A part of me likes to believe that he didn’t want to die, but he did it to end the despair. He didn’t truly believe he was garbage, but that’s what he’s known his entire life. That he’s worth nothing. He doesn’t know how to (properly) and healthily show love and emotion, so he didn’t receive any back.

Along with the things the other comments mention, there's one more thing I find really sad about this ship. Nagito didn't want Hajime to get too attached to him, because he truly cared about him and didn't want to cause him pain when he was gone (Komaeda knowing about his short life expectancy). Although he did flat out confess once, even though Hajime was too up his own ass to even notice, this forced him to be more subtle about his feelings. He trusted his luck (if you know about the good-luck-bad-luck cycle he has) that Hajime wouldn't cling onto him and suffer. Also, his disease, Frontal Lobal dementia, is when the frontal region of the brain shrinks. Symptoms and effects of this can be anti-social behaviour, swearing, social anxiety, low-serotonin (can cause depression, anxiety, insomnia) etc. I'm not a doctor, so I may be wrong about a few of these, so feel free to correct me. This disease is incurable and the life expectancy since discovery is usually from 2-12 years. And in the Monokuma Archive, Nagito tells us that the thing he wanted was love. I find this really sad because he knew even his parents didn't love him :(

Hi, just wanna say, thank you Things have been hard for me recently especially regarding the danganronpa community mostly revolving around Nagito. I love Nagito and he is one of my favourite characters but it hurts how everytime I try to describe him or explain him or even go as far as to joke about the irony of his hate and what he has actually done on different online platforms, mostly reddit, I get misunderstood and sometimes bashed or argued with for the wrong reasons. People keep thinking I'm trying to defend the guy when in reality I'm really just trying to explain his character without getting called a random obsessed fan that thinks he "did nothing wrong." This has really taken a toll on my mental state and it makes me mad that it's due to our fellow Nagito fans that are toxic that caused this. I've decided to take a break from reddit and probably just half of the fandom for a while. I'm really glad there are people like you that actually understands the characters enough to even make amazing stories like these and keep my love for my favourite characters alive. As a Nagito kinnie, I hated Hajime with a passion in the game He was such an asshole to Komaeda, I really hated that they made him hate Nagito If I'm being honest, I never liked Hajime to begin with, I just got iffy vibes from him Then he started hating on Nagito so that set me over the edge But now, after like 6 months of contemplation I actually kind of like Hajime now
You can't REALLY blame Hajime for acting like he did around Nagito. He trusted him for basically all chapter 1 and felt really betrayed when Nagito showed his true colors, then started to avoid him and nagito really didn't help with it (acting creepy and actively scaring his classmates for his ideal? Yeah no). You know Hajime doesn't hate him, and doesn't want the others to harm Nagito (remember when he was the only one to protest what soda and nekomaru did?). He wants to understand him, but nagito just doesn't know how to express his feelings towards hajime (besides the obvious scene from chapter 3). It's not until the final act of the game where hajime is legitimately scared of nagito and of course you would want to stay away from someone who creeps you out. I'm not saying you can excuse all of hajime's actions. Leaving someone to starve? not what I would wish to even my worst enemy. Abandoning a sick person? Not what I would to a classmate. I'm just saying you can't expect him to be okay with the way nagito acted the whole game
