This is my favourite track in the game. Instead of the meaningful Small Shock as Flowey explains the whole message of Undertale's genocide route... We have Asriel and "Chara" strolling down the Citadel while the background is full of chaos, people trying to evacuate, get to places. The entire citadel is overheating. The fruit of your actions. The music gets more and more epic as you get closer to the final destination, closer to home. This moment feels... Wrongly invigorating. Really makes you feel the satisfaction Asriel is feeling at that moment... ... Well, before Alphys comes in and gives you one heck of a vibe check that is.
Can we all admit this is like the top 5 in the outerspace soundtrack. For me its my 2nd favorite. New and full of flavor compared to other undertale soundtracks and remakes ive listened to 1 million times.
This entire situation reminds me of the importance of different perspectives to look from. To the entire station you both have doomed to oblivion, you're obvious antagonists, evil that needs to be stopped. Many lives can still be saved if you along with Asriel cease to exist. They will sacrifice you for the sake of their world. Papyrus, Undyne, Mettaton and many others are seen as protagonists here, because they're fighting evil. Even when they know they stand no chance, hope dies last. In the stories it is always said how good always defeats evil. They forget a crucial detail - winners were the ones writing the history. If you won, therefore you're the force of good that people seek in this story. And now, from Asriel's perspective, the entirety of monsterkind are seen as oblivious to their own hubris antagonists. What's interesting is that the fluffy menace to society accepted what he is, and rolls along with his desires. What's more interesting is that he sees in you more or less the same. At this point of the story you are either driven by morbid curiosity, or attempts to avoid sheer boredom. Ability to reset plays a big part here. In the first case you know you can always reset. And you choose not to, until you reach the end. In the second case you've already reset so many times and seen so much, this might be the last timeline for you to explore. A combination of both can be seen after your best friend takes his true form. In his eyes, you're the protagonist. You chose him over the entirety of monsterkind. You brought him back to life. Thanks to the ability to reset, you are seen as his kindred. And you chose to sacrifice this entire world for his sake, enhancing the connection made between you. Fitting, considering the etymology of a name that is "Asriel". There are many ways to write this name, it depends from what meaning one would want to give it. I'll explore two. It can be written as "עזריאל", thus interpreted as "God is my help". It somewhat fits if you take it quite literally. In the pacifist timelines, near the end of the story He ascends from a prince of death to a god. He can only help himself. Here, however, He sees help sent to him in you. You are His god, and He is your prince. Both share the same ruthless belief. It can also be written as "אשריאל", which means "God has filled with joy". It is both lore fitting and accurate to what He says. From Papyrus we find out that when Asriel was alive, Asriel was the kid overflowing with happiness, He was a hope of His people. After the incident in which He met His end, He lost His soul. And when Asriel was finally reborn as a star, the star was hollow. Soulless, Asriel slowly lost ability to feel empathy for any other living being. Even His father became a toy with which He temporarily satisfied His perverse amusement until He got bored. Unable to find joy himself, He stole it again and again from others... Until you came along and granted Asriel chance to steal a soul of His own mother. And He got to experience empathy for you. Already tainted by his past sins, with barely compatible soul he paid back the best he could - sharing his twisted joy with you. After gathering together what we figured out, it is no wonder how this track got its name. Along with Asriel you have deemed everyone besides yourselves not worthy of living. Both of you are heralds of the Judgement Day for monsterkind. While Asriel is your harbinger, you are his arbiter of Armageddon that you both caused. Walking through the precipice of monsterkind's downfall while thoroughly enjoying the fruit of your collective effort... What a sight it is to behold. After taking so many lives, you have never felt more alive. Enjoy the feeling while it lasts. For your retribution stands on your way to an end of this story. Being so close to the finale, will you be determined enough to reach it when you get stumbled by a worthy opponent?
I know Spacey only wanted to make the pacifist route and only added darker paths to help the game reach a wider audience. But I felt that those routes were handled very well in this game. The chaotic route is starkly original and it shows a twistedly beautiful yet tragic side of Chara and Asriel's codependent relationship. And I can appreciate the meaning behind the anticlimax in both the chaotic and lv20 routes, and the sense of melancholy. All in all Outertale did something that no other Undertale fangame truly did - it felt like I was playing Undertale for the first time again. No other Undertale fangame has ever captured that 'meta' feeling for me. And I think that couldn't have been achieved without the darkness that defines the light, and vice versa. The sci-fi setting is perfect for that 'meta' kind of a story too. Also, the tension palpable throughout the Alphys fight was unmatched. I got so immersed in the story that the music melted away and felt like a pure emotional manifestation (as in, I was so wrapped up in the story I didn't even notice the music changing for the different phases of the fight. It just felt natural.) Really compelling stuff.
Honestly, the only ending that feels out of place for me is the Bully one. It's just excessively cruel for no good reason, and it's massively out of character for like half of the main cast (even when just considering this game's version of them).
@@grandevirtude9830people forget that while frisk ends up not killing anybody, they were very close to wiping out almost every monster with no signs of stopping. how would you not be afraid after that?
I assume this is the Small Shock (Genocide) replacement with the obvious caveat of the different situation in this game's murder run that would be spoilery to list?
It is the replacement for that song. Iirc the song is split into 5-6 parts, as it's a progressive song, which gets more intense as you get closer to the final battle.
This is definitely one of my favorite tracks in the game fits the mood perfectly for whats coming as well as Asriel’s story and the name on top of it is just perfect
The drop combined with the two walking above Aeralis as the alarms go off was really well done. Also really cool how part of the buildup is simmilar ticking clock as you walk up to that scene. It's not that uncommon but it's almost always cool when composers make use of that.
This is just absolutely amazing. You turned small shock into this amazing piece. I can feel the absolute despair the people of the city in the background from the music
Armageddon -(in the Neo Testament) the last battle between friend and evil before the Day of Judgement. the ice place where the Armageddon will be fought. -a dramatic and catastrophic conflict inside me, especially one seen as likely to destroy the world or the human race.
Awww, they look so cute being evil together.
This song (especially the beginning) sounds A LOT like "The Last Stand" from the game FTL (Faster than Light).

i would of been more dissapointed if i wasnt jumped on by alphys tbh i loved the fight and it would oif been a dead feeling if she didnt do that
I did not expect this small part has one of the coolest villainous soundtrack ever.

Didn't expect the Small Shock replacement to be such a *_BANGER_* .
The beat drop is peak. And the end scene is legitimately top 5 undertale fangame moments

And at the end none of it even matters because you will inevitably die, probably making you reset again
This is such a rollercoaster to read and I love it. A great description of this particular demise.
Let's say this was, hmmm, a small shock?
[*YOU and Asriel are filled with POWER and DETERMINATION]

i LOVE this. no pun intended.
Is it just me or is it reminiscent of the Wither Storm theme?
Man this game is amazing, except for the ending that breaks the mood, the chaotic route is amazing
