Even the weird ones like why Dragonite has no STAB, or why Dig and Fly are banned. Gen 1 is a VERY different beast compared to later generations, and would help catch people up to why Gen 1 is so... Gen 1.
Kingler's crabhammer isn't weak wtf are you on about. 50% to moltres is stronger than a starmie surf. Body slam and hyper beam are literally all you need, only gengar takes on kingler's attacks well at all.
Kingler in the context of gen 1 has a weak crabhammer because of its 50 special, both body slam and hyperbeam are physical in gen 1 so that's why they do damage, and the starmie thing is incorrect, crab hammer and surf have relative power, starmie would do more damage because it has double the special
@@juliansantana1877 Crabhammer is basically a guaranteed crit though. 255/256 times it will be doing double damage. It makes up for the weak special stat.
It’s weak due to the fact it’s only available on Kingler, whose special stat is lower than most other Pokemon in the game. It may as well be water gun with how bad Kingler is.
I think Seaking and Dewgong are the worst of these simply because if they were gonna make these Pokémon suck, they might as well have made their designs more interesting than just animals with a horn.
Isn't kinda hilarious you forgot Goldeen/Golking in that statement. Its a Pokemon so forgettable you forgot it even though it literally is the most egregious example of this. Goldeen Line's most notable features are 1. being used by Misty 2. Being the only Pokemon to learn Waterfall in Gen 1. What makes it even more hilarious is that pre special split, Waterfall was useless in Battle. It only had uses as a HM field move.
Poliwrath has Hypnosis and Amnesia, but so do Poliwhirl and Poliwag. Due to those LACKING the Fighting type and its subsequent Flying and Psychic weaknesses, the unevolved versions frequently perform better in certain formats despite lower stat spreads.
One other thing about Omastar and kabutops in gen 1 is there were only TWO rock type moves (rock throw & rock slide) so even using one to have rock stab is not really useful.
Second place Smogon Nintendo Cup 97 tournament winner here. Most of the video I thought was fair enough 👍 given that you seem to be making your decisions based on single playsr and multi-player performance amongst different tiers. But there are a few things I disagree with particularly in Nintendo Cup context, and I'd like to mention them since you might find them interesting. Starting with your number 1 choice. Seaking, as funny as it is, is much much better than 50% of this list in NC because it's allowed to use Agility plus Horndrill, and Blizzard has a 30% chance to freeze, so it can basically sweep any team if it rolls favorably which makes it terrifying to play against.
Another pokemon thats a lot stronger in NC is Poliwrath. You called it a worse Golduck and I ultimately think nobody would agree with that in any gen 1 format, Sleep is more than enough to make it stronger, Submission gives it a niche in OU.. But anyway, in NC Poliwrath is straight up a B tier pokemon overall because it's a pretty good stall breaker capable of 2HKOing Jynx, Lapras, Exeggutor, lv55 Tauros, and Jolteon all at once while having a sleep move on top of it, and excellent bulk to use Doubleteam and Rest effectively. You do have to pick and choose what moves you're using on the set carefully, it can't do everything at once. Side note, 70 special is not bad at all in gen 1, Tauros has 70 special and it's completely fine for any pokemon clicking Blizzard.
I was surprised to see Kingler here tbh, since it has a strong OU niche (although it's fallen off over time) but unfortunately I actually agree it should be high on this list because in NC it's probably the worst it ever has been, and can't really accomplish any niche at all unfortunately.. Something that may be shocking however is the fact that Cloyster is barely better than Dewgong in NC (it's a lot better but there isn't really much in-between them on a viability ranking) and Cloyster itself is almost never used because Lapras and Articuno are actually objectively in the top 3 to 5 best pokemon in the game.
The final thing I'll mention is in purely Nintendo Cup 97 context, Vaporeon would be right there near the top (worst) with it's mono water type brothers. It's about on the same level as Omastar, and Omastar is awful in NC, neither of them have any true niche of their own, but Omastar gets Horndrill and at least a Hyperbeam resistance, while Vaporeon gets Haze. Pick whichever you think is better, but trust me, both of them aren't going to accomplish much of anything.
It's funny how Gyarados was kind of mediocre for the first three generations, but then the Physical/Special split happened in Gen 4, and Gyarados became a monster. While a lot of these Pokemon still aren't great, Dewgong is probably the only one that has stayed utterly awful. Everybody else got something of note, but Dewgong has always been a Pokemon that has several dozens others do what it poorly attempts to do ten times better.
Dewgong's biggest problem in Gen 1 is when it comes. You could make an argument that stab ice beam/blizzard makes it better than Blastoise, but it just comes so late, and you get a free Lapras before that. Gyarados is also just cracked I'm Gen 1. It destroys every gym and elite 4 except for Surge, amd the 4x electric weakness is laughable when there are only, what, 3? 4? Electric attacks you'll ever see after evolving it.
