One only has watch this to remember how awesome 70s drum corps came to be! THE best decade to march and bond with friends all over imo. I was with the Centurions of Enfield CT '74-77.
SAC should have won that night they were flawless in drums, horns and drill. The entire corps was amazing and marched as a single unit. I attended with my friend John Bryant of the Minisink Warriors. We both said SAC all the way. You cannot do better than superb.
A superb Mickey Petrone drill desgign, a brilliant performance, horns, drums and color guard by Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights. A fantastic show that should have given them 1st. place and the 1970 World Open championship.
Thank you, for posting this clip. There is another recording identical to this this one is a lot sharper and clearer, much improved over the other recording. Today is July 9th 2023 watching this particular quit for the first time, excellent recording. I am a former member of the Floyd Bennett golden eagles from Brooklyn New York, 1960 and 1961, I played snare drum. And my brother, played tenor drum, may he rest in peace. I am also a former member of the Long Island sunrises, 1964 through 1968.
You’re welcome! It’s very important to me that this media, and all others like it, gets digitized ASAP before it gets lost to time. We must know where we came from so we know where we are going.
I agree with you 100%. They should bring it back immediately too many people have lost respect, for our nation and our flag. Today is December 5th 2023. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all former drum and bugle Corps members.
Thank the DCI acolytes from the Midwest for that one. At the time, they had a particular hard-on for the controlling officials from the VFW & the American Legion. It was the '70's & they were p.o.ed abt how they exercised their authority for what you could & couldn't do. Those were the days when it seemed like the Midwest-ers were always getting in trouble w/getting penalized for flag violations in the color pre (someone crossing in front if the American flag). They weren't the only ones but they sure made it sound like they were. I believe what they were really cheesed off abt was when the Legion or VFW woukd set their strict rules for hair cut short enough that it didn't cover the top of the collar. The DCI advocates channeled their anger into maintaining.how bad it was that the organizations abused & exploited" those poor kids for the money they made off them. Anyone else looked into what DCI makes off them now?
I don't remember, so I can tell you the snare line five snare drum outstanding, their execution was perfect, and they sound fantastic, unlike the cardboard boxes the marching bands used today. Yes I said marching bands, we no longer have real drum and bugle Corps, may they all rest in peace.
should have won hands down, but Trueman Craw Crawford had his own opinion..3 points doe in GE horns to a corp. who played nothing and the drum line was sub par for a championship corp,,
Yes, I am aware of that. He has posted numerous recordings, I have already put many of them in the cloud, so to speak, and I listed to them frequently, in fact daily.

I was in the Golden Crusaders. We chewed a lot of the same dirt lol.

I marched with BSGK from 1970-1972 as a 2nd Baritone. The Dream Contest was an exciting day for us.
Sac's exit of "Free Again" used to make our bus drivers cry.
That's actually a compmiment! 😁
Jim and Marty Hurley on snare. Tony Sepe (rudimental bass)
Marched with the Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights Drum and Bugle Corps for eight years.
Part of this sounds like a Christmas song and I can't figure out which one anyone else knows?
The color pre should never have left drum corps.

@@americanspirit8932 Forced patriotism isn't patriotic.
Whatever happened to timp toms?
Say what you will, but could these kids march. Call it old school if you will, but you could cherry pick a few details and add them to today’s Shows.
Who won drums that night?

High drums should have gone to BSGK, both execution and GE, hands down.p
@@tommcconville677Was that Blue Rock's yr or was that '71?
I agree w/you abt Sac; it's just that in '70 w/BR it was like comparing apples & oranges.

Gary Dickleman has all the BS vids posted under his account.
