  • In this video I reconstruct the blue dress from The Notebook but make it using historical methods from the 1940s.

Very happy to have come across your channel. I've seen many 18th and 19th century clothing channels but little for the 1920s-1960s which is my favourite era so this is great. Yes, I would love to see sewing tips from 1944 :)

Hi Conor, thank you for your kind words and affirmation about my niche here on TH-cam! I am excited for all of the upcoming reconstructions 🙂

I hadn’t seen the method you used for making the bias binding before, and I’m definitely going to use it going forward! I’d been doing the “fold in half and iron, fold one side into the center and iron, then the other side” method, and yours is so much quicker looking! Thank you!

I never looked up how you’re supposed to do it, I just know what the premade stuff looks like and try to copy it lol thankfully it works pretty well!

I've been watching too many 1800s sewing projects 😂 when I first saw your machine I thought "That's high tech".
I haven't seen The Notebook so the only outfit I've seen is that dress and I had literally no idea the movie was supposed to be set in the 40s! So I wholeheartedly agree with your opinion on the costumes despite knowing nothing about the movie lol.

Some costumes in period movies are "modernized" somewhat to make it easier for a modern audience to relate to the characters & the story line more easily (& to make it easier to market "knockoff fashion"). I love how you restored the dress design to its original 1940's charm.

Side Note - I've found ebay to be an excellent source for vintage buckles.

I love this!! I am so very happy i found your channel and I subscribed!
I actually found your video by googling, looking for a replica of this dress
Never thought of making it historically accurate lol 😂 why? Idk
But now Im tempted to try it but I wonder if it can be made as separates?
To keep the top but be able to switch between 40s skirt and more of that pencil skirt shape from the movie lol
Have best of both worlds lol
Also…would you ever make a video explaining sewing instructions on vintage sewing patterns?
    Unless you already have one
I always find them sooo confusing and stressful, I usually give up on those projects

Out of curiosity how come you decided not to trim the sleeves with a patterned fabric similar to the movie version? Just found your channel and I am loving your content 😁
