I had this year 6 Swallow the Sun concerts because I love that album sooo much. These guys are soooo great esp. live. Swallow the Sun know the ICF (Incident Cry Formula). I am full of happy tears while listening to them. AND by the way, you can headbang sooooo great at the concerts. Promised. Next concert is ahead in February 2020 at their 20th anniversary tour. P.S.: fave track on the last album is definitely "Firelights" but I completely get mad about "Lost and Catatonic"
That was beautifully done. Great songs are not defined by their tempo. They're all about communicating emotions as you've mentioned many times, so why should that range be limited. The conveyance of mood here was excellent.
I love this kind of metal for it's calming effect. Just closing my eyes and diving into the music is my kind of stress release. I think you might like also Wolfheart. It's not doom, I'd say melo death with doom and black influences, but they have an ability to create same kind of soothing atmospheres. Try The Flood, or if in need of something a bit more brutal, Zero Gravity or Breakwater.
Glad to see you covering some doom metal. Swallow the Sun is amazing. Please delve deeper into this down tempo rabbit hole. And if you listen further to Swallow the Sun, I would recommend "These Lowlands" from their album Hope.
trees of eternity is from the girlfriend of the guitarist in swallow the sun she sadly passed away a few years ago and he aleady reacted to Hallatar who was an homage to her and trees of eternity :)
Having always been a fan of the minor-keyed, darker music, I quite enjoyed this new discovery along with you, and even the cookie-monster was mostly understandable! Regarding the slower pace, I'm reminded of a quote from Roger Waters when giving advice to another band he was producing, that it was important to"leave a hole," indicating the importance of the 'space' between the notes! Couldn't agree more!
This song is a fairly good example of what Swallow the Sun are like, glad you checked them out The title track off this album is equally good, haven't had a chance to listen to the whole album properly yet

The band is one of my Top 3 Doom Bands and every album is unique and has a certain different touch. The one before this album here is a 3 CD album with each CD presenting a different Doom Style. And you will end up with the saddest Doom album of all time called: Trees of Eternity - "Hour Of The Nightingale" and if you review one of the songs of that album take the last song "Gallows Bird" --> featuring Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost).
By all means listen to Plague of Buterflies, but not convinced it'll be a good reaction cause its like half an hour long Some of their older stuff though, like Hope etc
Realising how difficult it is for a drummer to play this slow. Every single hit exactly on point. A song to sit down, take a special beer and think the day/week/year over. Make that two special beer....
if you want absolute melancholy, listen to some stuff by Mournful Congregation, specifically The Catechism of Depression on the album The Book of Kings or Whispering Spiritscapes from their latest album The Incubus of Karma
ha ha, I'm sure you'd notice if it was muddy or sounded like it was recorded in a bucket. Paz can hear if the frequencies are interfering with each other which makes things disappear in the mix. But then he does spend a lot of time behind a mixing desk.

Plague of the butterflies is awesome but also 35 mins long. This is my favorite album of the year so far and doubt it will drop below my top 5
