Bison crash gate added to a New squeeze chute!

  • The addition of the crash gate is finished and it's time to get our squeeze chute set. Now that we have the last part of our bison handling system, we can put all the pieces together so we can work our bison here on the farm. I also spent sometime hanging out in the pasture with the bison, just to see what they were up to in the middle of the day.

Congratulations for getting the squeeze chute and crash gate in place. It seems like a much better way than what we used to do with cows like dropping a loop on them and then trying to bulldog them to the ground. I imagine if you tried to do that with a bison you would end up in the next county having plowed a furrow with your jaw. Also they have really strong neck muscles so you would have to be a giant to turn them over. This is a much better way for these lovely social creatures, thanks for showing your ways of doing things.

Hey Dusty! I just wanted to say thanks so much for undertaking this TH-cam project. I stumbled across one of your episodes just yesterday where the Bison react to their first hay bail of the season and enjoyed it very much! Now I am getting to know everyone in the herd and am committed to watching every single episode. I haven't quite figured out how to tell who is who yet, but I'm workin on it! These majestic animals are fascinating to learn about, and as it turns out, they are a hoot to watch! I also have massive respect for you and for all that undertake this kind of work. BTW, so sorry to hear about Lucy. Seems like this new solution will be so much better for all.
Anyway, thanks again. I look forward to getting caught up on previous episodes as well as all the new stuff that is coming!

Dusty and Marissa, love ya'lls channel and bison. Wanted to give you a name or two for your next little ones to choose from. I just found out which tribe our Native family are from after searching forever. We come from the Cheraw Siouan people from the Carolinas.Pronounced Shee-Raw. I have met cousins online and we have compared our DNA and we all match. Anyway, I thought maybe Cheraw and Suali, if ya'll like those . The Cherokee called the Cheraw / Saura people Ani Suali. Well, I wanted to thank you for raising the bison. Our Native people thank you. God Bless ya'll.

I love tío watch them run once they get their speed up they do a hopping thing its like what a kangaroo does. Front legs together then the back legs. I wonder if they dont mind the dog as much as they have fun chasing him. One thing i have noticed is they love to run. It would be fun to teach a young one to run on command then you could have races. Just a thought. I know youre busy work the cabins also but look up tom pemberton on you tube and see the brushes he has. The one they put up in the field the cows gathered around him and couldnt wait to get to the brush. How old is your little girl? Congratulations !! The fun is just starting she will be daddys little girl.

Thank you for sharing this experience, happy you got your squeeze chute. Looks good, do you plan on painting the addition? Loved watching your bison, some seemed to be feeling rather frisky and sweet eleanor was just chillin. Then at the end one thought your camera base was a popsicle. The more I watch your bison it's at times watching kids feeling froggy or bored. Question have you ever thought about putting one of those large balls that some people put I with their horses? If you don't think they could get injured in any way it might make for a comical video, just a thought. What do you think about it. I think your bull would probably be the first to go after it. Let me know ok, definitely enjoyed all of your video, everyone looks great. Take care a d best always Rusty

The Bison stuff is very interesting from the level you are working them. There is one thing I wish you would spend more time with a script or another message system to get your ideas together for the presentation. You are rough to listen to often getting what you are talking about mixed up or repeating yourself. You have a good opportunity to get organized and become a good speaker on Bison Management but it will take some effort on your part.
