This played in my watch this. I remember reading your posts on allnurses and watching your videos when I was still a new grad nurse and now here I am going to crna school next year :)
Thanks for discussing about rejection in our profession. We nurses have immense level of grit and coping, we always get up and move on to the next endeavor. We learn and evolve. Once we are motivated and decided, nothing can stop us from reaching our goals.
So true!
your story brought me to tears, so happy you pushed through your setbacks and self-doubt. thank you for sharing your testimony.
So cold weather and suit jacket ‼️ bro they give the dumbest reason to kill your confidence. In health care, we all have to stand back up when things are thrown at us to make us sink!
This is so far the best and most encouraging video I have watched in a year.
Great stuff, Jason! Potentially my favorite video of yours thus far. Nothing is ever achieved by giving up. Thank you for your insight!
I appreciate that!
I feel like the CRNA goal or chase is exhausting. I know a lot of ppl burned themselves trying to get into CRNA schools. I think it's a blessing that I have no desire to be a CRNA but I love working with CRNA! Some places are very CRNA friendly and others, treat CRNA like bedside nurses. CRNA needs to be recognized more and respected.
Well said
This video is exactly what I needed. Motivation to keep pushing, I was rejected by two programs, the one actually called me and told me I had to retake my sciences because they are 14 years old and C/B’s because beck then when I went into school i was told I need a C to pass to start my nursing program and an infant at home so I did what I had to, which obviously now I know better and regret but i didn’t know better or that I would want to go back to school! So now here i am, taking intro to micro/ A&P 1&2/ organic chem and studying my butt off for A’s, studying my butt off for a great GRE score, and I WILLL get into a program.
Keep up that hard work.
Were you trying to apply for CRNA school? How have things been in the last 4 years?
Great story! Someone told me once that sometimes something bad has to happen before something bigger and better can take place, sounds like this is what happened to you. I can see the lack of a sportcoat thing, but for them to assume the cold weather would be a turn off is garbage. Anyways, things took a different direction, and it was good to hear how you overcame the hurdles. Good job Bolt !!
So true!
This was heart wrenching for the first 25 minutes! I’m glad it has a happy ending 😅. I’m driving to my next travel contract and have been listening to about a dozen of your videos already. But this one has made you the most endearing. Bravo!
Thanks, and enjoy the drive.
@@BoltCRNA Thanks! And with the economy and pandemic, nowadays talk on the forums is that the smart bet falls on applying to schools with the highest pass rate, lowest attrition, and lowest tuition, with curriculums leaning toward independent practice so you can tailor to more medical facilities, no? You can always go to physician-led practices if you want to work in the city and give up autonomy but it’s harder to gain knowledge to work autonomously. Please correct me if I’m wrong. 🤷🏽♂️
This video popped up in my recommended videos the same day I got my CRNA rejection letter. I was prepared for both a yes and no so the pain was blunted. Thanks for sharing your story. I plan on reapplying.
You got this!
Do you mind sharing your stats? GPA? Certifications? If you dont mind of course.
Great video. This is great motivation as I start to round out my first year as an ICU RN. About to start the open heart classes and start studying for CCRN
Go for it!
Thank you for sharing your journey to CRNA school. You were meant to graduate where you graduated and do what your doing!
Yes! Thank you!
Please do a video on getting prepared to apply! I’d love to hear more about preparing for the GRE and CCRN!
Noted!
Magoosh for GRE and Barron's for CCRN
Thanks for this! I am in the last and hardest semester of my BSN program. I am so grateful. Through hard work as a nurse extern, I was already offered and accepted a position in the ICU after graduation. I certainly don't want to get the cart in front of the horse but I have long had aspirations of becoming a CRNA. Having your videos is such a helpful tool. I too will face adversity. Imposter syndrome and other obstacles are surely ahead. I will not give up!
This video is so good and inspiring, as being an imigrant in this country I have done so much but I'm still not there...getting into a CRNA school is my ultimate goal and finally graduate from it. I'm in Miami; I will work hard to get in any of the three programs offered down here.
Thanks for this video @Bolt CRNA!
Good luck!
Rejections can be a blessing in disguise.
This video is so inspirational! This popped up in my TH-cam recommendations as my daughter got accepted into a 4 year BSN program. She will start next fall and her long term goal is to become a CRNA! I’ll share this video with her. Thank you. You are an amazing person!
Thank you and good luck to your daughter.
This is proof that everything happens for a reason. A few years ago I had a great interview to teach English in Japan. Interviewers complimented my answers, I was quick on my feet. Then i wasn't even wait listed. I realize I'd much rather live and play in Japan than work, so it would've been a terrible experience for me.
You found the perfect school. Yay!!!
Hey, thank You for sharing this with us! Congratulations for your ambition! It will be nice if you would like to make a video about challenges in the CRNA job (or pros and cons).
Thanks for the idea!
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m planning to apply CRNA schools and already nervous all the steps.
Thank you for sharing your journey! I learned so much from this video and took a lot from it!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for sharing your experiences!
You're a phenomenal person. I'm sitting here sobbing. The way you speak, with so much passion, it is really inspiring for me. Thank you.
Wow, thank you.
