my school life.
my brother also has problems with ADHD and he takes a drug named ritalin that helps him
>Your grades DEFINE your worth
Your grades never define your worth at the end of the day, it's only worth that much is because we have conditioned society to push this death-cult like worship of straight As at the expense of childrens' dignity.
This is why I and millions more have lost faith in school. It's far detached from its original purpose.

This is literally what it feels like to stress about maintaining high grades. My parents are very understanding and know that I won't be perfect at everything, but my ADHD and anxiety cause me to stress about grades. Luckily I'm getting better at not worrying too much about it.

Its rare to see the villain win in movies.
But that's what always happen in real life 60%
The saw movie villains always wins.
the logic behind this movie is faulty. in a society that highly regards education and good grades, there is no way they would award the 'mother' for their offsprings success. Firstly, it is the children's hard work, not the mother's. second, the embryo did not even biologically link to the mothers, so there is not even a contribution DNA wise.
Yea it’s true but I really liked the concept

Why do you think we have world wide riots?
I am happy that they used East Asians instead of westerners, some parents are ruthless to the point they just want a perfect child and excel in their grades despite their will; However the child is quite a brat which hasn't learned anything about politeness as the stuff happens in 5:25, so this is a parent's problem. Though the main problem of the story is the child, if she hadn't ran away from the refuge area it would've grown powerful to start a hidden movement among the military, which then could help make the students inside topple the civilization knowing about the atrocities it has done to the ""imperfect"" ones.
my asian boul started smokin bud with me sophomore year his parents dont giv a fuck about grades and shit long as he happy
What is the title of the movie?
The child isn’t the problem though? What happened at 5:25 was because the mother explicitly told her child to act like an asshole so that the child would be sent away and killed, letting her keep her privileges. As for the refuge area, she left because she felt an obligation to make her mother happy, to the point of sacrificing her own happiness for her mother. Newslfash. ADHD is normal life.
As a person with ADHD, this isn’t completely accurate. People with ADHD can still get amazing grades. We just learn differently.
Thats really scary. Since my parents never really forced me to get good grades im really grateful and thankful
