Probably promoting and using class consciousness is the best attack there could ever be on MAGA. A non-attack, don't mention red or blue, Trump vs whomever, the two-party system, etc. Remind people who their own people actually are, and who they are not. The corporations on welfare, the strategic bankruptcies and bailouts, who it actually is that stuff helps and who it hurts - perhaps the scales will fall from their eyes if people realize they have more in common with the homeless population than they could ever wish to have in common with a billionaire.

I cannot overstate how important participating in LOCAL politics matters in the US. There is so much you can change at the local much faster than the federal:
    - Housing & rent
    - Minimum wages
    - School funding & education.
    - Policing (funding and policy)
    - Judges and Sheriffs (underrated)
    - Addressing the unhoused/homeless etc
    - District Attorney
    - Environmental
    - Healthcare
Changes locally, bubble up to the federal. This is by design, so use it. Do not wait for your perfect presidential candidate.
The far right have leveraged this for years. The left and progressives need to catch up and take the levers of power back. These are far easier to win than the presidential, and longer lasting.

    • @ariwl1

I liken it to a person's job resumé. You usually get better jobs the more you've worked and proven yourself at prior jobs. Politicians are (generally) elected to higher offices after proving themselves at lower ones. We ARE the hiring manager, we have the power to decide if we like a candidate for a particular job or not.
Now, the scary part that I've seen is when positions run uncontested. And this is also why getting interested in local politics is important, because then you start to notice those gaps. People might want things to change but if no one steps up to contend the person in office, nothing will change.

Politics seem to be less of "Red vs Blue" and more "Poor people vs rich people" nowadays. The idea is to make yourself rich so you don't have the problems of the Poors. They don't want to make things better, they just want to make the problems not affect them anymore

Some European politicians has warned that Europe shouldn't let itself be infected by toxic online American political discourse, and actually concentrate in the biggest source of inequality and injustice, economic inequality. And let's not pretend European are perfect, their soft foreign policy, specially towards Russia and China, has been a total disaster. They empowered their enemies and competitors. We need to move beyond this stupid Left/Right algorithm-driven echo chamber false binary anyway. While, yes, MAGA and its Euro counterparts ARE fascists and MUST be 100% opposed full stop, we need to stop thinking of Left/Right, Red/Blue as a binary but as a SPECTRUM. And that spectrum looks different in different states...simply shouting for the Leftiest of Left progressives (even if some would like that) WILL NOT win elections, that's just not how some states are demographically or culturally. I'm sorry, to win a coalition, we need BOTH Centre-Left and Progressive Dems. You can say, like Chelsea, that you want more Progressives and a more Progressive voice (that itself is, again, a spectrum, there are certain things I as a lifelong Dem like about Progressives and certain things I cannot stand) BUT the fact remains that, unless you're just gonna cause 20-30 million new Progressives to pop up out of the ground like carrots to beat BOTH the Dems and MAGA GOP, mathematically in different states we will need BOTH.
Coalition, not conflict, between the two halves of the party.
And that itself means moving past fighting over who is Leftier Than Thou...the ONLY group that benefits from that kind of infighting is, ya know, Trump/MAGA fascists.

Regarding LA wildfires: Fossil fuel companies have convinced the LA mayor to loosen construction laws pertaining to reducing gas hookups for new construction, because rebuilding with gas appliances will be "cheaper" than rebuilding the DESTROYED houses completely electric. Fossil fuel companies are literally gazillionaires and they can afford to lower their prices to just below the electric/renewable energy appliances on buildings. They see this as an opportunity. They literally don't care about anyone. The justification that the Mayor is using to loosen these restrictions on gas hookups for new builds? "they've gotten more efficient!" Fact check: How much more efficient? 1-2%. These gas appliances have gotten 1-2% more efficient. We need to reduce our emissions down to ZERO, not reduce by 2%.

As always and I'm not the first to say, scrolling and posting isn't action. Action is action (and there's a lot of resources to step into and get going on and none of it requires a big march). It's a difficult time not to overweight "intake," but for ourselves and our broader work, it's necessary. Yes stay informed, no don't let it crush you or steal all your energy. It's as important to be aware of what's going on and willing to act as it is to share laughter and food and empowerment through community.

And I very much agree that our center-left Democrat party has been far more effective at shutting up the far left than it has the right. But while the middle & working class can't articulate it well, they are screaming for the end of neoliberal policy. Unfortunately, in America, RACE IS A PROXY FOR CLASS. So people get easily confused into attacking minorities when they should be attacking the rich.
I'm the choir, and now I'll settle back in for more of your truth preaching, sister.

OK so I watched the rest. Good stuff.
To your point that PROGRESSIVE Dems need to stop fighting MAGA and instead stand for something, here is Robert Greene, saying much the same. It's a good video, except the middle where Ari Melber felt he needed to look smart, so he asked a distracting question.

To my point about neoliberal economic policy, here's a great explainer of what that is. And although it's from a British perspective, their Labor party has the same center-left problems that our Democrat party does.

Two things I think we need to focus on are 1. Making the rich pay their fair share, and 2. Increasing labor's pricing power.
The first is addressed beautifully by Rutger Bregman's talk before the Davos crowd.

Finally, as for increasing labor's pricing power, we need to flex some muscles we've let atrophy for 45 years - supporting unions. That means asking questions about how unions work on TH-cam channels like Robert Reich & A More Perfect Union.
Thanks again for your great video.

Thank you for articulating all the fury and urgency that's been swirling around in my head since the election, since the inauguration, since the funding rug-pull this week. I deeply appreciate you for using your platform to share this message broadly. I'm hoping it gets a ton of engagement beyond the usual TFD circle.
Maybe it goes without saying, but WE help US. It's always gotta be about helping folks in our communities, especially if we have the means, the ability, the knowledge. We form these coalitions to turn things around. It was never gonna be the democratic party or a single presidential candidate. We help us.
Now for something I thought of when you mentioned mutual aid and donations: if you work for a big company, your company probably has a "giving" program where they will match your donation dollar-for-dollar. Unless there's a caveat to donating your money this way that I don't know about, consider donating $100 or whatever you can to a women's shelter, a food bank, a homeless outreach org, an LGBTQ shelter... your choice. Now imagine you work for a conservative company, maybe they even donate to republican candidates. How fun is it to make them double that donation to an organization they'd never support. It's just a thought. Y'all have a nice day.

I kept shouting YES so loud in agreement with so many points you made that I'm pretty sure my neighbors think I'm having a much better evening than I am 😂. An excellent summation of the stakes. We can't let ourselves get doomer pilled and the Democratic Party as it currently exists isn't going to save us. We have to save each other, and in the process we'll save ourselves.
