    Pleasee keep making stuff like this! I work everyday on making stuff that looks like it could be in a game. And your tutorials help a TON! Could you do a tutorial on magic effects later? You're amazing at what you do man ^^
    (one more thing, i would love to see a video of showing how to rig a character with cloth that has actual cloth physics. Im wanting my alien character to have a huge sleeve that goes down, but without having any kinda physics it just kinda looks strange..)

    That's a great rig. I thought you would use a driver to offset the motion, I wasn't expecting you to bake the animation and offset it in the curves editor. I guess that is the easier way.

    • @thecackleman
      @thecackleman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah same, i paused the video when he said we bake that stuff cause u can easily do that with drivers or animation node. What an amazing way it was untill he introduced a
      destructive workflow.

    Excellent tutorial !
    One suggestion when you want to increment a value through time : instead of setting a keyframe on the value and manually managing a graph curve, you can just write #frame instead of the value. This will create a driver that basically pick up the current frame number, effectively turning your value into an infinite increment. If it's going too fast or to slow, simply click the value again, and multiply the "frame" by any number (a decimal between 0 and 1 to slow down, >1 to speed up, and use negative values to inverse the flow). I.E. if you want the frale it at 20% speed, you'd write "frame*0.2" (without the quote marks). And THEN, if you want further tweaking, you can right-click the value and hit Open the Driver Editor to edit the curve.

    • @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN
      @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I know this trick and use it pretty oftenly but it can generate bugs, especialy when you are mixing different value in the vector or evolution input of texture.
      I don't why, but it's seems there is some kinf of easing on the driver when using th #frame option.
      What I mean by that is that I don't get a linear interpolation

    trail when we are keying animation

    "Preserve Volume" In the Armature Modifier gets ignored on export. So when I want to use the animation in an engine it still has that strange spiderweb-like distortion when the blade rotates backwards. Any idea how to get around this issue?

  • @jackcarterdrelias

    Hello, thanks for this tutorial. I have a question about this :
    The trail is possible only if the root bone (the "sword" bone in the video) is free from any parent, am I right ? If the sword bone is parented to a hand, the trail will no more have global coordinates, but will have the local coordinates of the parent, which will make the trail follow the hand rotation. How could I parent the sword to a hand and still have th trailed freezed in global space ?
    I hope I have been clear enough, thank you for all of your tutorials !

    • @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN
      @PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it will work since we are using world space.
      you can parent the sword to anything and bake its motion.

    • @jackcarterdrelias
      @jackcarterdrelias 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PierrickPicaut_P2DESIGN Hi, thanks for your quick answer. I think I wanted too much by parenting my trail to my sword. As My trail will only last 7 or 8 frames, I decided to place it manually. Plus, as I can make it remain static at the end of the sword sweep, the trail would naturally disappear off the render.
      Thanks anyway for the tip. Your other videos are very useful and much inspiring !

  • @zausage2757
    @zausage2757 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hello! You seem very wise technically when it comes to this type of animation, and I was wondering if you knew anything about older animating file formats and how well this work flow would plug into them. I specifically work with M2 files usually found in the world of Warcraft game engine. I'm going to mess with it myself tonight, but typically to make this sort of effect you need to edit the M2 file directly to set up animations as they break on exporting and conversion. Typically my work flow is to export as an obj, then edit the m2 to accept animation data, and create a second uv layer as typically it will only generate one on conversion. This workflow seems like it may have the required data built into the textures via your nodes, so I will try this and see what the results look like in the game engine. Any thoughts you may have on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
