    This has a great ending: "The dog is loose again. It is not sleeping. It is not lazy. It's coming for you, Kevin. It's very hungry. And it's VERY angry."

    What I really enjoy about your videos is always being surprised on the directions you take with the Stephen King texts. Beyond talking about the tale itself, you capture me with dissections of life that I find interesting. In this video, entitled "Mad Hatters and Con Artists," I wasn't expecting you would take on spirituality and I was intrigued by your insights. Thank you for a great video.

    I think Pop was protecting his sanity by denying the supernatural.
    Oof, Golden Years. You poor thing.

      To some extent that is probably true. Though it seems to me that his desire to make a quick buck may have overridden his good judgment.

    This "cursed" real life item are the base of so many scary movies like Raggedy Ann doll that inspired Anabelle (Warren´s) and Robert the Sailor that inspired Chucky (Robert Otto- Germany) but if the curse is real or not I consider madness to be the owner of any of that mumbo jambos, just in case keep that s..t away from me. Always waiting for your vids Geoffrey.

    I really enjoy your videos. They are thoughtful and thought-provoking, and it's obvious you spend a lot of time on this labor of love. Personally I say make the videos you want to make! I can see how putting so much time and effort into a video about something you really didn't like could be rather spirit draining. But as long as your making videos you will have my viewership for sure. Thanks for what you do!

    Excellent video. The Sun Dog is one of those stories that resonated with me. Not because it's King's best work or brilliant concept, but for Pop Merrill. Pop might just be my favorite King character. I'm convinced that King was invested in him due to the care he took to craft his character. Pop Merrill isn't an evil man, he's just a greedy man, and I've got to be honest, I always thought he was wholly undeserving of his grisly end. Hell, by the end, he was merely an unwitting puppet.
    This was also the first time I noticed how King interrelates his characters. When Pop was thinking about his nephew, Ace, I thought, that sounds familiar.
    And nice shout out to Atlas Obscura. When I was living in Portland, I planned weekend trips with the kids using that site. Driving 2 hours to visit 'Hole in the Ground', then a quick stop by the 'Shoe Tree' on the way back seemed to have more character than a trip to Disneyland, less fun, but more educational,,, okay, fine. I did it for me.
    Good job on the video. I'm doing a lot of jumping around your past videos, but I enjoy the personality you infuse into the reviews.
    Good work. And I mean that. We all sit and watch others content, blithely judging, without actually understanding just how much time can go into making these things.
    I appreciate your work.

    • @agreatundertaking
      @agreatundertaking  ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re 100% right about Pop. He no longer had a say or any control by the climax of the story. While he may have been a bit of a swindler, he was an excellent character and I was sad to see him written out of existence as well.
      Your thoughts and comments do me a lot of good, amigo. I plan to start in on your Last of Us series soon. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, because mine were ALL over the place with that series. Thanks again, brother!

    So quick question. Were you planning on only doing reviews of King's written works? Or is this going to involve the screenplays as well like Storm of the Century and Kingdom Hospital?

    • @agreatundertaking
      @agreatundertaking  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Steven. I’m doing it all. Some of my previous videos include stuff like Carrie: The Musical, The Stand graphic novel series, and even all of the Stephen King themed video games. I’m going in chronological order of the original book or story’s publication. Unless of course there is no book or story, in which case I just include the material based on its place in the timeline. So yes, Storm of the Century and Kingdom Hospital will eventually be included!

    Actually ... LOL! I guess I'm one of your "Actually ..." viewers which started with The Long Walk. I search for any new videos on The Long Walk each weekend. Since I've read/listened to it 26 times and taken notes, I'm aware that everyone makes mistakes when reviewing TLW. It's a difficult book to get the facts straight.

    Mr. Doyle, how you doing? Sorry I was away for a bit but glad you've completed Four Past Midnight. :). I can imagine that you might want to recalibrate and figure stuff out. While I personally love your videos I can only imagine how much effort goes into them and how draining it can be when you balance these with all of life's other shenanigans. If you need to take time or figure out a new system we'll all be here when you get back. And yeah, Golden Years might not be the worst King project on video (Firestarter Rekindled?) but it's not a great time. At the end of the day, hopefully this is something that brings a bit of joy into your life. If they're just making you stress out then...well, is it worth it? I hope it is because these always put a smile on my face but in the end only you can make that decision. Have an awesome week and if you do watch Golden Years, then do so on drugs. Like, seriously, lots of drugs. 😎 Take care, may friend.

      Hey Paul! I’m on the third hour of Golden Years… and it’s definitely not the worst, but every minute feels like an hour lol I’ve got 2 hours to go and no idea what I’m going to discuss 😂
      I’ve been going back and forth as to whether to just stay the course or take a new approach. I’m thinking about introducing my wife as a cohost. She’s smokin hot so I feel like that would certainly help the channel lol Otherwise I haven’t had any bright ideas.
      Hope you’re having a good weekend, and a good Easter if you’re into that sorta thing. Thanks, Paul!

      @A Great UndertaKING four past midnight is one of my favorites only because, I was a huge Johnny Depp fan growing up, and I was obsessed with secret window. I'm also a firm believer in reading the book before watching the movie. The stories in this book were so different but extremely enjoyable! My favorite King book will forever be Needful Things! I cannot wait for that one!!!!
