The problem with Freestyle: it's technical, difficult, hard on your body and looks way less spectacular than Big Air. For most people, Big Air is just so much more accessible.
interesting how you say these are problems, i for one always looked upon every single one of the things you listed as benefits😂. the fact that it is technical and difficult means that the payoff you get after you land a trick after a year of trying it is incredible. I won't lie backedges do hurt but for the 4 years i've been riding freestyle a solid backedge is the worst i've gotten where i just got up and kept riding (i do bj3's and slims) . it looks worse to outsiders but to people who know their freestyle a solid back to wrapped tail is way more impressive and visualy apealing than (almost) any (single) kiteloop. And you say big air is more accesible ? hear you are just plain wrong, there are only a couple of spots in the world where you get consistant 25knt+ for big air (whereas a solid 16knt can be found almost anuwhere in the world, just came from my home spot in Poland where i was riding some freestyle and throught the month i was there we had only 4 25knt+ days, and when it comes to gear i was debatig buying the new rebel 10m and my vegas 13 is quite smashed and i found for litteraly less than half the price of the rebel i found a 2019 11 and 13 vegas with the 2020 clickbar😂 and you could buy yourself a nice coat with the money left over. It is only more accesible when it comes to the gear people already have bought. Besides, because of the consequences of big air most people that kite never muster the courage to pull that first kiteloop while raleys are a lot more accecible to the everyday kiter. sry for the whole essay but this has been cooking for the past couple of years😊 cheers
I agree with what you are saying in that technical, difficult, hard on your body and looks way less spectacular. It is not less accessible though. Not many places in the world have 20+ knots on a daily basis for big air. Freestyle can be done at 12-18 knots.
I totally agree that freestyle is the harder discipline in kitesurfing and I love that you are showing how fast you are picking up the big air tricks but I do have one pointer. You are doing your ticks in 25 knots which might be harder because there is less height but when the wind starts gusting +35 is when the psychological aspect starts to enter the game. I would like to see you try the kite loop board off in tarifa or capetown for example.
Yes you are right, the conditions can change it all... But this also depends a lot to the kites. With my nexus I don't really care about wind speed. It always loops so safe... With the xr I was more aware of my hights and the wind strenght...
Big air is immediate reward for the effort, while freestyle being a lot more technical requires solid fundamentals before giving some reward. The majority of the riders prefers the adrenaline of a giant boost (nowadays the kites are so good you don't even have to be that good to jump 10+m) instead of landing a super difficult trick with the risk of knee injury (riding with boots is kinda punishing). Also watching pros boosting 20+ m doing crazy loops is kinda dope tbh
Great video Ben! And once again you proved what a great technique you have. It's a shame that freestyle gets so little attention... I hope you will still keep your great freestyle videos and just have a few big air ones. You're one of the very few freestylers around and I love to see the passion and effort you put in learning a new trick.
Ben, you are in the unique position that .001% of kiters are able to do, which is combine Freestyle with Big Air, and when you do, all eyes will be on Freestyle. I still think Jessie Richman's Freestyle Big Air as the ultimate experience.
Dont bet bummed about your riding style! Here where im at big air is popular cause big kicker waves. Personally your the only person i watch ride freestlye! Keep the stoke real!
Servus Ben.
Note: The difficult thing for people is usually that they jump to e.g. the left and thus do board offs with the right hand, but left hand is needed for KL BO. Can take some time to get the muscle memory to the other arm as well. For sure took me around 100 attempts to land this trick
Backroll - kiteloop lateback would be stick to see you try. Also some tips on how to get there are very welcome. Dont shit to mutch on how easy big air is, its not good for our fragil ego's. You are just very good, thats all :D
Freestyle ist doch nix mehr für uns Opis - Familie - Arbeit - keine Zeit für Verletzungen, und wenn doch, heilen die nicht mehr so schnell wie mit 30 :-)
Hi ben, i really want to learn this trick on foil but i wonder if it's better to learn kiteloop with one hand (like kiteloop grab) or directly kiteloop board off ?
Mike would say : 'Just fucking send it' or 'Loop first ask questions later' 🤣 Saw you in his last video about edging like a pro 👊 But you're right, big air attracts a lot of attention. But it's getting crazier and crazier there, becoming more dangerous. I actually like the combination of both, like you do and Kevin Langeree as well in his video's. What move you learn next doesn't really bother me, I just like watching you playing around. Thanks for all the inspiring videos ♥
I am definitely sure freestyle tricks are harder. I am already doing kiteloop (not board off though). But I am scared of doing unhooked tricks. I think even though freestyle is harder to learn, big air tricks are riskier compared to freestyle.
Bro ill watch whatever u put up, but the normal guys can only get thrill with big air, thats the key. anyway, do a double please jaja so much time to get it done and u can nail it in 3 attempts or less😂
It is really sad that freestyle does not get the respect and the attention that it deserves. In Massachusetts there are over 1000 kiters and probably less than 10 that do freestyle. We have really great kiters but they're all about big air. I'm with you though. Keep freestyle alive, the trick possibilities are endless!!
Dont care about the big air really so much these days. Im just influenced by the fact thay 98% of riders in my local area do it. Im honestly board of watching it, its the same thing over and over again it feels like. Id much rather see an f16, or a seatbelt back2blind
so..... bigair is easier than freestyle/wakestyle.... but nobody care! i myself try to learn freestyle moves every session, but i'm only a biginer in a nowind cost of brasil
What trick should I try next: Kiteloop Lateback Boardoff or a doubble kiteloop.
You decide below 👇
Add late back to klbo
kite loop late board off
Boogie boardoff eher einfacher denke ich
Double mate……
Lateback Boardoff