In Gen 1, Gyarados was a powerful mixed attacker thanks to the combined Special stat, though it didn't have any physical STAB. Still, with how broken Hyper Beam was and how strong Body Slam was, it didn't really need any. In Gen 3, Gyarados was mostly held back in-game by its horrible movepool. The moment it gets Dragon Dance + Earthquake (or any reliable move, like Strength), it dominates. Having Intimidate definitely helps. By comparison, Gen 2 Gyarados has neither high Special nor Dragon Dance/Intimidate. It's definitely the lowest point for the angry serpent. Still, it's a difference between "S tier" and "A tier", so it's still good.
Hyper specific competitive Pokemon rankings isn't really well-filled, a bunch of people in the niche lack the knowledge. If Logs sources the scripts from a good player, he can fill this tbh
@@misirtere9836 yeah I've seen some major forgotten cards especially on this channel. At least for this one, the list pretty much mirrors the RBY viability rankings and the placements of these Pokemon in the tier system so it's 100% accurate from a purely competitive Pokemon standpoint
Eh... some of the competitive stuff on here is a bit iffy. 10) No one really uses Electrode or Nidoking, but Thunderbolts and Rock Slides do hurt it. The rock weakness is why it's not so good a ground type check since Rhydon can hit you with rock STAB anyways. 9) Moltres and Dragonite? I mean yeah, it counters them (ignoring wrap hax) but lots of the tier has good match ups against those two. Omastar is more for checking 2 of the big 3, Tauros and Snorlax, as long as they don't have Earthquake or are Amnesia Blizzard Snorlax. Also Tentacruel? In a tier dominated by strong Earthquakes and Psychics? Plus the water weakness isn't realy as bad when you gain a resistance to normal and ice, some of the best offensive types in RBY. 8) Dewgong is still 2HKOd from those attacks. Probably more nitpicking on my end, but yeah, others do its job much better as you said. 7) Not really anything off I know from the competitive scene. In game, I think you undersell it though. 6) Everything alright here. 5) Kabutops is not meant to check flying/fire types. It is a swords dancer that beats Rhydon with Surf. It still would want a rock type move, but part of that is to hit Gengar which walls you otherwise. It's not really good though as it's slower than or unable to OHKO a lot of pokemon which threaten it back with Thunderbolt. Also Rock/Water is good because of how it checks Normal and Ice types. Fire isn't that good in RBY because of all the water types and all but one of its moves can thaw freeze which otherwise stays the entirety of the match, plus Burn on some pokemon is the best status you can get because it means you can't be slowed with Paralysis or rendered useless with Sleep or Freeze. 4) Body Slam and Hyper Beam are good moves in RBY, especially with an attack stat as high as Kingler's, and Crabhammer basically always crits, so the low Special isn't nearly as bad as you would think. It's just really badly hurt by paralysis, faster special attackers, and anything that can survive a +2 Hyper Beam from it. 3) Mostly alright, though it's more defined by Amnesia over Hypnosis with some OU sets even cutting out Hypnosis altogether. 2-1) Yeah, don't know much on these, but they really don't have much.
Making this list hybridise how good a mon is for a playthrough and for competitive is a really weird choice. There's different criteria that would make Pokemon good for competitive when compared to a playthrough. Availability and TM reliance are huge factors that have 0 impact on competitive yet can make or break a Pokémon for a run.
Goldeen is why everyone forgets Waterfall was in Gen 1. Only a boring, forgettable on top of terrible even for the single player story pokemon learns it. The fact Waterfall was mostly an awful move in Battle before Gen 4 doesn't help either
Not sure how I feel about main series videos tbh. I'm way more knowledgeable about the main series and there are many channels that revolve around them as opposed to the tcg, so I don't think I'll find these very engaging
this entire list is weird as he mixes ingame performance with competetive play. poliwrath for example is insane in an ingame playthrough but bad in competetive, same goes for blastoise. why does he even mention ingame performance if its not relevant to the list? makes the list super confusing.
You do realize this is both an irrelevant and an incredibly braindead statement on Gen 1 competitive? 1. VGC didn't even exist 2003. Gen 1 was 1997-1998. There was no official competitive format until Gen 3. 2. VGC is based around double battles, meaning its fully irrelevant to Gen 1 and Gen 2 competitive. 3. VGC doesn't have the option to play older generations, even when they featured double battles. For every old generation, the competitive scene is only unofficial fan platforms playing it posthomously.
@@eightcoins4401 sure! there weren't any. the VGC was created later around 2009 and before then, there were events hosted in late Gen 3 as part of the Pokemon World Championships which was primarily based on cards. Anything that is not a part of this is unofficial and should not be treated as equally relevant.