Continue to be an inspiration to us! Thank you for this video and it helped me to push my CRNA dream.. Stay handsome and healthy! 😍
I love this video! Thank you for sharing such a personal story.
I feel like you were talking about Duke .
Thanks for sharing. Very inspirational story.
Politics/cliques is so huge in health care. We as nurses have many grit and resilience.
Great video and excellent reflections. I just wanted to ask for future videos, if you can cut out the background music, it's pretty distracting and sometimes hard to hear what you're saying. Can you also tell us what the curriculum is like? Kind of like a break down of each semester. I know it probably varies per program, but maybe just talk about what your school did?
Thanks, will do!
@@BoltCRNA I liked the background music :)
Thank you for your story 🙏
This video is good for the soul♡
Bolt: What was your answer to final interview question 3?! (Sounds like a good scifi movie ☺)
Which question are you referring to?
@@BoltCRNA Why you chose this profession/what about you makes this for you* The question your eventual program asked you for your 3rd question
Please do a video on how you prepped!!!
People can be so petty. But hey, they couldn’t stop you!!!
I think it's Albany Medical or Mayo in Minnesota.
I love this. I want to be a crna so bad! I’m finishing up my bsn and trying to get into the sicu/icu. Do you think the name of the hospital of where u get your icu experience matters on applications to schools?
Thank you!
Hey, I always try to watch any videos about being a CRNA. Whenever I run into comments I always see people being super negative about CRNA’s being much lesser than Anesthesiologists, and how CRNA’s shouldn’t even be a thing. Luckily many states allow for a certain level of CRNA autonomy, which is awesome! I’ve also seen people comment that the procedures done by CRNA’s are super simple and will be replaced by machines in the near future. I was wondering where you see the profession going in the next 20-30 years, and why you think there’s such a distaste for CRNA’s? (Sorry for the loading question but I figured you’d be a very credible person to ask) keep up the great videos!!!
Thanks for watching the videos Kevin. My advice about seeing disgruntled and negative comments in online forums is to never expect Walmart to speak highly or praise Target. What you were reading is baseless slander.
CRNA’s are the oldest providers in the anesthesia profession.
I know their real reason for rejecting was the nerve block questions, but the suit jacket excuse was over the top. Funny how we all have to play that society game. Tucked in dress shirt and tie isn't enough... that extra cloth (jacket) is so important. At one point in history it was a tunic, another it was white wigs on our heads, Middle Eastern cultures might have a gown, ancient Egyptians might have had some jewelry, others had armor, some tribal societies wear no shirts at all. Here we use bulky uncomfortable suit jackets and restricting ties around our necks with clickety clacking dress shoes!
Prime example of God having a plan for each one of us!
Can you tell me the best people to get LOR from? Obviously a teacher from nursing school, and then who else? Your unit manager for the ICU job? Any advice?
Well I just got rejected...sucks for real. Almost feels like there’s no point to anything right now.
But...I guess there’s always next year since it’s what I wanna do 🤷🏻♂️still sucks bad.
I know how you feel.
Hey Jason,
Could you suggest some programs that are known in the CRNA circles to prepare students for autonomous practice? I have no issue with medically directed CRNA providers but I would like to keep my options as open and flexible as possible! Specifically if you know if any of the schools in TX that equip SRNAs for successful autonomous practice.
Thanks for the time you put into these videos! :)
All programs should offer some rotations in independent practice. It's rare to hear of a program that does not. I haven't heard anything about the Texas programs that would make me suggest or warn against any of them.
So thankful you share ALL sides of the story! It makes it a little less stressful. (: are you expected to continue research related to anesthesia once you graduate?
It's a practice doctorate. That means your goal is to assimilate research to improve your practice and perhaps on a systems level around you. You can take that as high or minimal as you'd like.
This story helped me a lot.
This was so motivating❤
I gotta ask, was it Virginia commonwealth? Lol.
I plan to get a bachelors in chemistry after I finish my BSN. I determined that after I’ve taken all the chemistry/physics courses and pre-reqs for said courses required for the crna schools in my state, I’ll be 10-12 courses from a bachelors in chemistry. I feel like a BSN, BS in chemistry and 3 years high acuity icu experience should get me great odds of acceptance.
It wasn't Virginia. Good luck!
Bolt CRNA thanks man
Such an inspiring story
I have an interview tomorrow and I am super nervous about it!
You got this!
Did you get it?
Inspiring
This is a great video by the way!
You are talking about Case Western Right??!
Do you think they take gender into account when accepting SRNA's into their programs? Like do they usually have a 50/50 ratio of men to women?
They don't consider gender when accepting students.
Are CRNA's addressed as "Dr." in the hospital? What is your title at work?
I usually don't use my formal title with my patients. I'll explain my doctoral education if prompted.
thanks for sharing your -ve experience :)
When I leave college with my BSN will I need to get my DNP then go to CRNA school? The college I am going to is talking about picking up a CRNA program at South Alabama.
The CRNA program is a DNP program. They aren't two different entities.
Thanks for asking about that Jennifer!
Very interesting story regarding those boneheads at the major university.
Right?
You are the Ethan Hawke of the Nursing world!
Peace be upon you, do you have snapchat?
🚩🚩What school was this, that is grooming CRNAS to be ACT puppets. 🤣
