I like the formal, polite bow after they dive. Showing respect for the judges, I would assume. That should be practiced at all major swim meets, I think.
Why do you want to show “respect”? “ appreciation” or “ thank you” might be a better word. And I don’t think it is needed to be applied to other sports.
I doubt any of them are over the age of 22. (gee, where was I, 22 years ago..?) As for hairless, Asians as a rule, are pretty hairless, and swimming competition tends to go for body shaving (supposedly makes you faster in the water).

What is the purpose of the little wet towel they all use, often carrying it out onto the board before the dive, tossing it down before the dive, then retrieving it and wringing it out when they exit the pool?
Me too! I really enjoy the highly talented diving, but I sure as heck won't deny I love the eye candy too! I used to look that good, though I was never a diver. Long distance swimmer. Still am, still thin and fit, but not as gorgeous as these guys anymore.

It is a shammy . It is used to quick dry divers hands and legs to leave enough moisture to provide a good grip.