I would love to see you do this series of advancing through all the big air tricks and see how fast you progress!
Next trick please: Dark slide into front-roll! This one is epic!

Thank you brotha, never saw it that way...
unhook massive loops had hipped before last KOTA...
Amazing well done, I like to test your courage on a double kiteloop. See you soon I makes me wanna give it a try
looks like it gonna be as easy as the board off... just a matter of hight
Nice ben !!! Looks so easy !!! Kill the big air definitly with the double kiteloop ! And then come back to what s you like !! Freestyle !! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dont bet bummed about your riding style! Here where im at big air is popular cause big kicker waves. Personally your the only person i watch ride freestlye! Keep the stoke real!
why do you not use the XR for big air tricks?
Nexus is easy to loop and to learn tricks nexus is going to be much easier
I also think that you can progress faster on the Nexus... It pulls less and loops safer...
Love the new concept!
Aaron Hadlow, Kevin Langeree, Jessy Richman and Marc Jacobs are all King of the air and all have solid freestyle comp backgrounds
Yeah brother! Finally more hoooooooked! I am hooked!
It depends bigair can be super hard for example in stronger winds etc
But bro… have you ever tried to freestyle in stronger wind 🤔
@@BenBeholzVlogs I get your point. But then isn't it equally hard? Freestyle and big air?
Richtig gut Ben! 😊
Freestyle is the best ❤
@Ben I'd love to know what sort of height you are at doing this trick 👍
You might have to get a WOO/SURFR now that you're rocking the big air moves 😂
I didn't had anything to check my hights. If I would need to guess it was about 6m...
@@BenBeholzVlogs thank you 👍

Well done bro 💪💪 Good to see you pushing big air too 😊
thank you bro ☺️✌️
Def double loop, its a bit cheesy obviously as everyone is doing them now, but I think you really proof your point if you're able to nail them.

Hi ben, i really want to learn this trick on foil but i wonder if it's better to learn kiteloop with one hand (like kiteloop grab) or directly kiteloop board off ?
I think a kiteloop grab really makes sense. Or first only on handed kiteloops...
nice, it looks so easy when you do it hh, let's try the double kite loop !!!! :)
thank you ben :)
so fun to watch
Double kite loop 👍
💪🏻 steil gehts

I agree 💯
Welches Trapez trägst du?
at the moment I prefer the vapor by Prolimit
I think your glasses are the hardest discipline
hahahaha
So nice Ben , you have done It , you achieve It in few attemps so thanks for share, and thanks for try It 💪💪😂
I will go for a kiteloop board off but from the fin
enjoy the flight brotha :)
bitte mehr big air !!!!
Hell ya man 🙌
do double kite-loop. I never so that someone did that with Core kites.
Double kiteloop
Bro ill watch whatever u put up, but the normal guys can only get thrill with big air, thats the key. anyway, do a double please jaja so much time to get it done and u can nail it in 3 attempts or less😂
I vote Double kiteloop

Double kiteloop