"Number 10: Gyarados" Ah yes the 100 Attack, 100 Special monster that you can get relatively easily and doesn't care that it doesn't have physical stab. Totally the 10th worst water type. Though I suppose there's only so many Pokemon to choose from...
In Gen 1 Gyarados is terrible though. Its real viability starts in Gen 2 because it profited from being a discount Dragonite the minute there were multipole Dragon moves You never see Gyarados in gen 1 competitive, unless its a site like showdown intentionally running formats just for low tier Pokemon.
Enjoyable video but I think you made it too difficult for yourself by making 10 worst as it did end up with a few absolutely ass takes. Maybe a 5 worst and 5 best would have been better. But I agree with your top 3 and on Seadra you reminded me it only learns Water and Ice moves which is shocking! Poliwraths biggest issue in gen 1 is that it's worse than it's Pre-evolution.
Seriously weird to see a video talking the actual Pokémon games instead of the TCG. Now for the entries. 10. And to be fair its Special Attack also got nerfed in Gen 3 if we're taking the remakes into account. 9. Yeah it's not worth it because of the point you get it at. 8. I would rather use Lapras because it's pretty tanky. 7. I hope you've got a flame shield ready. Because I KNOW you're going to get a lot of hate because of this entry. 6. I wonder if it wouldn't be on the list if it was also a Psychic Type. 5. Even in the Gen 3 remakes it only learns AncientPower via level up at LEVEL 65! And the only other Rock attack it can learn is Rock Tomb via TM. 4. What were they thinking when they gave this thing an abysmal special attack. Also doesn't help that it's SO FREAKING SLOW! 3. Yeah if I want a Fighting Type in Gen 1 I'm gonna use Primeape since I can catch a Mankey on Route 3 in Yellow and the Gen 3 remakes. 2. And then they gave it an item trade evolution and Gen 2. OOF! 1. Well. Anyone up for some FISH?

There are no bad gen 1 water pokemon, only bad gen 1 water pokemon trainers ➿️
Video idea: Top 10 buffed moves. E.g Rapid Spin -> buffed to 50 power and raises speed by one stage.
You make great videos for sleeping/eating
Aren't the *broken* aka insanely good water types only broken because they are dual water/psychic?
Making this list hybridise how good a mon is for a playthrough and for competitive is a really weird choice. There's different criteria that would make Pokemon good for competitive when compared to a playthrough. Availability and TM reliance are huge factors that have 0 impact on competitive yet can make or break a Pokémon for a run.
Shocking to see Blastoise on this list
Awesome. You should do a collab with FalseSwipeGaming 🎉
I haven`t watched the video but I expect Seaking to be there because I have played the game for decades but I`ve never caught a golden before EVER!
The main place people play Pokemon competitively is VGC. Smogon is not official and it is not recognized by Pokemon Co.
Anything that is not a part of this is unofficial and should not be treated as equally relevant.
are you hirumaredx?? love your wow vids
weird to see you covering the Pokémon video games.
2:38 That is only true because every Grass type move in Gen 1 is ass, besides razor leaf.
Seeing Gyrados in number ten makes me sad
5:01 *Compounded
i love seaking
It's good in Nintendo Cup 97
Said no one ever😂
did you run out of cards to game
More Dexlogs please!
"Number 10: Gyarados"
Ah yes the 100 Attack, 100 Special monster that you can get relatively easily and doesn't care that it doesn't have physical stab. Totally the 10th worst water type.
Though I suppose there's only so many Pokemon to choose from...
Trust me, crying rivers about it makes no difference.
@@bEtHeSdA_LAME_sTuDi0s you are really quite remarkably gay
@bmeht
I appreciate the exuberant homosexuality in your choice of words.
In Gen 1 Gyarados is terrible though.
Its real viability starts in Gen 2 because it profited from being a discount Dragonite the minute there were multipole Dragon moves
You never see Gyarados in gen 1 competitive, unless its a site like showdown intentionally running formats just for low tier Pokemon.
@@eightcoins4401 Sorry. 😅 Must be all those nuzlocke tierlists confusing my brain.
I thought this was for the TCG so color me surprised
Yellow Gameboy but not the yellow Pikachu Gameboy smh....
Dewgong gets pay day to get more money
Gyarados unironically is way better in nerfed form due to havign a better move pool.
@eightcoins4401 Touche.
Duel Logs is about to grt his by POKEMON NERDS. POKEMON NERDS.
Bunch of frail ego neckbeards in here bawling about semantics of Golduck hahaha
False swipe better look out
FSG only covers competitive and this is a weird hybrid of a playthrough and comp
Why so keep comparing yourself to other people all the time? You seem really insecure not gonna lie lol
This list is all wrong. Slowbro is the worst Gen 1 Pokemon.
Absolutely ass taste in Pokemon.
